Re: Teacher Protests Disturbing Neighborhood

My son has gone a few times with me to protests as well. When he learned why the teachers were demonstrating, he said that 'there should be a law' that prevents them from making less money each year. He made a sign that reads "hands of my teachers' money." Hopefully there will be a new, and fair, contract soon and students won't have to join their teachers in protest anymore.

No contract for 2017-2018 and yet only in the last ten days have teachers stood in front of schools to demand a fair contract (did you know that the majority of them earn less than they did six years ago ?) At 8 am they go back in and prepare to teach their students. Without a contract, as they have done since the beginning of the school year !

There is almost an hour more to this. If you want to see what really happened (= a christian group provoking people/kids at an Arab festival until they start throwing trash at them) you can see the unedited one hour version here:

Here is a video of a Christian group being stoned by Muslims in Dearborn, Michigan. The group complained to the cops and they did nothing. Likewise, the cops knew what was happening on 9/11 and they did nothing.

lol that video

There's more to it than that, of course.

Just to clarify some things:

Is it NOT a fact that one the things that is a tremendous and constant source of pride in our country is that we're a self described "melting pot" where foreigners who now live here make every effort to adopt to our culture i.e. learning our language/dressing in a western manner etc

In a meting pot one flavor does not try to emulate the other. In a meting pot two (or more) flavors make a new one.

Didn't de Blasio just close portions of the roads in Central Park without any sort of vote?

Not sure if he did it without approval Mooby, but if he did my reaction is the same. Government by imperial fiat is a BIG problem.

One thing we don't need worry about is road closings in our Parks. We're doing the opposite in Jersey City. We're going to build a bridge across Mill creek connecting Phillip St to Jersey Avenue so that Turnpike traffic can exit directly through Liberty State Park. Immediately after crossing the new bridge all that traffic hits a badly aligned grade level-crossing for the HBLR on Jersey Ave, and then traffic lights at Jersey & Grand. Oh, and we're spending the $10 million it costs without doing a traffic study to determine the impact. Perhaps I missed it, but I haven't heard a single utterance from our Mayor about this plan.... Maybe it was already approved by imperial decree as well?

The Mayor's representative at the public hearing regarding the building of the bridge said that the process so far has been done in cooperation and with support of the Mayor's office. Neither the Turnpike Authority - who will built and pay for the bridge before handing it over to JC - nor the JC administration did any traffic study on possible traffic flow after the bridge has been built.

Assuming that you can benefit from having a white person around is true in many cases. Catching a cab at night for example.

This in rely to "Did you pay said white person? That's racist to assume that you could benefit from another person's race. Hopefully you got one of these polished looking white people with combed hair and a collared shirt, maybe a pair of slacks and loafers ? because if you didn't and ended up with one of these other kinds of white people that drives a pickup truck and shops at Walmart who know's how that would have turned out."

It took up to reply number 13 to bring up the smell of curry. That used to be the go to for not wanting Indian neighbors. How interesting to see heavy feet being thrown in the mix.

I guess what my husband said years ago when we were looking for a condo still counts: 'it's always best to take somebody white with you if want to rent or buy."

I love it! Hypocrites that claim they are for development and building a stronger Jersey City until development is proposed in their own backyard.

I wonder if this is the mindset of those against this development: I spent a lot of money to live in this historic district, and I'll be damned if I let anyone else move in nearby that didn't pay as much as me.

Given that this developer is planning on making lots of money, I doubt that any of the units will go for cheaper than the going rate at the, mostly historic district, units around them.

You know what would be hypocritical if approved: through the front windows of our unit we would see a four story parking lot and a 18 story tower but yet we would still not be able to replace the now aluminum windows by anything but custom made windows - wooden with panes in a specific green color ! - in order to preserve the historic nature of our street/building.
