Reviving an old thread...any new info/updates?

Hi Everyone,

What sort of information can you provide on the planned developments for the Astor Place/Monticello area? Anyone live there that can give insight on what it's like to live in the neighborhood? Any tidbits appreciated.

As a monthly parking spot renter, I can tell you it's slim pickings around here. Find one and hold onto it tight! Oh, and be prepared to pay $250+/mo.

I am in a decent apartment on Jersey Ave in DTJC and just recently started poking around for a new apartment.

Rental prices in DT are rivaling Brooklyn, it's out of control. $2000+ for a studio?!? Get over yourself, JC.

There seems to be tons of vacancy in these new "luxury" buildings too. Is the bottom going to drop out and the bubble burst, or is JC destined to have Brooklyn prices?

I was looking for a bike group out of JC, or even Hoboken, this past winter. I came up with nothing. I ended up joining the NYCC. It's affordable and there are plenty of options - I'm a B/B+ weekend warrior. It is a drag to haul my bike on the PATH Saturday and Sunday mornings, you'd be amazed how crowded those early morning trains can be! I have to leave my apt in downtown JC 1.5-2hrs before the ride is supposed to start. (Rides usually meet/start in Riverside Park.) I might start meeting them on the NJ side of the GWB, but River Rd. is treacherous south of the bridge, I'm not a huge fan of riding that stretch.

The more I've thought about a group in JC, the more I realize that it would be virtually impossible to ride anywhere around us. You really have to jump west of Newark, lord knows I don't want to ride those roads, north into Bergen county, or way south. We're just not located conveniently to bike routes.

Hoping some of you might know of some cycling clubs based in or around JC. I've been looking at various bike shop websites, but I'm not finding much in the area. Any recommendations are appreciated!

Side note: I'm sure there are plenty in NYC, but I don't want to deal with transporting a bike on the PATH.

I am curious about your thoughts on the safety of running in DTJC early in the morning (5AM when it's still dark)?

Routes would likely take me around the DT area, to the waterfront, and also over the pedestrian bridge into Liberty State Park. I do these routes all the time in daylight, but never so early that it's still dark outside.

Thoughts? Anyone else out there at that ungodly hour?
