Re: Parking enforcement in Newport area

Some roads in Newport are private and some are owned by the city. You can tell because there is only metered parking in the private areas. They want people to pay for a meter or park in their garages. Jersey City maintained areas have normal permit/2 hour parking.

Jersey City parking authority shouldn't be booting on first offense. They don't usually bother unless you have unpaid tickets.

Newport is different. I have the impression they boot immediately. I never see cars with tickets but no boot. Probably because they have limited means of going after unpaid tickets. They do seem very quick at responding since they always have people driving around.

I read once they used to have moving walkways way back in the day. Maybe someone who lived here a long time ago can confirm.

Anyway, seems like they just need a bunch of those rubber mats. I agree, even on rainy days it can be dangerous, especially in flip flops or heels.

Bicycle storage ordinance

Anyone know about how quickly the city ordinances apply to new buildings? I recently moved into a new building that just finished up in July. However, they don't have any bicycle storage.

It looks like new buildings are required to build bicycle storage according to an ordinance from Dec 2012. Would that apply to my building? Clearly they started construction well before Dec 2012, but they finished after that date.

The ordinance can be found here:
http://jerseycitynj.gov/uploadedFiles ... ing/Agenda%20Document.pdf

Page 8 shows how much space is required for new buildings.

I hate having to keep a bike outside in the elements. There is not enough room in my apartment for 2 bicycles either. I'm glad they passed that ordinance, just too bad it wasn't a little sooner!
