Re: PATH WTC to close on weekends for 2 years!

So, the signage says the WTC station closes at 11:59pm Friday.

I had some wishful thinking on a Friday evening hoping it'd be generous and that the last train would be the last one *departing* before 11:59pm, but it was as posted.

So the last train would be the one departing Newark at 11:20pm.

In case anyone was wondering.

Bike theft, Newport Path station

My bike was stolen from the Newport Path station bike area.

It was secured with a medium security (not sure if bolt cutters would've been able to defeat it) u-lock, and the entire bike and cut lock was taken between the hours of 12pm and 10pm.

The area is a frequent target of thieves. Wish something could be done. The cameras around the Hoboken station seem to have much better coverage.

Re: Curbside collection of branches / leaves?

As it turns out, the regular garbage collection was happy to pick it up in regular bags. Would've preferred to recycle/compost them somehow, but was relieved that I was able to do this in a pinch.

Thanks for the input.

Curbside collection of branches / leaves?

Is there any special policy from the public works dept for collection of brush and leaves? Is it okay to leave them in regular trash bags on the usual pickup days?

There's special leaves collection during the winter months, but what do you do the rest of the year?

OK. It sucks that bikes are getting stolen but the police have more important issues to deal with. I'm not trying to tear you down, just stating the obvious.

You may want to look into starting a volunteer neighborhood watch group for small crimes and quality of life issues as to not drain resources away from the police for these sorts of petty crimes.

The city should use its resources as efficiently as it can, yes. But if you subscribe to the broken windows theory, using police resources to cut down on petty crime may also have positive effects on the rate of larger crimes, too.

Try to take pictures of the offenders when you see such activity.

Did you do any research on your neighborhood before you moved in?

Do you realize you are surrounded by homeless shelters and projects?

Burke's is an iconic Jersey City institution. It's not their fault that their clientele is a mixed bag.

These are unusual questions. It's not clear what the connection is between the OP's pre-purchase research and the acceptability of illegal alcohol sales and public urination.

'Institutions' are labeled as such because of the cultural and social contribution they return to a community. Burke's bar just sells beer and liquor after hours. Sorry, it doesn't qualify as an institution.
