Possible Stolen Dog

I was in Van Vorst Park today with my son, when I saw three young men trying to sell a small dog. Without getting into too many details, it was obvious that the dog was stolen. I confronted them about this fact and offered money to try and save the dog, but they wanted $200. After we exchanged some "words", I went to get my cell phone to call the police and they drove off.
If this dog sounds like a dog that you know or heard about that been stolen, please PM me for more details about these "gentlemen". If you see these men, please try to get the dog and I will chip in for whatever payment is needed. I had no cash and my year-old son was with me, so I wasn't able to do proper negotiations. The dog was wearing a small red sweater. He/she has somewhat shaggy black hair, is a terrier mix of some sort, and weighs under 12 pounds. I wasn't able to get close enough to check for gender. The dog was agile enough to walk on it's back legs to eat food from one of them. They described the dog as a Yorkie and after I told them it was not a Yorkie they said it was a Shitzu, which is was not.

Thank you for trying to care for this dog. He needs you.
You've done the right thing by calling Animal Control and the JCPD. Unfortunately, it is legal for a dog to be kept in the backyard for his entire life, but it is ILLEGAL for the dog not to be provided with shelter (at least this is the case in New York State). I have an extremely negative opinion regarding JC Animal Control, but I would try again with them as well as the police.

Since I see the HP Ladies every morning when I walk my dogs, I said hello to them one morning. I thought maybe they needed to know where they might be able to find some local resources. Even though I was only a few feet, away the brunette would not make eye contact and the blonde put up the hood to her sweater. So I got the message.
I've been wanting to keep an eye out for them because I began to notice a few mornings where there was a man sitting at one of the chess tables. He would just stare at them while drinking his coffee. He wore a red shirt, so he might be working at Moishe's. The whole situation had a bad vibe.

There are great old photos of Jersey City on the Library of Congress's site (www.loc.gov). I believe you'll be able to find them in various locations in their digital collections.
You can also check out The New York Public Library's digital collections (www.nypl.org). Good luck!
