I've completed transcription of the 2011 proposed city budget to Google Docs spreadsheet format:

Copy, paste, and analyze at will.

I've started transcribing the data into spreadsheet format available here.

I haven't finished yet, but it should be done within two weeks.

The Department of Early Childhood is committed to providing the 3- and 4-year old children, who are Jersey City residents, with developmentally appropriate preschool experiences. Our mission is to:

Provide a learning environment that will help children develop intellectually, socially, physically, and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development.
Include education on health, nutrition, and social and emotional well being into a daily program of varied activities.
Enhance children?s feelings of self-worth and appreciation of their own and other?s ethnicity, cultures, and languages.
Develop social competence by providing opportunities for children to make decisions and solve problems during their school day.
Ease the transition of children into primary grades by providing appropriate early childhood experiences.

We contract with childcare centers throughout Jersey City to provide classes for most of our three year olds, and the majority of our four year olds attend classes in the Jersey City Board of Education schools. All classes are small?no more than 15 children?and are staffed with certified Early Childhood professionals and paraprofessionals.

I've updated the Calendar to include the officially distributed information about Morning STARS and Casper: http://www.jcboe.org/

Registration for Casper is listed as 3 PM- 6 PM on Sep. 7, 8, and 9th. (Have money order for $78 available; no cash, no personal checks, no credit/debit cards accepted, no PayPal)

Registration for Morning STARS is listed as 3 PM- 6 PM on Sep. 8 and 9th. (Have money order for $45 available; no cash, no personal checks, no credit/debit cards accepted, no PayPal)

Hopefully that's a typo on the official calendar and Morning STARS registration will also be available on Wednesday Sep. 7th.

This is great, thank you.

Just a couple of observations.

For elementary school, Report Card Distribution is 12/1 not 11/30.

School reopen 1/3 not 1/2.

I did not see an early dismissal on 6/18.

Last day of school is 6/21 not 6/20.

Thanks so much for the corrections! I've made the changes to the calendar so it should be accurate now.

BTW, no official update on the Start of Morning STARS or CASPER yet.

Also, to import this calendar into iCal or your Google calendar, you can use this link:

Due to tight budgets and tough economic times, the City of Jersey City apparently did not have enough money to produce a professional-quality budget document.

If there is a enterprising high-school student that would like to earn some money, I will personally fund transcription of the Jersey City budget to Excel format. Feel free to make an offer on JC list.

Sepecat,
I'm glad you pointed out the official calendar. It was my inspiration for making a cleaner, more user-friendly calendar specifically for the elementary school kids' parents of Jersey City. The official calendar is OK, but mixes in alot of information that is irrelevant for parents (though important and relevant to staffers).

The color-coding in the official calendar is an admirable attempt to separate out the different categories of events, but ultimately is a failed effort: The calendar was distributed in black and white (!)

ecinjc,
I'm glad you liked it. As you know, this is a PUBLIC calendar so anyone can import it into their gmail calendars. For non-gmail users, the calendar can be viewed in any web browser at the following link:

I've made a a parent-centric school calendar. Most of the events apply to all students, but the calendar is specifically tailored for parents of elementary school kids in the JC Public Schools.
