Carlos Bakery in Hoboken. you have to take a very good copy on photo paper......i had it done...

Unfortunately, my friend called Carlo's yesterday (we were running double duty on the phones; he called one place while I called another) and he was told they wouldn't do that. Same thing with the A&P: "we can put it on the cake for you, but we don't just make a copy, sorry." Maybe we're phrasing it incorrectly?

Thank you for the suggestion, though. I'm glad you had better luck than I did, at least. Take care :)

Bakery that transfers pictures to edible paper?

I'm wondering if anybody knows of any bakery in the area that is willing to transfer a graphic to edible paper. I'm making a Pip Boy 3000 (from Fallout 3) cake for my fiance's birthday and a friend of mine made a graphic that I'd like to go on the screen, however I've had absolutely no luck in finding a bakery willing to let me pay them to just make a couple of printouts of it on edible paper. I've tried various grocery store bakeries (the A&P, Whole Foods in the city, etc), Carlo's in Hoboken, etc and nobody will do it since I'm not having them make the cake, as well.

Unfortunately, it's pretty much last minute at this point since cake construction begins tomorrow and his get together is on Sunday (I've been trying all week to find someone both in this area and in the area in which his parents live, which is where his get together is being held), so I am willing to pay extra since it'll be a rush job and my availability between today and tomorrow is also extremely limited. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions anyone can provide.

That's awesome, I had no idea Criminal Intent was filmed in Bayonne. I learn something new every day thanks to you guys :)

(Criminal Intent is my favorite of the Law and Orders, and Vincent D'Onofrio is a beautiful man).

Yep, in the 3 years I lived on Palisade Ave, my car got vandalized THREE times on that very block of Ogden (between Griffith and Bower). I think it's a targeted area, cuz it's off the main road, and the cops don't sit out there and monitor it like they used to.

That's exactly what one of the gentlemen that spoke with me said. He told me it's because they never patrol up there at night and tons of people walk by just checking to see if anybody left a door unlocked. I almost wish he did; the stereo's not that big a deal, but having to get the window replaced and not having his car for the weekend is a real pain.

I just wanted to update this to let you know that my boyfriend's car was broken into sometime between 8pm last night and 6am this morning. They shattered the entire driver's side window and obliterated the center console to retrieve the stereo. It was parked on Ogden across the street from the basketball courts between Griffith and Bowers (near the first fire hydrant you find when turning onto the street from Griffith). Apparently, a lot of people saw the damage this morning (and thus gave the time frame; my boyfriend didn't notice until he went to the car around 7:30 this evening), but they didn't see or hear anything at the time it occurred. They came and talked to us while I attempted to sweep up the broken glass left all over the seat and the sidewalk.

I'm just glad nobody was hurt; well, except maybe the bastard who did it...I hope whatever wounds he got from busting the window give him a nasty case of gangrene.

I saw Weird Al in Westbury on Thursday night and had an absolute blast. It's nice to not have to travel for at least 9 hours on the road just to see a live show (which I used to have to do before I moved to JC).

It's awesome that you got to see the Bon Jovi show. I wish I could've gone, but ah well. Glad to hear someone here saw them and enjoyed themselves :).

While I'm certainly no expert with having only lived on Ogden for a year, I can say that overall I find it to be a pretty decent place to live. The only times I've felt uncomfortable have been walking up the cliff from the 2nd street light rail at night alone because that area really isn't lighted very well (I make a point to not do it, but there have been occasions that have required me to do so). I'm often coming down from the basketball courts later in the evening and never had an issue. My advice would be for you to try walking that block in the evenings and see how comfortable you are. If it helps, I moved here from an extremely small "blink and you'll miss it" town in the Midwest and I'm comfortable enough in this area.

I have to say, parking (especially between Griffith and Franklin) is a nightmare. It is really difficult to get spots here on the correct side of the street during the weeknights (that includes if you were to go down a block in either direction); not to mention the sheer number of times my boyfriend's car has been hit and the person has taken off without even an apology note.

The cabs are something I'm at a loss regarding. I was told it's $8, but have witnessed people getting dropped off on my street and they're only giving the driver $5. I've never used a cab to get to Hoboken, just from there; I just walk to the 2nd street light rail and take that to the Hoboken PATH which works out rather well, IMHO.

I hope I've been at least some help to you. Again, I'm definitely not an expert on the area, but I hope I've aided you at least a little bit. Welcome to the neighborhood :)

That is awesome. I envy you ;)

He was at the Best Buy next to my work building shortly before Christmas, but my coworkers didn't tell me until afterwards. I wouldn't ever actually talk to the guy, but I would like to see him in person just once. He is a beautiful, beautiful man.

My boyfriend told me that he took a cab from the path in Hoboken up to our place in the heights and he paid the driver $7 (which is what we're always told is the fare up here). This time, however, the driver demanded another dollar because "fare prices are going up soon so you're going to need to get used to it." My boyfriend responded with "but they haven't gone up yet, have they? Why is it $8 now?" and the driver yelled "just give me $8! Fares will be going up soon! You might as well get used to it" My boyfriend just gave him the dollar to get out of there. It's not a big deal if the fares go up, but I'd like to know why that particular driver felt it was ok to tell him that since they're going up soon, he "might as well get used to it."

I really wish he would've gotten the car number and company name...
