NYC lawyer does not equal NJ historic preservation expert.
Anyway, there are over a million examples of how an historic building can be altered rendering it historically butchered. And once that happens. The value of your house goes down, your neighbors, and the District that was fought for to preserve.

Also, NYC historic preservation is WAY MORE stringent. So, relax.
