Re: How the jobless rate in poor Jersey City areas helped the Kushners

The target employment area can be more granular - say move from City level to Zip code level. That will close a big loophole but will certainly slow down EB5 money flows.

Thanks for sharing. Is the independent water quality report out too? I remember the mayor ordered a water quality report independent of Suez last year.

I also recommend YuFixIt. I've done a battery replacement there and it worked great. They have a location near Grove Street PATH. http://www.yufixit.com/contact/

Anyone has any news about the water test? Quote:

In response to Flint crisis, Jersey City to hire third party to test water supply

By Terrence T. McDonald | The Jersey Journal
February 02, 2016 at 2:05 PM

JERSEY CITY — City officials will hire a third-party consultant to test the city's drinking water, a step they call "an extra level of security" for residents in the wake of the Flint water contamination scandal.

The independent testing is intended to corroborate tests currently performed by Suez Jersey City, which runs the city's water and sewer systems. The testing will cost $50,000 and include a search for all contaminants listed on the federal and state drinking water standards lists, city officials said today.

The testing will be more comprehensive than the regular tests performed by Suez, according to the city.

"The situation in Flint is one that no community should have to experience," Mayor Steve Fulop said in a statement. "And while testing is done routinely on the Jersey City water supply residents have reached out asking for comprehensive testing and we thought it was a prudent expense to add an extra level of security for our residents, especially our young children."

Will the new tunnels of the gateway project be used solely for Amtrak?

Would love to see a comparison between that and East Side Access tunnels.

I'm looking at the student profile.

https://k12.niche.com/dr-ronald-e-mcna ... gh-school-jersey-city-nj/

If the niche.com site is right, the racial quota is not strictly enforced... Any insights here from this forum?

I'm not particularly against affirmative action, I just hope it is more based on income than race.

If you fall into the Asian or White category, you may need to have really high academic / test scores relative to the student body as a whole to get in. Even then, that might not be enough.

Thank you MDM that's what I hear too. Both my wife and myself are Asian, 100%, and we don't want to cheat on picking the racial category. It truly sucks though to be Asian on being admitted into top academic schools in JC.

We do NOT want to bring up our kid in a way that focuses on academic performance solely. But it looks like the system is very much against us...

Thank you iGreg. Looks like both private high schools are top notch but religious... We are not particularly religious and would prefer not to attend a religious school. Does it mean that we'll have to move...

Our kid is going to reach school age soon. If there isn't a good option for local high schools then we'll move, like most others do... However we do like JC a lot and would like to explore a bit before we really make the move.

McNair Academic High School - racial quota

Hi all,

I stumble upon the wikipedia page of McNair Academic High and saw:

With the primary goal of diversity through affirmative actionthe school enrollment is based on a quota of 25White25Black25Hispanic, and 25Other (mostly Asian).

However, the source link to JCBOE is broken. I'm wondering if the quota is still there today and if there is any plan to change that.

Most likely these types of regulations come from the state.
Give the state SBA a call and keep us updated. You may be redirected a couple times to find the right person to answer your question.

JC and NYC are heaven for people with relatively little net wealth but high income and growth potential. Of course people are hard working to take advantage of the upward mobility.

To car owners, sell your car, use Zipcar or Uber when you need car service. Otherwise use public transit!

Is anybody actually excited about this? Here's my question - what problem does this hub solve? Why was there a need to build this lavish structure? Taking a step back ... why couldn't the Path terminate at the newly built Fulton Center, a block away?? Would have saved multiple Billions of dollars, and made transferring to the MTA system very easy.

Seriously, why is this hub even being built?

MIkeyTCB - mark my words - there will be families moving in to these condos, they will have young children, and yes, there will be a good percentage that will send their kids to PS16. PS16 is generally considered probably the "best" of the public elementary schools in JC. But it already has capacity issues, as does the entirety of the downtown elementary schools. The City needs to do something quickly to deal with this problem. We need new schools built in downtown. The population boom is happening here.

The condo owners pay a lot of property tax. I hope at least part of it goes to fund PS16.
