Agreed. This would be an interesting quiz topic for city cops/officials. What will happen in the spring when the flowers bloom? What if one day I walk in the garden & all of the flowers are gone? (but the plants still remain rooted only so that the flower thief can steal the flowers again) It will be sad.
From now, I'll always have my cell with me & I'll definitely ask the flower thieves to stop picking flowers or smile for my phone camera/video.

Hello,
I saw a flower thief today in Van Vorst Park next to the front of the dog run today (November 11th 2014) between 9.45 am & 9.55 am. Description: Old white man wearing a cap & a large cloth/plastic bag. Not sure about exact height but he was between 5'6 & 5'8. Will recognize this person again if I see him. At first I thought he was a new park volunteer, then I thought he was a homeless man from the cookies & crepe area or the painter who paints in VVP sometimes. If either of them are reading this right now & aren't the flower thief, please accept my apologies for comparing the thieve's physical description to yours. I don't mean to insult or defame you. I was in the area next to the gazebo where the park divides into the dog run & the restricted lawn area when I saw him lingering next to the flowers, smelling them & trying to reach out for specific ones. At first I thought he could be a park volunteer but then we saw & stared at each other non stop for a good 5 mins till he left the park. I didn't have a clear realization or confirmation that he was a flower thief but I don't know why or what felt extremely weird/fishy to me. Went in the dog run to play w my dog. Heard some sounds from the beautiful area behind the dog run. Saw a lot of the plants & flowers are moving??? Then the thief came out of that area & left VVP with a bag that was POURING of flowers (roses & others) & plant stems/branches. Found a park volunteer & let him know about this. I don't know what else I should do other post it on jclist or directly confront the person (I feel hesitant to the latter because I usually don't like confrontations plus I feel I can't make my point when I'm trying to talk to the person) Maybe I should have just said something short like flower picking is banned in the park instead of staring for 5 mins -_- Thank you for reading. G

Hello Parkman,
Thank you very much for this detailed information. Appreciate it. Decided against planting next to the tree. On the hunt for good affordable planters and maybe a deep pot too. Thank you for the free bulbs. Gutloo

I was looking into this yesterday. Found an atlas in the JC public library with a map. But found a better version on google maps. I just googled downtown jersey city in google maps & all the neighborhoods came up. Printed it at postnet.

Hello Parkman,
Hope you're doing well. I got 50 bulbs on Sunday & I wanted to know if I can get any help or advice on planting them. I saw the info & video in the BIGDIG email & googled about daffodils but given the plethora of info & options, I'm confused about where I should plant the bulbs. I wanted to plant them next a tree outside the apartment but I'm unsure if that's a good idea. Will continuous dog pee kill the bulbs & flowers? How can I determine if the soil will be a good match for the daffodil bulbs? I'm afraid I'm running out of time & so I was just thinking of buying pots for the bulbs but then again I'm unsure about the pot dimensions, material, soil type, fertilizer, number of bulbs in each pot. But then I'm concerned that if I pot them then they won't "bloom for years" & maybe there's a better chance of them blooming if I plant them in the ground? I'm sorry if my questions sound really stupid. I just want to do this right. Can't wait to plant the bulbs & see them bloom into flowers!
