Yes, this website is a great idea and shows a lot of initiative (I can imagine the rest of the city council wishing you'd stop making them look bad! :)

However, it's ultimately only as good as the data. Below is something I pasted in from this very site, apparently from the Police Dept. themselves (Dina Reilly) - this refers to the 4 muggings on the night of 10/14, which don't show on the map:

"Good morning.

The following are four robbery incidents that occured over this past weekend.

The first robbery occured on 10/14/05 b/t 8:00 and 8:30 p.m. on the corner of Varick and Bright St.
- 2 victims robbed at gun point.
- Three actors described as follows:
- 1. Black male, about 6'1" wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans
- 2. Black male, wearing a black sweater and blue jeans
- 3. Black male, wearing a black sweater

The second robbery occured on 10/14/05 at 9:45 p.m. on York and Jersey Ave.
- One victim robbed at gun point
- Three actors described as follows: (possbily the same actors from above)
- 1. Black male, 15-17 years of age, wearing a black canvas jacket, blue jeans and
baseball cap
Actor #1 brandished a black in color handgun
- 2. Black male, 15-18 years of age, wearing a gray tee-shirt and blue jeans
- 3. Black male, 15-17 years of age, wearing blue jeans

The third robbery occured on 10/14/05 at 11:30 p.m. on Bright and Varick St.
- One victim robbed at gun point.
- Three actors described as follows: (again, possbily the same actors from above)
- 1. Black male, late teens, 5'6" / 5'7," slim build, wearing a hooded sweatshirt
Actor #1 brandished a black in color handgun
- 2. Black male, late teens, 5'10," medium build, wearing a hooded sweatshirt
- 3. Black male, 6', thin build, wearing a hooded sweatshirt

The fourth robbery occured on 10/14/05 at 11:45 p.m. on Varick and Christopher Columbus Dr.
- One victim robbed, actor stated he had a gun
- One actor described as follows:
- White or Hispanic male, mid 20s, medium build, wearing dark colored pants and a black
hooded sweatshirt

Also, there was a mugging on Bright between Varick and Jersey on Dec. 16 that doesn't show. although maybe that was too recent...

I agree - this is a great start.

One thing though, what category would muggings fall under? Because none of the numerous muggings around Van Vorst/Bright/York over the past few months show up, unless I'm missing something.

And also (I noticed it only because I wanted to check out the javascript code accessing the google maps) - if you hit "view source" on your browser, you can see the exact dates and notes for each event...

But nice job - interesting to note all the numbers to the right (ok, except theft) are going up over the past 3 months... there's your trend.
