The Jersey City Arts Council, created to serve as support and advocate for the visual, performing and literary artists and arts institutions of this city, is hosting an Open House on Saturday, March 4, noon-6pm.
The Open House is our introduction to the community, as we share our plans and listen to your input.
Among other plans, the JCAC is partnering with the Office of Cultural Affairs on the 2017 Art & Studio Tour, which will be the weekend of October 13-15. The deadline for all artists and venues will be August 1st. More details available at the Open House.
The JCAC currently has four areas of focus to address the challenges of the arts community in Jersey City:
1. Venues - whether it's rehearsal space, artist studios, exhibition space, theaters, writing rooms, foundries, etc.
2. Funding - the JCAC will be able to raise funds not available to the City of Jersey City or to smaller grassroots arts organizations, and we will be distributing the money to arts institutions, art programs and artists.
3. Promotion - we will be working to help publicize the arts to the people of Jersey City and the wider community beyond the city.
4. Policy- we'll be fighting for a dedicated public revenue source for the arts, for affordable artist housing, for venues in new developments, for increases in arts education, and more.
There's a lot more to talk about - please join us on Saturday March 4, noon to 6pm, at 331 Newark Avenue (between 4th and Merseles)
