Re: Visitor Parking Permits/Parking Regulations

No, that sounds right. Did he get one of the new-fangled boots? Where you can pay by phone with your credit card and they unlock it remotely? I've heard of cars getting booted for just being parked over the 2 hours ... lots of times!

I looked into visitor parking passes and it was the same scenario you describe in your first post. Completely ridiculous and impossible for people who work and don't have their own cars in this city. It was the same for me. I had a visitor with a car for a few days, but I guess we were lucky. She only got two tickets - no boot.

I recently went to a doctor in Hoboken. When I told her I was from Jersey City, she immediately told me her JC parking story (everyone has one!). It was her first time in JC. She came for lunch with friends and .... her car got booted. She certainly didn't have any other violations on record. In fact, I was surprised that JC Listers were giving this city that much benefit of the doubt! Why does this surprise anyone? It's been going on a long time.

Amiya's is my favorite for Indian food downtown/harborside. They do a great lunch buffet during the week, but only if you can get in. Gets very crowded with the Harborside building employees. I ordered food last night from Wild Fusion. It also took far too long to arrive and was cold. I really think it was just the weather and demand for delivery last night.

There's one of these at Hamilton Park, too. Placement is not as bad as Van Vost, but only by inches. Can they move/remove that one as well??

Re: Jersey City, despite rising housing prices Downtown, added 2,597 affordable houses

I am interested in what's considered 'affordable'. Does anyone know? A home/condo in Jersey City that a person making under $50K a year can afford? Is that possible? Or is 'affordable' what's marketed to those making merely $100K? If you make too much to qualify for low-income housing and far too little to buy something, I guess you're stuck renting forever and being pushed further and further out as rents rise?

Sorry, don't know more than that. He called to tell us he was ok, but 'covered in debris'. Another employee who was in the parking lot by Harborside said the ground shook beneath her feet and that she saw a flash of light - must have been the car catching on fire? I was at my desk when it happened. All that happened was the power going out but coming back on (generator?) right afterwards. The elevators didn't, however. When we got the calls about an 'explosion', we all left. We're not an alarmist bunch, but people are just different about 'explosions' in financial business areas nowadays. I'm surprised that it didn't merit any coverage on the local broadcast news, however. I didn't see anything? Did anyone? Just the story of a manhole blowout and underground fire in the Bronx somewhere. Did they not want to do another similar story or did JC not rate?

Thanks for the post! I was working at Harborside when this happened, and nobody knew what was going on. I haven't been able to find anything on it. We all left the office after this happened (had to walk down 29 flights of stairs). One of our employees was on his way to the Path and got covered in debris, but thank goodness - was not hurt. Of course, the b-word is always on everyone's mind! Good to know that's not what it was and only one person was hurt.
