There actually WAS an internet in the 1980's.
The internet was a catalyst for change. We now seem to live in a world that George Orwell predicted in his novel, ?1984.

From Wikipedia: History of the Internet

The history of the Internet began with the development of electronic computers in the 1950s. The first message was sent over the ARPANet, which evolved into the internet, from computer science Professor Leonard Kleinrock's laboratory at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), after the second piece of network equipment was installed at Stanford Research Institute (SRI). Packet switched networks such as ARPANET, Mark I at NPL in the UK, CYCLADES, Merit Network, Tymnet, and Telenet, were developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s using a variety of protocols. The ARPANET in particular led to the development of protocols for internetworking, in which multiple separate networks could be joined together into a network of networks.

In 1982, the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) was standardized, and consequently, the concept of a world-wide network of interconnected TCP/IP networks, called the Internet, was introduced. Access to the ARPANET was expanded in 1981 when the National Science Foundation (NSF) developed the Computer Science Network (CSNET) and again in 1986 when NSFNET provided access to supercomputer sites in the United States from research and education organizations. Commercial Internet service providers (ISPs) began to emerge in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The ARPANET was decommissioned in 1990. The Internet was commercialized in 1995 when NSFNET was decommissioned, removing the last restrictions on the use of the Internet to carry commercial traffic.

Since the mid-1990s, the Internet has had a revolutionary impact on culture and commerce, including the rise of near-instant communication by electronic mail, instant messaging, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) "phone calls", two-way interactive video calls, and the World Wide Web with its discussion forums, blogs, social networking, and online shopping sites. The research and education community continues to develop and use advanced networks such as NSF's very high speed Backbone Network Service (vBNS), Internet2, and National LambdaRail. Increasing amounts of data are transmitted at higher and higher speeds over fiber optic networks operating at 1-Gbit/s, 10-Gbit/s, or more. The Internet's takeover of the global communication landscape was almost instant in historical terms: it only communicated 1% of the information flowing through two-way telecommunications networks in the year 1993, already 51% by 2000, and more than 97% of the telecommunicated information by 2007.[1] Today the Internet continues to grow, driven by ever greater amounts of online information, commerce, entertainment, and social networking.

*"Orwellian" is an adjective describing the situation, idea, or societal condition that George Orwell identified as being destructive to the welfare of a free and open society. It connotes an attitude and a brutal policy of draconian control by propaganda, surveillance, misinformation, denial of truth, and manipulation of the past, including the "unperson" ? a person whose past existence is expunged from the public record and memory, practiced by modern repressive governments. Often, this includes the circumstances depicted in his novels, particularly Nineteen Eighty-Four.[1]

It never ceases to amaze me how user 1111 is always the first to jump in to.be critical of others. He/ she must be perfect. In my defense, I have never seen Teddy; and the "Pimp" was pointed out to me by my girlfriend. I had no idea that his real name was "the Pimp" it's not how people talk where I come from. Therefore, when people were talking about Teddy and."the Pimp" in the same thread I assumed they were the same person. So, for user 1111 and his buddy 12345 to then jump in and compare me with the moronic TV Hollywood reporter who confused two very famous African-American actors is more than damn insulting to me. You do like to stir it up don't you? Please explain to your two friends that YOU thought that I thought they were the same person.

I wouldn't have to think twice about giving money to a guy in a pastel MINK coat who is comes on the train saying, "Hi, my name is Teddy. I?m from the Bergen-Lafayette coalition to feed the homeless. We are riding the trains tonight until midnight to try and collect money to help feed the homeless. Right now the shelter is very low on food to feed the homeless. We are in need of soup, milk, bread, and juice to help feed the homeless women and children. Anything you can give would help, god bless." If he really was concerned and actually gave a rat's arse about the poor, perhaps he should sell his mink coat to help raise the funds. If you want to help the poor, give it to the least corrupt organization that uses most of the funds to actually help the poor and not line the administrator's pockets; especially pink pockets.

Good for Cory Booker! Too bad our mayor couldn't persuade Whole Foods to come to JC. I won't be jackarsing to Newark. JC won't EVER get a decent food store.

That comes out to $10,000. per plant!!! It's a shame Sakina, who likes to grow plants so much, didn't move to Colorado. It would have been way cheaper and way more profitable for her.

Will the coalition provide a clay studio? Otherwise I'm wondering how I can sneak a 2500 lb gas-fired kiln into my third floor walk-up apartment. Also?I'm hoping I can get some volunteers to help carry all the pieces of the kiln up the stairs.

FANTASTIC! Just what JC needs? ANOTHER pizza place!
God forbid we have some heathy alternatives. We don't have Fairway or Whole Foods or Kings or Trader Joes but we do have pizza "joints" and plenty of mediocre places to get fat in. Good job! Time to celebrate bitches!

That's right Amanda, don't say anything. We should all sit back and be victimized by these filthy "folks". I find it so amazing how some people get offended by the people who are offended by the dog poo. It says a lot about the people who defend the perps.

Not to seem too unkind but I'd like to know what he was drinking? I'd like to have some of that in case I ever go into labor; I hear that is rather painful. I wonder if that would count as a natural delivery? I don't normally drink but apparently it is a legal painkiller!

Re: PATH Train Robbery

@corybraiterman...please don't accuse me or lump me with anyone else.; I don't appreciate it.
Just because someone is arrested, it doesn't mean that there will be any justice for the victims.
My space was burglarized and everything I owned was stolen. It was done by a gang of guys who eventually were arrested. They spent time in jail and then went on to continue their favorite activity.
I had no insurance. All of my jewelry, antiques, household items, etc had been sold by the gang. I got no justice. I was just lucky that I hadn't been physically injured like the passengers on the PATH train. I was emotionally battered knowing how the justice system doesn't work for the victims. I don't want revenge, I foolishly still yearn for a decent society.

Outrageous behaviour! Why is it whenever there is an incident like this ,it is always multiple young persons on one single person?? Whenever it's a single person who kills another person, they always use a weapon but if it's beating, these cowards need to gang up. And..because of their age...they get off scott free!
I am so effing sick of even hearing about these lowlifes.
They should be publicly beaten along with their neglectful parents.

Exactly how does the title of the article relate to it???
If 80% of the crimes go unsolved perhaps they should be encouraging people to start snitching on people . The title should have read, "Stop Stop Snitchin"
The article should have explained about Stop Snitchin'
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Snitchin%27.
People need to take their lives back and stop being afraid of the filthy punks who terrorize neighborhoods.

lolo, you are way too forgiving. There is NO excuse for anyone to throw a baby away in the trash. There are so many other options available. You have several months to decide whether you want to keep the baby or have an abortion or... you could put the baby up for adoption.
As a new mother, lolo, aren't you appalled that someone would wait 9 months and THEN try to kill their baby. I am. I have no sympathy for this crazy excuse for a human. There is no excuse for her lack of humanity. Poor child. I hope he never finds out that his own mother wanted him dead.
