Re: Jersey City High Schools Failing

Today there?s a gigantic chasm between the intent of public education in the United States, and the political, fiscal, and socioeconomic realities it confronts. Education has become more reactive than proactive in preparing its students for a world that is highly skilled and competitive. Although charter schools are not the panacea for what ails the America?s educational malaise, it does offer, from what I have read, a viable alternative to the learning gap quagmire that public schools cope with annually. The ability and accessibility to inject and initiate challenging innovative education currently appears to have become the bailiwick of charter schools.

I live in the Heights as well and use to bike (Cannondale F300) into the City via the GWB; that's right the GWB. It would take me 2hrs max to get to the WTC. Lots of fun!

I hear you, Hospitality; welcome to the American nightmare. The drug culture has taken over. Personally, I think the president should bring the boys and girls fighting over in Iraq and Afghanistan back to the good old USA and have them protect our homeland against drug dealers and terrorist.

Tonnelle Avenue isn't in the Heights, but is considered in the Western Slope.

Plenty of DNA, I'm sure was collected at the crime scene, especially if the victim deceased as a result of multiple stab wounds.

Best Fried Chicken Joint in JC: Hollywood Fried Chicken

You can believe or think what you want, but I'm a big fan of Hollywood Fried Chicken of late. The restaurant has been a fixture on the corner of Newark and Jersey Ave. for at least a dozen years or better and the new management does a fine job with their product which is additive and salt free. Check them out (Saher, Malik, and Abdul) and you will be pleasantly surprised with the food they prepare and serve.

Just a suggestion, but why doesn't a pro -gay group from this area stage a freedom of expression protest near or in front of Westboro Baptist Church (Red State somewhere)?

Wake up, people!

"It is without a doubt a public nuisance and that kind of defiance will not be tolerated within our jurisdiction," Fire Department Director Armando Roman said. "If they open up again, we will be there to cite them accordingly."

Hmm, I wish the powers-that-be would get fired up about the drug dealin' vermin and homeless folks all around JC the same way they got pissed off at the Young Spa.

My dad worked and retired from the American Can Company, and labored at the St. Paul's plant for twenty five years. That building was and probably still is a toxic nightmare. Screw the view of Manhattan, if the CO2 emissions from the Pulaski Skyway/ Tonelle Ave. traffic doesn't kill you, then the toxicity of the Canco building will certainly do the trick.

"Also, this guys supervisor should be demoted for being a dumb-ass and his fellow firefighters from that station should be ashamed of themselves. Here they are fighting and investigating fires and a person they need to rely on could be as high as a kite."

Just as there are functional alcoholics so to are there functional dope fiends, who "medicate" themselves two or three times per week. Not easy to detect by your everyday layman.

"One would never talk about crime in Brooklyn -- One would talk about crime in say Williamsburg -- which might well now be pretty low -- while crime in an area like say Bed-Stuy might be as bad as our area here in Jersey City called Greenville. "

I guess you've never heard of John Gotti, Henry Hill, Big Paul Castellano, and the Gambino Family.
