The fact that they're more expensive than SS, within reason, is expected and in my view entirely acceptable. The trouble is that they're worse, more expensive, and from what I see - they don't offer anything unique other than "hey, we're here and they're not." I'm in Manhattan enough that I'll just grab SS there if I'm in the mood.

I appreciate that they're in somewhat of a tough bind, but it is business 101 to realize that you have to offer some competitive advantage to stay in business.

With respect to the "restaurant burger" vs "upscale fast food burger" I agree that they're different animals. The key though, is that they're different price ranges too. I think we're starting to get certain of the latter approaching the price of the former, especially if you want something like fries with your burger. For example, Hamilton Inn, which sells a decent organic burger for $10 with fries (granted, you'll have to pay extra for cheese) ends up seeming like a value. Park and Sixth, which has a great burger for $14 with fries is only slightly more expensive - and is a far more substantial burger.

Has Hamilton Park upped their burger game? I've only had their burger a few times over the last 3 years and I always thought what i received was a pre-frozen, overcooked patty. If things have changed, I'd give them another shot (maybe).

White Castle and about the same size as the $1 McDonalds hamburger, but with more toppings, "fancy" beef and special sauce, which puts it squarely in the $1.99 retail price range.

They're aspiring to be a Shake Shack in size and quality, but Shake Shack costs $5.66 (tax included) vs $7.38 at this knock-off.

Overpriced. Won't last.

Sounds like Mr. Wonderful is out.

They apologized and asked for an email saying that I would not dispute this any further. They know they are wrong having people pay double. They could easily program the card reader not to do this. If 1000 first time users, make the same mistake each year, that's $6000 extra revenue. Multiply that by x garages and that's a significant amount of extra money, that they haven't really earned.

I'm going to email Grove Pointe a link to this thread - I MUST SEE WHAT HAPPENS!

Also went last night and can totally agree with gt2220 on the cocktails, they were fantastic. Went with a group of four and had a chance to try a variety of things on the menu:

? Bread & Butter (3 tiny biscuits, spicy honey paired great )
? Duck Deviled Eggs (good but not memorable)
? Brussel sprouts (great, with apple? can't remember)
? Elk Sliders (2 per plate of average size, very tasty and not too spicy)
? Venison Corn Dog (2 per plate, quite small, maybe 2.5", just OK)
? Duck Poutine (very good, hard to discern amount of duck meat)
? Short Rib (wow, fantastic, melt in your mouth)

Overall the food was very good and nicely presented. However, I would NOT suggest going with the intention of eating a true, sit-down meal. The portions are modest for the price - but I think that's probably the whole point of the concept, that this is a bar first and a restaurant second. Our bill came to about 200 plus tip for the food mentioned above plus 5 cocktails, 2 glasses of wine and 2 beers. Not unreasonable, but we did leave with the intention of grabbing a quick slice of pizza to finish off the night.

The new sign at the corner of Pavonia and Monmouth has to be more than 25ft from the intersection. Probably enough room for one of those Poland Spring delivery trucks, maybe with even room to spare.

This clears things up:

"The victim told police he did not want further police action, according to the report. He hadn't called police ? officers responded to the scene when a resident called to report a trail of blood on the sidewalk leading to the victim's home, the report says."

Are we talking just brake pads or the whole shabang (pads, rotors, calipers, lines, etc). If it's just the pads, I'd say that's totally reasonable for 38,000 of city driving - even 20,000 would be within reason. If it's the entire system, I'd be pretty suspicious.

Is it standard procedure to withhold the suspect's name because the dispute is "domestic in nature?" This fool goes to a public shopping area with an ax and injures two people whom he DOES NOT have a dispute with and now he is on the loose?

I'd kinda like to know who this guy is?

We had a drink and a bite at the bar. It is a nice place. Comfortable and attractive. The bartender and service staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive.

The beer list was odd. They offered six beers, four of which had ABVs over 8% with several at 12% or so. Personally, I am not crazy about high alcohol beers. Just my own preference. The two remaining beers were a lager that I had tried before and wasn't crazy about and an overly cute craft beer, which might have been great, or not. I like a lot of different styles of beer so a broader beer menu would be greatly appreciated.

if the beer menu is all 8% ABV or more, that will get me in the door. A cocktail bar/restaurant is usually not the sort of place I'm going for a night out drinking ? a couple stiff drinks and a bite to eat is in order. When I want to dance-off-pants-off on Bud Light, I'll pop my collar and bromance at "Club Porta"

In the grand scheme of things, it's probably not as large a waste of money as it seems. Large companies have large budgets and I'm sure thousands of photos were shot that day, and what we are looking at in the catalog is the cut. Others will be used as marketing materials, website images, in-store graphics (possibly) and such. Since the product being sold is the garment and not the location, it only makes sense to the the product as clearly as possible.

Re: Jersey City writer hates new Shepard Fairey mural

Fairey is a very polarizing figure, which always tends to be the case with "popular artists,", the general public doesn't separate the art from the person. I spent about 5 minutes staring at the mural yesterday and agree that in some fashion, it looks unfinished (maybe it was because the scaffolding was still hanging around). i kept looking for some hidden message/image in the wave and came up empty. This might end up being an inside joke and only Fairey is laughing.

His piece by the Holland Tunnel is much more intriguing, i suggest going to see that one.

So the CSWA (Chinese Staff and Worker's Association) wants to challenge a law that requires electric bikes to be registered? Is there a fee that comes with registration? If so, the restaurants/delivery companies should eat the cost like they would for a company fleet.

On a somewhat related note, has anyone else been waiting on new parking permits? I sent in the renewal form at least 3 weeks ago. I called JCPA a week ago and they said they, "have a huge pile of mail here" and are essentially just behind. They told me that they won't be issuing tickets, which they haven't (because my permit expired on 9/30), but I'm wondering what's going on.

I wouldn't worry too much about the expiration date on your permit, I've seen numerous cars parked around town with stickers dating back to 2013 or later.

The one on the corner of Pavonia and Monmouth is ridiculous, you could park at least 3 cars in that "No Parking" space.

Re: PATH-Weary Jersey City Wants to Build a Pedestrian Bridge to Manhattan

I love the idea but there is no way in hell a bridge of that span would be built just for foot traffic. You can also bet your sweet ass that "toll" would be collected which would make the practicality of it, well, unpractical.

Again, love the idea but a more logical plan would be to open existing bridges/tunnels to pedestrian traffic.

Re: Thirty Acres Restaurant- Jersey Avenue

After reading this second article, I kinda get where Kevin is coming from. Like almost all of us, he became a product of his environment. The industry is super cut-throat, and being a rising star from a prestigious restaurant came with a lot of baggage. I'm sure he felt like there was a lot to prove, to do things that one naturally wouldn't do, just because everyone around you expects you to do them. He wants to escape the shadow, and i think that is natural. It's just unfortunate that JC will loose another unique business that the town could feel proud about.
