I looked there at one point in time and the person renting the apt said that a number of years ago there was a fire that gutted out multiple brownstones. A builder then bought and consolidated all of the units

Where exactly? I recall that area being flat as Iowa except for the street.

The area is mostly flat except that across from the diner there is an embankment to a road that leads to Liberty National...at the top of it is a guardrail and small area to begin your launch...its very steep and quick. I haven't been this year but had a blast last year and after hot cocoa and doughnuts at the diner.

My first ever comment about Trader Joe's and now I'm labeled obsessed.
That's weird.

This again what? Did you put to bed the age old question of Whole Foods vs Trader Joe's on Newark ave already? I must have missed it.

Trader Joe's makes more sense than Whole Foods. Plus can you imagine the traffic nightmare that either a Trader Joe's or a Whole Foods would cause in that location? Parking?

Agree that its time to clean house...out with the old and in with the new. As for Newport Mall...that place has it's own problems with keeping tenants around. Unless you are going to the Gap for Jeans, Sears for tools, Macy's for whatever or Kohls for anything else there is absolutely nothing worth going there for.

There is an article in Jersey City Magazine titled "The 13 Weirdest People in Jersey City"

I wonder if they look at you and think the exact same thing you are thinking

As per any other project in Jersey City, anyone care to guess how much over budget and how much longer it will take to finish the project than anticipated?

This town makes me a pessimist...

Early November? Try early April 2011 at the earliest. It doesn't look like they have even started on it

I was flirting with the idea of opening a restaurant and have a few ideas, but I wanted to canvass JC list to see if people here would share their ideas with me and tell me what type of restaurant/bar they would like to see open in JC.

Re: Hamilton Park Renovation - Update

Who is responsible for maintenance to the park? The grass has gotten out of control and is more than knee high in some areas. Would someone be so bold as to form a botanical comittee, or the like, for the park so that able bodied local volunteers can help take part in the maintenance of it? I would be more than willing to give up a few hours a month to cut the grass and trim the edges around the fenceline. Also witnessed a group of young men playing soccer in one of the pet free areas with cleats, digging up the lawn. Don't get me wrong, I am an advocate of pick up game of any sort and the fact that the park is drawing people from other neighborhoods is a good thing but a little common sense is in order. As a resident I believe that we have a responsibility to help to maintain the park and to help keep it in good shape. Pick up soccer games are fine, but with cleats? I mentioned to them that they are ruining the grass in the area and whether or not my words were truly heard and understood remains to be seen but if other residents see this type of activity I believe it is in the best interest of the park to help stop this type of play. I think that the park is a beautiful addition to the area and want to see it and the neighborhood grow and thrive but irresponsible behavior from just a few people can thwart the efforts of many to help it along. Any thoughts from the residents?

You're right to think that drivers would actually stop at a flashing red light or a stop sign is completely ridiculous.

It doesn't take long to destroy what it took so long to build. Today a bum sleeping next to the tennis courts and some guy tearing up the newly seeded grass by taking a weight sled with 45 lb plates and running it across then taking the plates off and dropping them on the grass digging up big divots. When I asked him why he was digging up the grass and wouldn't he be better off running his sled in Liberty State Park he started yelling at me and called me a passive agressive douchebag (really?) and to mind my own business. If you live in Hamilton Park and see him with his weight sled on the grass (5'5 250 lbs bald with an obvious case of roid rage) please ask him to stop ruining the new lawn but be careful, he's angry.

Yes there are places other than Crystal Point in Jersey City...however, highlighting other areas in JC was not the point of the article. The point (or one of them) was to highlight lower priced real estate alternatives to Manhattan. JC certainly fits the bill and if you live in the downtown area of JC the commute via path is certainly quicker into downtown Manhattan and West points leading up to Penn Station than from other NYC buroughs.

The gym will be a welcome addition to the area and will also have a lap pool. Madame Claudes wine store should be up and running by mid to late summer. I hope that it finds a unique niche and does not just offer wines because the Buy Rite liquor warehouse (Just 3 blocks away) is huge and has it all. Price in these tough economic times is everything in retail.

We also mailed our form in a couple of weeks ago but had a census worker stop by last night and fill out the form again. Wonder how much $ is wasted by this double coverage?
