Re: Thirty Acres Restaurant- Jersey Avenue

Wondering if 30 Acres tried to source their charcuterie (ah, gentrification) thru Europa. If Europa didn't make the cut, I wonder why.

Checking usage is helpful too - what does Another Store Gets Faded Out mean? Isn't the expression Phased Out? Not sure what Phasing Out a store involves, so that might be inappropriate too. Isn't fading out a film term? Hmm, so maybe it is appropriate for a camera shop.

I think most of us would become bedwetters if we had to spend a few nights in that Paris building - they are called HLMs and are usually pretty horrible. I've been in a few and have friends who grew up in them in the Paris and Lyon suburbs. First thing you do if you can is move out, second is move your parents out.
(Did you know that French children are legally responsible for the economic wellbeing of their parents and grandparents?)

Can someone clarify - was it stipulated in the original agreement that the affordable housing would be for artists or is the PADNA statement just expressing their preference for who might occupy these units?

Why do they "delay" rather than "reject"? Is the city's only recourse denial of permission to build or is he breaking a contract that allows for additional penalties?

Hard to imagine that enough qualified working families couldn't be found just among the employees of Shoprite, BJs and BBB.

Would people also object to young occupants who don't make enough money to pay the rent but who get subsidized by their parents - the Section Mom & Dad program?

Made a detour to pick up a sandwich there, nothing out of the ordinary. I'll stick with Buon Appetito when I want something sloppy and tomatoey.

They have menus with prices in the pizzeria. Nothing shocking.

What makes a bar douchey - vinegar and water cocktails?

Anyone know what constitutes a property? Does, for example, Grove Pointe constitute one property or the total number of apartments in the building?

I am reminded of the joke about the man who was supposed to go to Cox's for a seersucker blazer, but got confused and went to Sear's. Thanks for bringing back a chuckle.

1. Don't renters form the most likely pool of potential buyers. Most of the people I know in JC rented before buying.

2. Compare Villa Borinquen - moderate income renters - to the block to the south which are individually owned row houses. Walk both sides of Second St. between Manila and Marin. Which development is looking after the neighborhood better? Walk the east side of Manila after a snowfall.

If they get decent fish and meat and maybe some prepared food it would be great. The word must be out, midday Sunday the the place was really crowded. My last fish purchase at Shoprite was my last.

I like that they have names for the different bagel and drink combos. The Marcel Proust - A Madeleine Bagel with an Iced Linden Tea - was a lovely way to start the morning.

Had a lovely dinner here tonight - food, service and price were all correct. Best to check the menu since it is not geared to everyone's taste and it will help choose what sort of wine (if any) to bring. Definitely a winner.

I don't believe that architectural solutions can solve serious problems. Didn't extreme architectural determinism get blown up at the same time as Pruitt-Igoe or more locally at Curry Woods?

Capitol is terrific. Roofing work should be done before it gets hot; I was told that roofers are not insured if they work when the temp. goes above 80 degrees. Maybe that's an urban legend, though.

I need to modify my post. If the man who looks like Captain Kangaroo is alone at Europa, you might have a very hard time explaining what you want. At least I do.

500+ posts, so forgive my laziness, but what transit systems are not pathetic? My criteria include:
24/7 operation
reasonable cleanliness
safety
cops that aren't scarier than the thugs
integration with other transit modes - easy transfer and same payment system

I have only used 3 other systems with regularity: NYC, Paris, Lyon, and except for the 24/7, Lyon meets my criteria. NYC probably violates the Geneva convention (I always feel like a POW) and is filthy, Paris stinks (a metro cologne "Madeleine", named after the stinkiest station doesn't help (personal hygiene is not the problem)) and is stiffling in the warmer months as well as being more crowded than NYC despite trains running as often as 90 seconds apart (ligne 14).

I would love to be able to e-mail myself to midtown, but all attempts have been stymied by my shoes which just don't
transfer, except for my espadrilles, of course.

I love the wontons in the wonton soup at The Box. Thanks to other posters for their suggestions; I'm not sure I would try the mussels at La Conguita without their endorcements.

I also love the garlic studded ham at Europa and that you can have nitrate free bacon cut to your preferred thickness.

A guy from my gym works there (he might be an owner), he says they are still under construction, but plan to open. Curious about the comment about high prices - where do you find these types of products at lower prices?
