Could the mods please un-merge these threads? All the posts in this thread are from over 3 years ago, before our club had even done much of anything. This thread was meant to bring attention to a class we're doing soon, but now it's just got the title "Jersey City Brew Club" which doesn't really draw attention to the event we wanted to talk about. We would really appreciate it.

Join our beer judge study group!

The Jersey City Brew Club - a club for homebrewers and beer lovers in Jersey City and the surrounding area (we have members from Bayonne, Hoboken, and as far as Newark and Montclair) is hosting a study group for the BJCP program.

BJCP is the Beer Judge Certification Program, a program that standardizes beer judging. Certified judges can judge homebrews and professional beers in contests around the country. But it's not just about drinking beer, as it's focused on the entire process of how beer is made. Once we've gone through our study group, you should be able to taste a beer with off flavor and know what went wrong and how it can be improved.

So join us for our study group! Only dues-paying members of the JCBC can attend, so if you aren't a dues-paying member, make sure to choose the right option on the BrownPaperTickets page.

And if you're a homebrewer or beer lover, please join us at HopsScotch tomorrow evening (Wednesday the 19th) at 7:30PM for our monthly meeting. We always bring homebrewed beer and cider to share and critique, and everyone is very welcoming and friendly.

To reserve a spot:

By the way, the cost of the study group covers beer, snacks, the space we're meeting at, and study materials. We also have several pros from the industry scheduled to talk to us.

Large Kitchen for Events?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a large kitchen somewhere in downtown JC. The short is that I'd like to teach some homebrewing classes on a monthly basis. I'm unsure if anyone would be willing to open their house to a crowd of 10-12, but if anyone has some leads I'd appreciate the insight.

Thanks

Thanks Frankie for voicing your opinion and not offering any assistance.

The design was completed in draft by a close friend, who was doing the group a favor. The design is great, but needs some polishing so I'm requesting someone that can work within the confines of what was done. As I've expressed to many associates in Jersey City - we will naturally pay for time incurred.

Hey guys,

The Jersey City Brew Club is looking for an artist to finish our logo. It's nearly complete but needs some polishing.

If you could recommend a few artists who do hourly work, please let them know - or refer them our way.

Thanks!

Re: Water Quality in Jersey City?

The following information came from a water test that I received two weeks ago. The water came straight from an unfiltered tap in an apartment across from the JC library (in Van Vorst). It's main intention is to be used with brewing beer so take what you want from it. But at the end of the day, the water is fine. Any "nasty" tastes is a result of the amount of salts and minerals in the water, not toxins. It's all healthy stuff. pH 6.6 Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) Est 210 Electrical Conductivity, mmho/cm 0.35 Cations / Anions, me/L 2.9 / 2.8 ppm Sodium, Na 39 Potassium, K < 1 Calcium, Ca 15 Magnesium, Mg 5 Total Hardness, CaCO3 58 Nitrate, NO3-N 0.3 (SAFE) Sulfate, SO4-S 4 Chloride, Cl 70 Carbonate, CO3 < 1 Bicarbonate, HCO3 34 Total Alkalinity, CaCO3 28 "<" - Not Detected / Below Detection Limit

@york Join up and shoot me a message. We're having a tasting the Wednesday before Thanksgiving if you're interested in participating.

@stranger I've been buying from Northern Brewer which has a flat shipping rate of $7. I just discovered that the Gaslamp in South Orange has a homebrew store (and very reasonable prices). There's also a brew store in the Gowanus portion of Brooklyn - but I haven't made it out there yet. I've also heard rumors of a place in Freehold, but haven't looked into it.

Hell yeah we did. The owner seriously hooked us up and the owner from NJ Beer Co was there to chill out. Great times all around!

Ah, Duffy's is the last name of one of the members. For just this time around, we're going to keep it to the members that have already met in person. Just a safety thing.

We'll be putting a few events together in the very near future (visiting the New Jersey Beer Company in North Bergen or going to Iron Monkey for their Thursday beer nights). So definitely come out and meet some of the guys.

Hey guys,

A few local JC dudes formed a home brew (beer) club and are looking for new members! We're hoping to get a few people interested in the beer making and drinking process. We'll be brewing every 6-8 weeks, drinking our suds, and doing other beer/wine/cocktail related events.

We're in the first stages of formation, but the good news is that we'll have a Spiced Pumpkin Ale and a Hopped Apple Cider beer ready in time for Thanksgiving.

Our page is on fb: JCBC Homepage
