Re: Another Bogus Ticket

I don't understand the excitement ---- the opening post reads that it was a warning and not an actual summons with a fine.

Take the warning for its designated purpose ---- which in your case means making sure your neighbor's sh*t stays as far away from your property line as possible, so as to hopefully avoid this in the future. These are the perils of living in close proximity. I've had to move my neighbor's crap more times than I can recount.

Re/ the website ---- I love it !!

Re/ the key along the door --- charming in theory, but I'm not the passive-agressive type! If I have a genuine beef with someone, my first step is to go right to their front door if it comes to that.

Be careful in general though because, as you say, this can be because of vehicles coming and going.

Don't be naive. Coming out to "readjust" after an adjacent car leaves is as intentional as it gets. He's notorious on this block (for the parking, as well as for dumping his trash in front of other people's houses late at night).

In all fairness, as other cars come and go, someone who has actually parked correctly and considerately can end up looking like they f*cked up or intentionally took two spots. So, not all cases are intentionally inconsiderate parking.

But, you're absolutely right ---- there are many, many who do it intentionally either just to be a jerk or because God forbid some other car should come to close to their vehicle.

I have a guy on my block who does this very thing --- he'll come home and park himself smack-dab in the middle of an open space that is easily 2+ cars long. I know it's intentional because even when he's forced to park "normally" and a car in front of him or behind him leaves, he'll actually come out of the house and move his car a half-space (forward or back) to regain his buffer zone.

He's such a colossal a**hole that I would actually post his address, but anyone on my block who knows who I am certainly also knows who I'm talking about.

For qualified answers, you really need to be much more specific about what your intentions are.

Are you changing it from single to multi-family or vice-versa? Are you adding on more space or just gut-rehabbing what's there? Do you know what historical district (if any) you fall in? Do you plan on maintaining one floor to live on while the rest is gutted or will the place be empty for the entire process?

There are lots of threads on these matters.

Nooooooo! Shutting down that fine establishment? Don't even think of it.

What we do without the convoy of blaring bass-lines after closing time (early Sunday morning) when they all come up Jersey Avenue and go back to wherever the hell it is they come from?

It's like a little Puerto Rican Day parade every week, except without all the flags. Oh wait ---- now that I think about it, some of the cars have them permanently mounted anyway.

I guess Healy thinks if he comes out early in full support and if indeed Obama wins the presidency, he'll be appointed Secretary of State or something. Could you imagine?

Director of ALCOHOL, Tabacco, and Firearms would be more like it.

You are correct in your observation, NNJR ---- and clearly jckid has no idea what he/she is talking about.

There is no public servant pension plan that isn't partially-funded by taxpayer dollars (whether those funds be on the municipal, county, state, etc, levels). Also, this is to say nothing of the costs of lifelong health coverage for a civil servant retiree and his/her family (which is often the largest of the partially taxpayer-funded expenses).

Most civil servants are, of course, deserving of such packages, since many admirably do the jobs we don't want to do. However, characters like this ex-cop deserve nothing.

2nd quarter property taxes

Has anyone received their 2nd quarter property tax bills yet? May 1 is typically the due date.

Every year, the 1st and 2nd quarter "detach and remit" coupons are usually sent in the same document, but not in '07. The 1st quarter tax bill came solo.

I guess I'll take a walk to 280 Grove with a checkbook in hand, unless anyone knows what the story is.

Thanks.

It's sobering to think that he is only one of many, many JCPD members (present or recent past) who are in dire need of mental and psychological help.

Parkman is partially right as far as Air-A-Ton is concerned.

Only Eric and his father (the co-proprietors) and maybe Victor (their lead installer) go to certification programs. The rest of the guys --- many of which are simply employed there by virtue of being their relatives --- are dimwits.

I have used Air-A-Ton on two different (and pretty big) projects, and they are outright unreliable on honoring appointments and doing things in the proper pecking order. On one job, my wife and I had to actually do some of the HVAC work ourselves because they were more than a week overdue in showing up to do it as promised, and thus my drywallers were being held up from closing the walls as a result.

Before that debacle, I had regrettably already referred Air-A-Ton to my next door neighbor (who is an accomplished architect and thus more knowledgable than most on HVAC systems), and he had a worse time than I.

The problem is that Unico (and maybe Luxaire too) offers exclusive territories, and so Air-A-Ton was the "only game in town" if you wanted that particular system. My neighbor ultimately pitched a fit directly with Unico HQ and basically said "your territory rep sucks.....give me the name of the next closest installer or you can yank your partially-installed system out of here." He got the result he wanted, because some other designated outfit completed the job that Air-A-Ton started.

I never want them on any of my properties or projects again --- so much so that I GLADLY paid a little more for a service plan from another designated dealer of those same HVAC systems, just to not have to deal with Air-A-Ton again.

Hey Brewster.....good call on NickL. About a year ago, I was unloading one of my Ogden Avenue rental properties at a very reasonable starting price point (already gut-renovated, by the way), and I corresponded privately with this kid endlessly. For all of time he spends venting about how expensive and prohibitive the market is here, one wonders why he's still looking here.

For what little it's worth, I got my asking price, and the other condo in the building that was virtual twin of mine sold for 15% more only nine months later. Another great JC investment that NickL let pass by because he'd rather vent.

Sometimes you just can't help these people.

Re: Assault/wilding incident on 9th and Erie
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

Sam, et al........

I have no doubt this is the same set of delinquents that I chased away (twice) from Jersey Avenue between 7th and 8th........once around 8:45 and again at about 9:15 or so.

I suspect the piece of pipe used in the assault was part of broken table pieces (of all things) that they had been carrying around. God only knows where in the neighborhood it came from before they dismantled it, but one was clearly holding a small table top piece, and two others were carrying metal leg assemblies. Actually, what had gotten my attention orginally was their loud yelling and laughter as they were scattering all over the sidewalk those newspaper/flier bundles that get left on doorsteps.

So, assuming it's the same bunch (early teens, about seven of them), it seems I caught them on their way to and on their way from the incident at 9th and Erie. If I can provide any help in this, email me at: dhanlon101@hotmail.com

I take no joy in saying that if one of them had a swung that pipe at me, I'd be in Hudson County Correctional right now. I don't care what their ages (and I'd gladly fight it out in court), but if someone swings a potentially lethal object, it's open season.

Reach out to me if the evening's events need another voice.

There has also been a JC cruiser stationed at the on-ramp to 1/9/NJTP for quite some time now. This is also a construction site.

Just to keep it real, this particular location is not a construction site in the way that's being debated. This is not the project of a private developer/contractor.......this is the State of New Jersey's prep work for the reconfiguration of Route 139 ("state highway") and the 1/9 approach to the tunnel.

Anyway, onto the point of reviving this issue.......I came by that way today at about 5PM, as I do most days. The traffic was quite sluggish approaching Palisade Avenue, as one would expect at rush hour. Anyway, the stand-still time in traffic gave me the opportunity to clearly see the fearful JC police officer (in a marked JCPD car) absolutely, positively taking a nap!!

I shit you not.....the dude was out like a light. I don't care who's paying in this particular case.......a state-subsidized subcontractor for roads, the state itself, or the good taxpayers of Jersey City........somebody is getting ripped off!

Re: The Guardian Angels are Coming

Just can't stay away

I think I just had my first sighting also.....in front of Walt's at 8th and Jersey.

Except this guy was wearing blue jacket and blue beret, and I thought it was a signature red that they wore. I don't know....maybe it's just Curtis who wears the red.

Anyway, someone (who knows) please tell us how long this is supposed to last. I'll gladly spread the word among the Guardian Angels I see in the Hamilton Park area that they can ring my doorbell up until midnight for coffee, danish, soup, or whatever. Somebody fill us in.

By the way, I think this is friggin' awesome, and we're very fortunate to have this happen.

Re: towing at shoprite?
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

I know it used to be the case (and can't see why it still wouldn't be).........

The towing guy who has "the contract" for that parking lot is Danny's Towing out by Division Street near the gym.

I'm around Hamilton Park at all sorts of random times, and you can see him multiple times a day going out 8th Street with a car and coming back out 7th Street empty and on his way to hook the next victim. It's the same route over and over again, so it's a good bet that the cars are all coming from the same place.

It would be interesting to know what kind of arrangement he has in order to have the market exclsuively cornered on that parking lot. The guy must make a mint (assuming it's still his racket, which I'm sure it is).

I dealt with him one time years ago for a private tow. I think he's sort of a tool.
