I've yet to notice this. The liquor store on the corner of 8th and Jersey, I can smell from outside. Not this though.

Thanks to everyone who responded!
I should mention that specifically, I tend to lean towards punk rock. Even more specifically, I'm hoping to start a new band in the next few months and would like some local places to play every so often/potentially encourage friends' bands from out of the area to stop here. (With that, I'm also hoping to find some places near PATH stations, so that I could hopefully convince crowds to come out from New York City as well - I heard Boca Grande will have live music? I haven't been there yet but want to check it out, can anyone confirm? Thanks again!

Music venues in Jersey City?

Is there anywhere in Jersey City that has live music on a regular basis? I know of Lucky 7 and the Lamp Post (and technically the WFMU space), but I'm curious if there's anywhere else.

Not sure if anyone came to this because they saw it on here, but if you did, thank you very much! Hopefully we'll have more readings and music at Iris down the line.

I think this campaign is a pretty big waste.
As a "young" person who recently moved to Jersey City, it was because I was spending more time here because there are attractions here (the many parks, restaurants, shops, WFMU, volunteer groups like JC Ties, other cultural events, etc). Not because I saw an ad that said "Why not move here?" With that, if you really want to build up your city like this campaign is supposed to, I think the money would be much better spent going back into the city (anything from improving our public transportation, to helping local businesses). I love it here, and think there's a lot of great potential, but one thing I've noticed/have discussed with others is that while there's been an influx of great places to eat and drink, there's not a lot "to do." For example, I'd love it if we put the money into a music/performance venue (a mid-sized one - who knows what will happen with the Loewe's, and there's already a few tiny spots, but that's something that's noticeably missing). Or possibly try to bring in a sports team (maybe not a major, but I think a minor league team would be popular). Or just have more events, beyond just what we see in the summer. Otherwise, this just sort of feels like a bait and switch. Spending a ton of money to try and convince people to move here from Brooklyn/outer boroughs of NYC (read as: "a lot of hipsters who have their parents pay their rent anyway") because it's "cheaper," with the dreams of "We can be bigger than NEWARK!" When meanwhile there's talks of bringing in a xanadu style casino, that's going to push taxes/rents up (and honestly, since I've moved here, we're not paying THAT much less than we would be if we were in New York City.) I guess my point is I'd like to see Jersey City stop being promoted as "the potential sixth borough." We're much better than that.

Book release party for "Tour Sucks" - a collection of hilarious (and often terrifying) stories about going on tour with bands from the world of punk rock.
Featuring readings by: Joe Evans III (local writer, Tour Sucks, Razorcake magazine) Mike Faloon (Tour Sucks, Go Metric Magazine) Michael T. Fournier (the 33 1/3 series, new novel Swing State) Larry Livermore (Spy Rock Memories, and reading from/answering questions about his new memoir about running Lookout Records) Plus a solo music set by Zach Rapport (from the band Now People). This is a FREE event. Also, if anyone can help explain to me how to post to the events calendar (I found how to put in info, but can't seem to get it to post), I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
