I guess this is the perfect opportunity to try out Citi Bike. I hope I don't die or get injured on the way there. I noticed a ton of car traffic today and wondered if it was because of the light rail down.

Where can I find these "private buses" that will honor my monthly light rail pass?

Quote:
New Jersey Transit and private buses will cross honor light rail tickets and passes, and PATH is cross-honoring light rail tickets and passes between Exchange Place in Jersey City and Hoboken stations, NJ Transit officials said.

No worries! It was that gravel path that veers or curves away from the paved path that runs along Audrey Zapp. It seems like you are running off into a wooded area if you are coming from the light rail but it still runs parallel to Audrey Zapp and the marina. I hope that makes sense.

Can you specify where in the park you were? From the video it looks like it could be along the main entrance on Audrey Zapp Dr. A few years back I started this thread. At that time we had see them in a field across from the boat launch. Since then the park has built gazebos on that land

Yes, that is where I was when I saw them come out of the fenced off field.

Make JC's public transportation (although I know it runs outside of JC) run like the NYC subway system instead of a commuter rail, like Amtrak/NJ Transit/Metro North.

I don't see any reason the 33rd Street to JSQ PATH should sit and smell Hoboken for several minutes on the weekends. Plenty of people take that train on off-peak hours so why not make it run its current on-peak hours all the time? Same with the light rail; it should run like it does during rush hour and not stop to just two trains per hour after 8. If you work in the city and go out for a drink or workout after work, you could get stuck waiting 30 minutes for the light rail. Also, heat lamps on the light rail platforms would be nice.

I agree about opening up the waterfront too. I'd start biking from Greenville to the PATH then; it would be safer than taking the roads. I think this commuter-train-like schedule that we currently have hurts JC because not everyone works a 9-5 and goes straight home to Bayonne or wherever after work.

I just encountered three wild dogs on my run in LSP this afternoon. They were extremely close to the running path. Myself and several other runners/walkers went by them. The dogs didn't act afraid so I thought someone was letting their dogs roam without a leash. Yet they came out of the wooded area so I thought maybe a coy wolf?

I stopped a guy from the Liberty Humane Society who was out walking a pit bull puppy, and he told me they were wild dogs. This can't be safe...

Here's a video I took: https://vid.me/2beJ

Re: Faster Light Rail Service?

Hi! I was waiting about 9:10 - 9:15. Also, yes, during rush hour I hate to see the Bayonne Flyer coming...it seems to run more regularly than the 8th Street one too. I won't be able to make the Thursday night meeting, although I'd really like to.

Thanks for letting me know about the app and timetables!

Faster Light Rail Service?

It took me an hour and 15 minutes to get home tonight on the path and light rail. It normally takes me about 35 minutes during rush hour. The PATH was fine, but I waited 23 minutes for an light rail.

I noticed the wait was about 20 minutes in between trains for all directions. Why don't they add another train for each line to cut everyone's wait time down to 10 minutes? Has there been any push to increase service on the light rail? I did a search on this forum and on google but couldn't find anything.

During rush hour, the light rail is fine, but I wish they would up the service after rush hour and on weekends. I'm new to using the light rail so this is frustrating, especially after moving from Brooklyn

Timing of this is unfortunate, but it can happen near every light rail and PATH station. If you are travelling late night, I'd recommend you go to Grove and get a cab.

Oh man, do you all consider 10-10:30 p.m. too late to use the light rail? Are people still on it at that time? I'm OK with taking a cab from a Path Station but several times a week adds up.

Thank you all for your comments! My concern has eased a bit. But yes, pepper spray and beware of your surroundings; also, we were thinking about putting flood lights around the entrances and getting a dog. I hope this works out, and we will be joining the Bayside NA!

Consider the source, but there are some pretty passionate comments about the state of Ocean Ave. and surrounding areas at NJ.com today.

Just read the comments, and it very concerning, especially the comment about so many complaints being filed and no one does anything about it.

We are excited about potentially moving to the area because we think JC has just as much to offer as BK or Queens, and more affordable. Our real estate agent told us to stay away from Ocean Ave. Any other sections of Greenville to avoid?
Thanks all for the links!

Thanks. $40 a month is expensive, though. Seems like this data should be free to the public.

Brooklyn Rent to Greenville JC Home; Nervous about recent crime

My boyfriend and I are very close to closing on a home near the Richard Street LR stop. We are excited about this move, but very concerned about the recent shootings and robberies.

I will take the LR to and from the city. How is the foot traffic from RS LR around 10 pm on weeknight? I'll usually be coming home around that time. My boyfriend has a car, and sometimes he comes home late--after midnight--after working.

Are any of you Greenville residents nervous about the spike in crime? Should we back out of buying this house and continue renting solely because of the crime? Buying is more economical for us.

We were aware of the crime in this area while shopping for a home in Greenville/bergen-Laf, but now it seems to be increasing with these stray bullet shootings. We've lived in Bushwick and Bed Stuy before so we are familiar with poorer areas, but didn't have a problem with crime besides a few roommates getting mugged (not at gun point though).

Any advice would be appreciated! So glad I found this forum!
