I found it really nasty the way Flood "answered" to voters this meeting. It took her practically 5 min and a talk with her pals to say "Mr. Fulop is not here".

This post is not to deter past speakers, but to encourage anyone who hasn't spoke at he Council meetings to come out and give your voice. It doesn't need to be a well rehearsed or long speech.
Just say your against what they're doing and sit down. Simple as that.

There is an election April 20th for the Board of Education. Their budget is over $600 million. Some of which is paid from our property taxes.

You want to run this town? Don't just go to the Council meeting. Organize your supporters there into a GOTV operation for April 20th. The Council doesn't care about a bunch of people yelling and screaming. But a bunch of people yelling and screaming who then go out and swing an election away from the incumbents is something they will both notice AND be forced to act upon.

You have to threaten them where they live. Show them you can boo and hiss and they will ignore you. Show them you can win an election and they will fear you. And maybe things will start to change around here.



PS -- The winning candidates last year each got less than 3000 votes.

A Jersey City man was stabbed while taking out the trash from his Greenville home early yesterday morning, not far from where two men were shot dead last week, police said.

The 34-year-old Woodlawn Avenue man told police he was taking the garbage out at 1:20 a.m. when a man approached him saying "Who you looking at, (expletive)?" reports said.

The man took a swing at him, punching him in the left upper arm before running away, reports said. It was only then that the victim felt a sharp pain in the area of his right triceps and saw blood running from a wound there, reports said.

The victim went to the Jersey City Medical Center, where doctors said he had a 1-inch puncture wound, reports said. Police went to the Medical Center and spoke to the victim, who was listed in stable condition, reports said.

On Feb. 2, Mileak Richardson and Lester Thompson were found shot dead on Woodlawn Avenue about a block from yesterday morning's stabbing incident.

the people who try to paint the rosy picture of what JC used to be are a tad delusional. it's always been gritty, rough, working-class, and full of corruption in government. as much as some people around here would like to try and portray it as a new phenomenon, it is NOT a new thing. does that make it right? of course not, and i'm not saying it should be ignored.

as a few people have mentioned, downtown does have tons more short-term types who may not care about the process. jersey city is such a huge city, and the concerns of all the other wards are so different than downtown's concerns, that it should be easy to see why some old-timers get cranky at the demands of the downtowners. and even though lots of people on this list hate the current administration, the bottom line is, they were voted into office. period. if you want to vote them out, go for it, but it takes people getting involved, and not just yelling at each other on a message board.

having said all that, we love it here. we looked in the suburbs years ago when we were stopping renting and looking to buy... sure, we would've loved to move to Montclair, but we couldnt afford those taxes (which are still worse than ours), and the commute would've been twice as long. our neighborhood was pretty sketchy when we moved in, but the police were great (and other departments in the city), and through active people on our block, we got rid of the scumbags, drug dealers and gangsters. easy? no. scary? at times. worth it for everyone to try and stick through it? not necessarily. my wife and i are both pretty stubborn, and we weren't going to let scumbags ruin our life. our neighbors who moved in shortly after us, couldn't take it and left.

would we like things to be better here? of course, which is why we participate in the voting process, and community activities. and i would love if someone like mike bloomberg came to run the place...

your jersey city can be great if you make it that way!

Police and homicide investigators have crowded onto Woodlawn Avenue in Jersey City where two men were reportedly shot and killed early Tuesday morning.

A man told police he saw two men lying on the ground just after 3 a.m. near Ocean Avenue. There are reports two other people ran from the scene.

Fox 5 News was at the crime scene where grieving relatives of one of the allleged victims consoled one another.
