r_pinkowitz and loopy love the changes!

Wow, all those people were killed and we heard nothing. I guess the same cover-up happened in Paterson because the same rumor was going around there as well. They really had a lot of covering up to do. I am not saying that gang intiation isn't real, but come on. Every year it's the same rumor. I have heard it in JC, Paterson, Washington Heights, Brooklyn, and surprisingly enough Rochester. It's a Halloween myth, much like the boogieman.

Wow! Those are some nice apartments. I cannot even imagine living in a place that nice. It reminded me of a room with no specific purpose that my aunt would never let us go into when we were younger.

I have been a victim of such horrendous train service but on an uptown A train a few years ago. I feel for everyone on that train because it is really a terrible experience. Not only the mix of no air, and people packed like sardines, but no explanation as for why this is happening.

There are many people who could be labeled as "slow," or "impulsive," it doesn't mean that they didn't know what they were doing. I disagree with taking a year off because of that.

Hipsters are harmless, but from my experience it's more the attitude then the appearance thats bothersome. I have friends that are hipsters and just talking to them can be a bit annoying. Their cool and know everything attitude can be a bit much. But to each his own, I just find it funny.

I know and it sucks! Most people were helpful, but some not so much. Assuming you are "sheltered" because you express concern over others and over neighborhood safety is stupid and petty. I appreciate your topic and your concern.

Welcome to JC! I would read the signs again, I have never had that problem, but I have heard that people sometimes get more then one ticket during street cleaning. You could ask your neighbors as well. Good luck!

Whenever people approach the car without warning it's a bit scary. They really catch you off guard. I doubt DD would do anything, but it wouldn't hurt to mention it.

It is a mess! Can't the police get the DYFS involved if the parents aren't staying home with their underage children?

You are right, it is a mess. They could try to get the DYFS involved, but it is quite a process. The caseworkers at the DYFS have so many cases, they have a hard time keeping up. If parents are not staying home with their children because of a variety of reasons the children are then left to fend for themselves. It's a vicious cycle being that these kids may or may not grow up to do the same thing. I agree that more police in these areas is something needed, but I feel that the families and communities need to play an even bigger role.

Re: Maniac drivers who speed through crosswalks (and stop signs)
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

Ever since I have lived in JC, there has been issues with traffic and jaywalking. I know as a driver that I need to be careful of pedestrians. I know as a pedestrian that I need to be careful of drivers. Today I saw something that really bothered me. On Newark Avenue a woman holding the hand of her young child (maybe 4 or 5) was in such a hurry that she walked right into traffic. Not in a crosswalk, or at a light but right while cars are driving around 30mph. The car had to stop very suddenly and the car behind just barely missed him. The little girl had such a scared look on her face, and the mother gave the driver the finger. I encounter this a lot in JC and Paterson (where I work), but today it shook me up just because it was so close. I just want people with children to be more careful, at least use th crosswalk, or cross at a light, or just wait until there are no cars coming. Geez, what a drive home.

Re: Jury Duty

Just can't stay away

From my one time experience it was just time consuming. I went in when called, stayed all day (until 3pm), and then they let us out but told us to come back tomorrow. I then went back the next day for about two hours and then they let the people who had been there the previous day out. I never served, but just sat around. My advice to you is bring something to occupy yourself, a book or work of some kind. This was in NY, but I am pretty sure NJ may be the same.
