Re: Healy orders Fulop campaign to stop running ads featuring Dwek

This weekend I saw the Healy TV commercial attacking Fulop over the BOE emails. It is an outrageous pile of lies supported by nothing more than innuendo and speculation presented as fact.
Yet team Healy threatens legal action over the presentation of the Dwek surveillance footage. He can't deny he was there. He can't deny that it did happen. I hope that this move is a sign that team Healy is desperate. How long could a cease and desist order take to go through the courts? Could this be enforced before election day?

Watching the debate right now. So far the most memorable exchange was when the mayor was responding to a.question about what causes crime in JC. He sited his campaign for gun control and said " every third sixteen year old in JC is packing a hand gun".
Fulop jumped on that comment to defend JC sixteen year olds and was answered with the first applause of the debate. It reminded me of the brew ha ha over Diane Colman' s comment about everyone in her ward has a criminal record.

According to the MTA 6 train schedule the longest wait for a train is between midnight and 6 AM when trains are supposed to run every 20 minutes. http://mta.info/nyct/service/pdf/t6cur.pdf Of course scheduled service and actual performance can be quite different. For years the overnight PATH trains operated from 33rd St every 30 minutes leaving at 12 and 42 minutes after the hour. They were often late. Now they leave 33rd St every 35 minutes. I always hoped that they would decrease the interval between trains to every 20 minutes. Instead they mad it longer between trains. To their credit, they keep pretty damn close to that 35 minute schedule now.

Lets try to keep things in perspective.
In terms of a national reputation, Jersey City is not even on the radar. We will never make a place for ourselves in the national conscious and forever be eclipsed by the great colossus to the east. New Yorkers, If they think of Jersey City at all, look down at Jersey City just as they do to all of Jersey. No rational thought going on but just an instinctive sense that everything between New York and LA is provincial. Think of that classic New Yorker cartoon. I have worked in Manhattan for many years and most of my co workers have no idea where Jersey City is. In fact, when I tell them I live in Jersey City, their first reaction is that if I am coming from Jersey, I must have a long commute. When I tell them that I can get to midtown in just twenty minutes they are amazed. Some of them tell me that their commute from Brooklyn and Queens takes as much as ninety minutes.

With all the attention on JC list going to the new french bakery opening downtown, this past weekend I decided to check out Honey Bakery located here in uptown which I first read about on JC List.
After all, notable food offerings in downtown JC are quite common but the options uptown are more rare and when one is found, I would like to help encourage them with my patronage. I was very happy with what I found. I tried a lamb samosa and a mushroom and asparagus samosa which were terrific. I also tried there signature item, the chak-chak made with honey and sesame. I brought a whole one home with me and could not stop nibbling on it all night. The service was friendly and helpful. When I asked about a pastry they offered me a sample. It was the cream cheese cookie. I did not try it until I got home but I will definitely be going back for more!

I have had the ribs at Europa and enjoyed them but they are not prepared in the style of traditional american barbeque. They are very simply seasoned and not smoked. I assume this topic was meant to be about barbeque ribs which unfortunately are not well represented in JC. I too am sorry to read that RUB has closed. The food was good and it was only about a block from the PATH which made it a very easy trip from JC. I have tried Dinosaur BBQ in Newark once and was disappointed when told that they were out of ribs that evening. I know good BBQ takes time to prepare but for a place that stakes it reputation on BBQ it shows very poor planning to run out of a signature menu item.

Healy says he'll return money from questionable fundraiser
http://www.politickernj.com/63619/hea ... y-questionable-fundraiser Healy says he'll return money from questionable fundraiser Jersey City Mayor Jerry Healy Healy says he'll return money from questionable fundraiser By Darryl R. Isherwood | February 28th, 2013 - 4:29pm Share on facebook Share on twitter Share on favorites Share on print | More Sharing ServicesMore Jersey City Mayor Jerry Healy, facing accusations that his campaign sought to circumvent campaign finance rules at a fundraiser Wednesday, is returning all of the money raised at the event. Josh Henne, a spokesman for the Healy campaign said though the campaign "always follows both the letter and the spirit of the law... Healy has already instructed his finance team to return any money raised last night." According to the invitation, fundraiser was hosted by MBI Gluck Shaw lobbyists Paul Bontempo and Rudy Garcia and Verizon Vice President of Government Affairs Uli Diaz. It was held at the Cedra Grove home of Jose "Pepi" Garcia, according to the invitation to the Feb. 27 event. The invitation asked supporters for a $1,000 donation and gave the option to donate directly to the Healy campaign or to "For New Jersey Families," an independent expenditure committee. The invitation clearly outlined that donating to the committee meant "no limits - no pay to play." Under campaign finance law, independent expenditure groups may not coordinate with a campaign, state Election Law Enforcement Commission Executive Director Jeff Brindle, who was speaking generally and not about the specific fundraiser. The group was formed January 30 by Rich Torraca, a state Democratic operative. Torraca did not return a call or email for comment. Early Thursday, Healy spokesman Josh Henne said the campaign had no knowledge of the invitation. Later, he issued a statement saying the money would be returned. Healy is known to have attended the fundraiser and the invitation has the required "Paid for by Team Healy 2013" line. Bontempo, who is president and director of MBI Gluck Shaw did not return a call for comment. Diaz also did not return a call for comment.
