IIRC, hazardous materials require special cars with very visible signage. as these didn't have it, they're in the clear as far as that goes.

Calling Talde's a Filipino place to eat at is disingenuous at best. Their menu is a pan-Asian mish mosh of everywhere with one dish on the menu that is labeled as Filipino.

been to LB multiple times, HP only once so far. LP is up and down, but while both have their downs, LB at least had some very big ups. this brisket sandwich i had from them last summer beats the tar out of the meal i had at HP:

I can tell you very specifically that the resin in silestone will bubble/crack under repeated heat stress.

Seriously? $192/ square foot? Sheesh-

yea i'm curious about that myself. the most expensive quartz they have is just shy of $100/sq ft. with installation. a beveled edge is what.... $15? let's say 20 a linear foot. that shouldn't be more than $1560.

maybe they typo'd a 1 with a 2?

Your best options for resale are, as mentioned, quartz or granite. The differences between the two are generally negligible and come down to visual preference. Quartz is actually made up of 7 percent resin, so repeated exposure to heat in the same spot WILL discolor and damage it. Once or twice? No problem. Repeated = cracks and bubbles.

For personal use, get what you like. Some of the super compact materials come with things like a 25 year warranty and are basically indestructible. But you may not like the look of them. They often have a satin finish, instead of gloss. Again, personal preference.

You can get something fashionable, like... retro avocado appliances, or go with some counter that more people will like - white, black, beige, gray etc. Granite and quartz are both fairly cheap. Home depot has stuff at like $50/sq foot installed

ah HA! Finally, some clarification! Amazing how much trouble we'd have had if this information had been stated with the OP.

Here's a screenshot of the properties involved:

OK, so they want to build... what, exactly? That's a nice sized yard, maybe 30 feet to the property line of the old Texaco station. Are they tearing down the building and doing a new one? Adding a second building in that yard accessible through the basement?

Details are required here imo

My fault, I was confused. I thought it was the new condo that had just been built on 5th St, but that turns out to be just up the block. 370-something. If you pan to the left on your link, you can see the back of that building, which was what I was referring to.

Honestly, I had no idea that was a 5th St address even lol.

Sorry again.

Back on the subject, I agree with Lima - your balcony was gonna lose its view the moment anything went up, regardless of height.

I walked by this today, and I'm curious about something. The only balconies are the tiny, mini balcony-ettes that are less than 2-ft wide in the front of the building.

Let me repeat that, you have balconies on the north-facing, street side of 5th street.

How is any development taking away these balconies and your light?

Are you referring to the lot on Newark behind your backyard? Because there are no balconies back there, just windows. Nice big windows that give you light, sure, but they aren't balconies. Also you have a backyard to get in some light regardless of a 5-story building that goes past your backyard.

Re: Hamilton PORK

i went yesterday in the early evening and... it wasn't bad, but nothing phenomenal.

I had the brisket, which was better than average, but not the best by any means. My order had 4 somewhat thick slices of lukewarm meat and 3 sandwich chip pickles that were completely unremarkable - they could've come straight from a jar for all i could tell. That's it. Not a carb to be found outside of the BBQ sauce on the table, which had a kind of weird taste to it. Not bad, and it went well with the brisket, but had an unfamiliar taste to it. Kinda sweet like a cherry.

The lack of a piece of bread made me order the only bread-like thing on the menu, which was the corn pudding. It's basically a really soft baked corn muffin/cornbread with chunks of corn in it.

The brisket, piece of cornbread and a drink came to $22.47. Upped that to 26 for a tip.

Suffice it to say I probably won't be going back for a while. It's not awful, but I expect a lot better food or a lot more bbq at that price point.

Seems that the CBS article has the area wrong. 400 Pavonia is down near Hamilton Park, but the other parts of both articles indicate it's on the other half of that avenue past Newark Ave. Hell, what's that neighborhood even called? Mill Creek? It's too far from JSQ for it to be labeled there...

The brisket at dinosaur isn't that good. Their wings are outstanding (wango tango sauce), the ribs are pretty good, the shrimp boil is a must have and if they have the salted potatoes special, get it.

Re: Two Boots Pizza

OK, so where does the line of demarcation end? Clearly you're not going with proximity, so where's the end point of what cities are large enough to permit this? And at what times? The much larger grouping of trucks and carts are there at prime lunch hours in a business district every weekday (and presumably some on a weekend). Compare that to a twice-a-week afternoon/evening in a mixed business/residential location.

I think the comparison stands (why am I arguing reasonably with a troll account again?) due to the time, length and your arbitrary endpoint of 'major'.

You do realize that this is exactly what happens in a number of cities, yes? Including NYC. There's a whole row of them across the street from my friend's office on I believe W 46th. Like 8 trucks. There are numerous eating establishments on that block. If they can somehow coexist, then I'm pretty sure a few eateries here can, too.

Are you seriously comparing midtown Manhattan to Grove street??? yeah the food trucks work in major cities without affecting the restaurants because they also have WAY more people. This is a laughable comparison.

Kraverie is a touch far, but doable. Mantra is a nice enough place. Markers is surprisingly decent, altho the atmosphere is more power lunch than romantic date spot. Directly there on the waterfront, however. Teppan ain't bad, either.

Re: Should PATH add Marion Station?
Home away from home
Home away from home

More stations are generally a good thing, and Marion is a cheap fix, as it's on an existing line. It would reduce crowding in journal Sq (such as crowding ever exists there), but not on the train itself. The gentleman (-woman) is correct in that it would add more people onto the trains, which is an issue we don't want at the moment.

However, the added capacity issue is - at least last I checked - being addressed slowly in the planned expansion of platforms. I know that Grove St is not at max capacity for length of trains... anyone getting out from the last car could tell you that. There is definitely room for at least one more car at that station. I don't know about the rest, but to my knowledge, all of the train stations on the NWK-WTC line are capable right now of adding another car to it. Not sure why they haven't, but that's the PA for you.

Honestly what I'd like to see is a north-south line in JC along the more western side of town. Something from say Bayonne Park up somewhere around JFK north to Union City. That would be a huge addition to the public transportation in this and surrounding towns and would cut the traffic down immensely on that half of the city. However, that's obviously an enormous pipe dream that would never come to fruition because reasons.

Re: el sazon de las americas

kinda torn. i like their food on some levels (great, cheap island-hispanic), but doing illegal gas-line work is fuk'd up. a friend of mine lived next door to that explosion on the LES, but was fortunately out of town when that happened.

how many of us know someone who lives or works on that block? now imagine that entire area as a crater because they screwed up the way those jackasses did. sketchy food - as long as it isn't making people sick - is possible to overlook on a lot of levels.

doing something that threatens the lives of hundreds of people immediately is a bit harder. sazon is probably gonna go on a sad, but growing list of local places i won't be giving money to because of various reasons. personally, i'll let this play out, but when i have a hankering for cheap dominican, i'll just go to quisqueya on bright in the meantime.
