Another accident on Kennedy Blvd (and Fairmont Ave)?

I saw a large utility pole or something similar on its side on the southeast corner (the church) of Kennedy and Fairmount yesterday afternoon, with cops there that put down road flares on that corner. Anybody know what happened there? I couldn?t find anything on Google. I recently moved to the area from downtown, and didn?t know about the traffic accident history of that spot until I googled it. Yikes.

Can someone PM me immediately if they see the saxophone guy? I'll walk over to him and give him some money and also a note of appreciation summarizing what we've been talking about here.

His saxophone playing is definitely a positive part of the community.

Bagpipe guy -- not so much. It's like there's a funeral every day. Plus, he keeps messing up, so it's irritating.

If you see this, Mr. Bagpipe Guy, please stop. Or take up the saxophone.

I see / hear saxophone guy occasionally down in Grove Plaza on weekday mornings. Such a great soundtrack for my commute, but I do miss his evening streetlight serenades. Like coming home to a Raymond Chandler novel.

Exactly! He used to play in the late afternoon/early evenings when I'd hear him. I used to always think, "this is too good to be true for it to last forever. He'll stop eventually." Well, that day has come I guess, and he's been reincarnated as the bagpipe guy. (sad face)

I love ACDC, but that would get tiring, too, eventually. I loved the saxophone because it was like ambient noise. Chill and just a step above the sounds of birds.

Best place to study/work (open late!) in downtown JC

So far, Starbucks at Grove St. station seems to be the only place I know of that is open until at least 11pm.

Any other suggestions for a place to study/work that is open until at least 11?

I agree that cars shouldn't be blocking the line of sight from potential oncoming traffic. I get that a car shouldn't be parked in those particular corners of the street. I actually saw an accident the other day because of it. But all other spots, including the spot by the stop sign on the other side of the street, should be ok for people who need to park because they don't obstruct the view of oncoming cars. When a driver "creeps" out into an intersection, he only needs to see in one direction (oncoming traffic).

When I'm creeping out into an intersection (traffic coming from left to right), and I'm trying really hard to see around the car blocking my view to the left, I'm only annoyed at that car, not the one parked by the stop sign to my right. That car's fine.

So if JC only went after those cars that are obstructing views (only one corner of the street), then we'd have good situation. A few less parking spots taken away.

It looks like there's no way around this.

I'll either:
A) keep driving around until I eventually find something (which is what I normally do to find those borderline-legal spaces); after all, crackdowns usually mellow out sooner or later.

or

B) Rent a parking space ($$$)

I used to park at the ShopRite a lot, but reading about all the towing company's antics on this forum freaked me out, so I stopped, unless for a dire emergency.

More parking tickets recently, or just a coincidence?

I was tagged with 2 street parking tickets in two days ($84 hurts).

Has anyone noticed a crackdown on street parking violators recently?

I work late, so when I come home the only spaces available are those borderline-legal parking spaces at the beginning and end (near stop sign) of the street.

I survived like that for a couple of years, and I hope I can continue. Otherwise, I have to move away if there isn't enough parking. Same with a few of my buddies.

I'm not saying that we are the lifeline of the JC economy or anything (), but we do bring lots of business to downtown JC (we think), eating at restaurants and bars all week. , and we're a part of the tax base.

I also think there are lots of young people like us that live here. And when all of us combine, I think we make a pretty good dent in the downtown JC economy.

I hope no one will have to move because of strict parking rules. That's bad for everybody, including JC.
