If they want to concentrate on other areas they should not call themselves Gia Gelato, it's confusing. Hearing only the name I am thinking of a gelataria-- a place that only sells Gelato, made fresh daily. Not a sandwich shop that happens to have shipped in gelato.

Umm, the name of the restaurant is "Gia Gelato & Cafe". Just goes to show how ill-informed and non-legitimate this message board is. I can't stop laughing!!! :)

It sounds more like some of you have been clanning and alienating (or hoping to alienate) businesses based rumors derived from a discussion board. It's so sad. These hard working people have no idea that others are talking about them on a discussion board and unilaterally decided that they will not be patronized because of a campaign sign. The last I checked, campaign signs for both parties were taped to the door. It's our choice to support a new small business that supports the community or have the storefront replaced with yet another dollar store or become abandoned altogether. Then everyone loses, except the politicians who remain in office while the campaign signs have long been discarded and forgotten. I prefer to be supportive of the little guy regardless of what side they stand on because they generally do not control what goes on in the big house. And, these people seemed to have kept their political ideologies pretty neutral - based on the signs displayed in their window. Yes, it is your right to patronize with whomever and however you wish but let's play fair and not slander innocent people (the real issue of my concern). Horray to those who spoke up or actually visited (gasp) and then posted something good, bad or indifferent!!!

The service at Hard Grove Cafe has definitely declined the past few years. I recently went there on a weekday evening and waited and waited to be served and wound up leaving. I can't imagine what the service is like during weekends. The food use to be awesome too. I will wait another day to try again.

Certain areas of the Heights and Journal Square are both pretty safe and affordable with parking accessibility. Welcome to JC and good luck with your find!

I thought the food was pretty good and plentiful. It reminded me of Portugese (phonetic) from down neck, Newark. They appear to have a good following and weekend crowd.

"Maybe Healy expedited their permits in exchange for the sign :)"

Wow, I'm surprised individuals would write something like this about people you probably never spoke to. I think this is referred to as slander!! I sincerely doubt that Healy had anything to do with their opening considering that I live in the neighborhood and watched them take over a year to open. And, they probably spent tons of their own legitimate money doing so. Further, I doubt any politician would jeopardize their political status during a re-election year over a small time operation. People, isn't this a free country with democratic values? This reminds me of the hatred of the 1960's where one did not associate with someone because of their race, religion, or political views. I thought we moved beyond that mentality. A restaurant's posting sign in the window will not prevent me from patronizing them. Particularly, if none of you have even asked them the rationale. Besides, its' none of my business - literally and figuratively what they do so long as they are doing good for the community which I think they have by bringing more attention to the area and classing the place up. Now, more than ever, I plan to pay them a visit and often!!
