Remember that part of Brooklyn's current brand is negative. Just say hipster or ask people where's the Portlandia of NYC.

JC could still use some upgrades, but hope everybody else stays stuck on the mystique of the New York label. It makes life a lot easier on this side of the river.

I've seen other major closures work well, but only when planned in advance with lots of public input and notice. Given the limited number of highways to get from Newark to JC, this plan isn't ready for prime time.

It seems to me that treating guns more like automobiles is the way to go. Gotta get a license before purchase and use, gotta take a "road test" to prove you know how to operate it safely, gotta get it insured, and gotta register it.

The insurance companies will quickly assign rates = risk (including coverage of uninsured guns), and the registration system will generate revenue.

I've sampled around and think Honshu is overrated. Splashy rolls, kinda fun, but the fish takes a back seat. I didn't expect to like it, but Teppan has been consistently good in the quality of the fish (service not so much). Sushi Tango is pretty good, pleasant and relaxed - my favorite.

Bring it on a year later it seems.

F1: New Jersey Race Postponed

The inaugural Grand Prix of America race in Northern New Jersey will be postponed one year until 2014, sources have confirmed to SPEED.com.

Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone and event organizers will make the announcement on Friday, sources said.

The race, scheduled for June 16, 2013, will be pushed back a year in order for track organizers to finish the permitting process needed to complete the 3.2-mile road course along the Hudson River in Weehawken and West New York, N.J.

Bring it on, baby! I'll be there, inhaling the fumes and grooving on the sound of 18,000 rpms!

I've had nothing but good quality and good value from the food trucks. They expand the palette of what's available, especially at lunch time, and the city should be encouraging them.

With all the Honshu picks, I went tonight and it was really good. Shared a Sushi Gold and Spicy Miso Ramen to get a sense of the place. Can't wait for a return bout.

Japanese food - your recommendations

What are your recommendations for good Japanese food without going across the river?

Obviously that means great sushi, but other Japanese cuisine, too. What's the best, what's the best value, who does good takeout? Anybody open late?

Thanks in advance.

A friend who lives in the neighborhood invited me. I thought it was way beyond standard, and have returned several times to eat-in. Great steak, also good roast pork. Easy take-out, and street parking usually right there.

A little weak on the vegetarian options (not a problem for me), and they close early (8pm?). But I'm a fan and really recommend it.

The beer garden is great for football. If you want to watch 7 games at once and track your fantasy teams, find a man cave. If you want to watch one game and maybe follow another, and do it with other fans and great beer, you gotta hit the Zep!
