I'm focusing on the intersection of Erie and First because it's my local problem intersection. We had three accidents in the first two weeks of September and that inspired me to create the site.
Here's my invitation to all of you: send your images of illegally parked cars, the intersection, the time you took the picture and a closeup of the license plate to jcparkinghallofshame@gmail.com. I will then post the pictures, anonymously, of course.

We deeply appreciate the service and sacrifice police officers make, but the actions of FOP member(s) who knowingly block any fire hydrant are unacceptable.
Photograph the cars that have FOP plates, note the times and dates they are blocking the hydrant and then send the pictures and a letter to the Executive Board of Jersey City FOP Lodge #4 Look up the names and emails of FOP Lodge #4's Executive Board along the left hand side. Here's their mailing address: Jersey City Lodge #4 PO Box 3872 Jersey City, NJ 07303 201 424-8625 In addition, send a copy of the letter and pictures to: Edward R. Brannigan President Fraternal Order of Police - New Jersey State Lodge 108 W. State St. Trenton, NJ 08608 609-599-1222 www.njfop.org Just a thought....

It's a combination of problems at our corners: poor signage, lack of well-maintained (and painted) crosswalks and red-lined curbs, lack of enforcement and people parking at the corners.
Here's a site we created to help drivers understand the implications of their actions: Jersey City Parking Hall of Shame Will someone be killed before the city takes enforcement action or paints the crosswalks?

>>while I appreciate the sentiment behind the creation of this site, many of the cars you posted were parked a good distance from the stop signs. it's the jerks who park right-up-to the corner who are creating a dangerous situation.
In most instances there are two state laws that are being broken: New Jersey Statute Annotated 39:4-138(e) prohibits parking within 25 feet of a crosswalk. New Jersey Statute Annotated 39:4-138(h) mandates that cars need to be parked further than 50 feet from a stop sign. Of course I realize that in a city both of these distances are unrealistic. All of the cars listed on the site are less than 15 feet from the stop signs, which obscures the signs from being seen in time by traffic moving down First Street. Additionally, there is only one stop sign at the intersection of First and Erie Streets. Is there a specific car you were concerned about?

>>Yes, I've noticed that and all the more reason to record and photograph any illegally parked cars. Sue the owners of those cars and the city too for not enforcing the parking regulations thus endangering pedestrians and drivers.
The Jersey City Parking Hall of Shame has been established to raise awareness of the parking issues in our neighborhood. While we won't be suing anytime soon, this site clearly shows the need for enforcement and improvements at the intersection. Jersey City Parking Hall of Shame
