Thanks, all. I didn't think it would be necessary but just wanted to hear what others had done.

Is an attorney necessary for refinancing a mortgage?

I will be refinancing through a mortgage broker, not a bank, and was wondering if an attorney is really necessary. Although I am not dealing the with the bank that currently holds my mortgage, the re-fi paperwork seems straightforward and I have a good handle on the legalese used in contracts. Thoughts/advice?

I took a course through Weichert about 5 years ago. It cost a few hundred dollars (I think) and was held in a building very close to the Hoboken PATH station. They offered day, evening and weekend classes. Once I passed the NJ state exam I also took and passed the NY one to have more options.
