Any Texas fans watching the game in JC tonight? It's on FSN and unavailable (even to buy PPV) on Comcast.

Alternatively, does anyone know of a site where I can watch it live on the internet?

Of course. This is why if I do go running over there, it'll be during the day. However, because I'm new in town, I figured it also wouldn't hurt to solicit opinions from people who have been around for longer than I have. I'm not using this forum as a replacement for my own common sense about safety; rather, I'm using it to gather all of the information I can before I potentially venture off---on foot---into a less-than-desirable neighborhood.

And I think you should comment when you feel strongly about something. But, that you appear to "feel strongly" that any mention of race---innocuous or not---deserves your comment does not suggest that you "really hate to make this a race issue."

As a side note, I really think people like you contribute to the problem of race relations in this country. I merely gave a physical description of myself and you jumped all over it. When this happens, it cements my perception that white people aren't allowed to mention race---even when giving a physical description of THEMSELVES---without having the uber-sensitive PC police on their back.

You sure don't seem to hate to make this a race issue. In fact, you seem like one of those people who actively enjoys making things into a race issue.

why do you bother to go all the way there to run. you live in paulus hook right? just run along the waterfront walkway from newport down to the piers by goldman. It's a nice path....

That's what I've been doing but I just wanted to mix it up a bit, especially for a weekend long run.

What is not safe about LSP?

Someone alluded to questionable safety on the pedestrian bridge that I would use to run to the park. That was my main concern.

Take it easy, captain. I was merely giving a physical description of myself. You can find whatever part of that description relevant or not relevant at your discretion.

Is LSP itself safe (including the trip by foot from JC)? I've been meaning to go running over there one weekend.

So if I want to get from Exchange Place to Newark Airport by train, how would I do it?

(Sorry, I'm new and my only trip to the airport so far was by car service/taxi and, like others pointed out, it was quite expensive)

I have not seen that sign or anything like it. Why would anyone refer to it as a "boardwalk"...it's all concrete bricks and steel?

Since they have never closed any other part of the Waterfront Walkway during the Winter, I doubt this section will close. This of course presumes it will ever OPEN, which I am beginning to doubt.

This is what I was talking about in that Shore Club vs. Mandalay thread:

http://blog.nj.com/hobokennow_impact/ ... arge_signageatwalkway.JPG

(I wasn't quite right---it's open year-round, but closes early enough in the evening in the winter that it won't be very useful for daily commuters)

It may not have said "boardwalk" but something else, like "pedestrian bridge."

I'm not sure what I'm remembering. I'll try to get out that way next weekend and check it out again.

One advantage of the Shore will be access to Hoboken's train station by way of the waterfront. The bridge should open in the next few weeks, making Shore about 5 to 8 minutes from half of NJ Transit's train lines, the light rail, and the bus terminal.

When I was at the JC side of the new footpath to Hoboken a few weeks ago, I thought I saw a sign that said something like "Boardwalk open April through November." Can someone confirm this (I had to wander into the construction site a bit to get to the start of the bridge)? If this is true, it makes this thoroughfare significantly less valuable for commuters.

Re: Rental Agency Recommendation

I can't answer your specific question (i.e. I don't know of a good agency), but you may want to give craigslist a try. I've found my last two places on craigslist, and have been very happy with both. Plus, you get to avoid broker fees this way.

On the other hand, it'll probably be more work to do it that way (you'll have to show the place yourself, for instance), and there are also some inherent risks in dealing over craigslist.

Net, I'm probably not offering much useful information here other than to say I've had very good experiences as a renter using craigslist.

Good luck!

I find it interesting that she would make this suggestion. Basically telling you to stay away when the poor people do their welfare shopping.

I ran by last weekend and it was still fenced off. It looked like there were still some guardrails to put up, so I'd be surprised if it was open by now.

That's reassuring. It really does look pretty decent---on par with any other grocery store sushi. It's reasonably priced, too. Maybe I'll give it a try this weekend.

Has anyone tried the sushi at ShopRite?

It actually looks decent, but I'm unwilling to try it on a weeknight where a bout of food sickness would prevent me from going to work the next day.

"The skies over the river are often filled with pleasure craft, buzzing by for a view of the skyline.

Crashes happen every few years. New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle and his flight instructor died when their plane hit a skyscraper while flying a popular sightseeing route over the East River in 2006."

http://www.newsday.com/debris-rains-d ... ide-over-hudson-1.1357618

I think the reason this "made front-page news and dominated the cable news shows all day" was because 9 people died and because there was great film of the accident. We are lucky a lot of people on land also didn't get killed because of these deadly joy rides - ban this activity around heavily populated areas - and ban air shows in these areas too.

Yes, I remember when Cory Lidle's plane crashed into a building. But that had nothing to do with congestion in the air like yesterday's midair collision did. That could have happened whether he was flying the Hudson River corridor or whether he was on approach to Newark (something I assume you're not suggesting we prohibit).

Plus, you're making it sound like these helicopters and planes are flying over the city. Unless they are under positive control of air traffic control, they're not. All of the uncontrolled traffic must remain over the river.

The fact remains that midair collisions---and other accidents resulting from congestion---over the corridor are extremely rare. There are procedures in place to keep it this way. Of course, accidents can happen, but instead of overreacting, let's learn whatever we can from this tragedy and continue flying safely.

There is no reason to ban small aircraft from flying the Hudson River VFR.

Do you know why this story has made front-page news and dominated the cable news shows all day? Because accidents like this are so very, very rare! Hundreds of these flights operate safely every single day.

This was a tragedy to be sure, but there is no need to overreact.
