I need a contractor
#1

I had custom closets installed last year and had the doorway cut out the width of the actual closet. I had a contractor cutout the doorway and install some doors but they did a horrible job, the job looks unfinished. I want somebody that can drywall the surrounding around and install new closet doors. Since the door on the closet was smaller when they removed it there was a space in the floor without hardwood (a very small part) and I need that part patched up. Can anybody recommend a contractor to do this?

Hi everybody...I need to start my spring cleaning and need to get rid of a lot of big items. Can I just leave them out on Monday or do I need to call the sanitation dept. for a special pickup?

Any bakeries nearby (or who would deliver) that can make a wedding cake. Preferably at a reasonable price.

I'm attending a wedding and need to get my make up done. Any ideas where I can have it done? I know you can go to the Macys/Sephora counter but I want a well done job. I don't wear make up at all so I have no idea where to start. Thank you!

Property Taxes

So here's the background: I bought a condo in Feb. 2007 that was gut renovated and converted from a 3 family house to 3 individual units. When I bought the condo, the condo had not been "split" and was still classified as a house for property tax purposes. As part of buying my condo, I got one-year tax free (paid by seller). Well my mortgage company started charging me for the taxes because they were being billed by the city. The seller didn't like this as the plan was that she would pay and that was that. We worked it out and decided that she would just reimburse for the expense. Well 1/2 through the whole process the city finally splits the house into units. So now it shows that I've paid taxes on the "mother lot" but not on my unit. The city has asked that my bank ask for a refund of what they've paid and just pay what I owe on my unit (which is less than what I've paid so far). Well, that takes forever to get taken care of and in the mean time I get a letter from the tax department at my bank saying I haven't paid my taxes and so my mortgage will increase next year (as opposed to really decreasing since my taxes are lower based on unit as opposed to the whole building). I called them to figure out what's going and now they tell me that the state will get back to them on 12/24 so I plan on calling them on 12/26 to see what is the conclusion. I can handle the increase but this is becoming too much of a hassle. I just want to sell and go back to the easy life of renting.

Does this happen often and what is the likely that it would really work out where they get refunded for what they've paid on the mother lot, pay what I owe on my unit and not have my mortgage increase for next year.

Well now that everything is done. I mean we can't get the building back. I would prefer that a building goes up as opposed to it staying vacant like that. It seems that since I've move here (1yr), there have been more homeless people and aside from three new restaurants Newark Ave seems to get worse and worse. Leaving this lot empty might just put it over the edge.

I thought that's what I heard last night. I was in my apt and heard three gun shots. Does anybody know what happened?

I recently moved here (Feb. 07) from Forest Hills in Queens, NYC (nice neighborhood) thinking that this neighborhood would be a good neighborhood to invest in (I bought a condo). Now I'm not so sure
