Does anyone else hear the guy who's been screaming for like over an hour near 3rd or 2nd around Jersey Avenue? He's totally out of control.

About a month ago someone broke in to our apartment building on 2nd near Jersey at about 6:00am, went into the basement, sawed off the chain from two bikes that were LOCKED in the basement, tried to steal a third bike, but someone was coming into the building and they escaped with two bikes. They left behind blood on the chain and the JCPD took a DNA sample. We called them to come back later that night when we noticed the front door had been broken and they claimed the door was broken for a long time and that didn't just happen, which is totally untrue. The theives came back a week later and stole the third bike.

There were so many other things they could have taken from the basement, but they only wanted the bikes. A friend who lives down the block said the same thing happened to her the day before.

I noticed used bikes are often for sale in front of the pet store or the Bank of America on Newark Ave. They have to be stolen.

That's the area I heard them come from too - like Newark/Columbus

YES. I have a friend who lives in there and it is one of the most GORGEOUS apartments I have ever seen. I'm so happy for him to be able to live there!

I live near 2nd & Jersey. My 1990 Honda Accord got broken into 3 times in the past 3 weeks - not one thing was stolen. Just the window broken on the driver side. I think someone broke in to sleep in the car. Gross.

I did hear at one point we were getting a Whole Foods....??

I'd be happy with just Stew Leonards!

Well, like I posted in the thread on the "wolfpack" who attacked the 60 year old man, the machete attacks are indigenous to the M13 gang.....this city needs a gang outreach program.

I pose a question that I've been thinking about for some time...doesn't it seem that these senseless beatings are some gang related initiation or endorsed activity? I heard recently that the machete attacks are specific to the M13 gang. If the "wolfpack" senseless beatings are in fact gang inspired, isn't this issue much deeper than the speculations made in this thread so far?

Re: my first JC parking ticket

Yes, if you have the free time, contest the ticket. But if you're a working fool and it's more cost effective to pay it than spend your time in JC MUNI court, here are some words of advice -

-never park on a corner; even if there's a question about the distance, parking on a corner can be dangerous to your health and/or your car (a car recently rammed into my friend's car while parked on a corner cause one car ran the stop sign onto Jersey Ave and ran into another car, sending the second car into hers);

-totally check out the signs - they can get tricky from streets to aves - that always screws me up;

-don't park anywhere near a fire hydrant, even if it looks like it hasn't been used since 1939;

-don't get so wasted that your hangover is so bad that you can't make it outside by 12:45pm to move your car.

Experienced words from someone who has probably paid enough to JC in one year to buy a brand new MINI TICKET MOBILE.

Re: Heights: Teen gangs suspected in 2 assaults -- at least 10 youths involved

this whole thread really irks me. it seems like there's a disconnect between what is really happening with these kids and what some think about what is really going on. we're talking gangs....they're downright dangerous and increasingly out of control. very few parents or guardians are part of this scenario. it's a group think mentality in which the family exists within these units, and there's a lot more going on here than "kids" just "rumbling".

i think these kids need voices they can hear....ex gang members, those who have been through it, those who can try to steer them in the right direction. i applaud those in our community who are already doing this. i don't propose to fully understand, but i also realize it's a lot more serious than just "letting the kids fight it out."

honestly, when i see a group of kids on the street, i am super careful. i don't trust what can happen.
i see this as an issue that is only growing deeper and think that the opinions i've read in here so far do not fully grasp the seriousness of the issue....
