Re: Street sweeping program to end in Jersey City Heights on Jan. 28

I agree it is the responsibility of all of us to keep our properties clean. The city is not doing its part either. Enforcement of the litter law is lax. Catch basins are not cleared. City refuse cans are overflowing or disappeared. The street sweeping trucks are annoying and almost useless. The garbage pick up is sloppy and often unsupervised. Residents don't know how to put out trash or don't care. Residents get the kind of government we deserve and since many of us don't vote, this is what we get. Its time to stand up make a change in leadership.

We have enough malls. Although the governor believes there is something salvageable, I would rather see it turned back into a wetlands area. There is no market for anything else at this time in the current economy.

Well if you did not vote in the last election (which was many of us) then you shouldn't complain. Maybe now some of us will realize how important it is to get involved in our local government so that our economic future is not sold down the river. Jersey City administrations past and present simply sold us out by not choosing to make the hard choices that need to be made to cut spending and get worker contracts under control. Consequently highly paid government employees now make 22% more on average than in the private sector.

One time quick fixes used to solve the budget deficits were not the way for the city to go over the years. Our local government wimped out on us and now we as taxpayers will suffer for it.

Concerned citizens in the heights and beyond. It is time to make your city government work for you.

I am writing about the developer of the Brass Works project located at the bottom of Mountain Road along the Paterson Plank road. The developer promised the city that he would build the steps linking Jersey City and Hoboken and has reneged on his signed agreement with the city. The city granted permission to build the project as part of that agreement. He now has fully leased the property and is collecting sizable rents. Still there is no safe access in the form of the "steps". Please contact your local councilpersons Gaughan and Lopez and let them know you want the steps built by the developer as legally promised in the developer's agreement back in 2005. The city must pursue all legal means to get this project started and completed.
