Re: C-Town Being Sold

Exactly. TJ's does pay more and does more training - thus they get much more of my business. But I think if we begin to get into issues of work ethics and such here we risk going waaay off topic regarding service in relation to the C-Town! I'll will just say that all people should try to do well in whatever job they have. Just because Shop Rite's hourly rate is probably below TJ's rate ( and certainly below Wegmans!) that is not cause for an employee to be terrible at his/her job.

I don't care if one works in Times Square, Jersey City, West Palm Beach, 5th Avenue, or Palm Springs. It does not matter! To say that terrible surly service is to be expected in Shop Rite is absurd. I shall not - I will not- return to that store. I think that they may perhaps have a class for their employees on how to be awful. Very true comments about the express checkouts there - the last few times I went into that store there was always some type of issue on the express checkout - and it seemed to me that the employees would take some sort of 'glee' in being really really slow. I will not give them any of my business.

We walked by the hill yesterday. What a stupid stupid idea this was. At least one can walk around the hill to see the view, but this whole thing is really stupid.

Joke JCnight. People have been joking here for years about a Wegmans, Whole Foods, or TJ's coming to Jersey City. It certainly would be smart for one of them to seize on the opportunity. Perhaps one day in the future. Wegmans is now concentrating on expanding in Maryland/Virginia and now near Boston with two stores to open in 2011. ( I worked with Wegmans for 6 years before joining my partner's business in the city). They were fantastic to work for!

I heard Wegmans will be here soon!

I avoid Shop Rite at all costs. I gave it several tries but the folks that have to work there are just beyond rude. I've come out of that store so very depressed. Wish Shop Rite would offer their employees some type of minimal customer service training. It really is beyond words to describe sometimes. The seafood there looks like it has been sitting there for a week. I have no problem with the A&P but yes, that Lower Price Project is a joke. I do most of my shopping at Wegmans in Woodbridge. And for those that will chide " to drive an hour round trip to shop is crazy" I say no it ain't! 30 minutes in the car to get to a store with fantastic fresh food at low prices? No problem! I love Trader Joe's also. One can get great items at low prices. Someone earlier said that Trader's was expensive? Sounds like they don't shop there. Silly. I've never set foot in that C-Town - I've never had the need.

C-town's milk is fresher than A&P's? Woah! I'm a mean crazy cranky guy without my cheerio's every morning and to me A&P's milk is always the freshest. I actually just bought a new gallon yesterday and the expiration date on it is 9-14. I've never set foot into C-town - although I pass it a lot on my way to the Brownstone. I cannot imagine that the C-town milk is fresher than the A&P. I must go check you out on this! For the record Shop Rite's milk always begins to turn a tad sour before the expiration date.

Re: The Hamilton Inn

Went again this past Sunday night. I ordered a dinner salad and salmon for dinner - my partner ordered a large dinner salad. Wine arrived and was very warm. ( Wine on past visits has been great!). Sat. Continued to sit. I was really hungry and I could taste that wonderful bread that they serve with the olive oil. Sat some more. Server brings out two salads - correct salad for my partner - I get a salad with salmon on it. I note the error ( no big deal - we all make them in life). Server kinda tells me that's what I ordered! I correct him - he continues to tell me 'well that's what I heard'. I tell him he made an error. He tells me a second time "that's what I heard". I explain to him nicely " I'm afraid you heard incorrectly". He says ok - and then I ask him for some of the wonderful bread and oil that is served. He tells me they ran out. I tell him that I was really looking forward to it. He tells me he will try to 'scrounge something up'. There was none. So - okay - okay - we really like this place, but just not this time! So I eat the small dinner salad as my partner eats his dinner salad- then I sat and ate the salmon. We got a teeny tiny sliver of Key Lime pie to go for the mistake. We still really like this place though - the atmosphere and the food ( yes, it is a tad overpriced, but it is good and we love the location). So - we will be back. We all can have a bad day. Hey Hamilton - don't run out of bread on Sundays by 7pm please!

Really fauxboken? This is the worst kind of thread? No. This topic is very important. Fast flashing neon lights may look great in Vegas and appeal to that type of person - but not here in our neighborhood. It looks very silly. They did change the light rotation last night I noticed. The color would stay constant for a bit - then slowly change - and then all of a sudden all of the colors did their fast maddening change all at once! Many small blocks of color flashing all at the same time! Complete madness!!

Anybody else notice the new colorful neon lights that flash/change so fast on top of the Trump Condo building? I mean, really - it would look better if the colors did not change at lightning speed. I noticed this for the first time last night. Reminds me of my disco dance days of the early 80's!

Too funny! Ah have times changed for sure. A group of Moms where they have to pay money to socialize. When I was a kid we (all the kids in the neighborhood) just played together and that's how our Moms met each other. As with almost everything else in this modern life things have gotten so complicated! Sad! Now all you so called 'modern-age' Moms post back now and blast me for making this very simple observation.

I've never had a latte. I just drink regular coffee. Yes, aside from dangerous situations involving physical danger you are correct. I think I tried to say this by bringing in my comment about shooting a gun. I just think that it was a very broad statement made and very insulting to everyone else that works very hard in their careers.

" Also, being a good cop is indeed a tough job at times and being good at it requires a level of diplomacy, restraint, and quick thinking most people don't have" - Jeebus. Really? Only good police officers have these job skills? Most other careers do not require these traits?? Really? Other than shooting a gun at people I do all of this each and every day at my job!

Yes policemen make good money. I have one uncle and four cousins that were/are policemen in Staten Island. They receive fantastic benefits/pensions and have done/do a great job. Me? A policeman? Nope. I could not even begin to imagine. I would be bored out of my mind most of the time and scared to death at other times. That's not the career for me - no matter how wonderful the pay & benefits could be. Different strokes for different folks. I think that everyone could make an initial post about their career here - just like this first guy did. I'm not sure why, but we all could!

I have to agree that it is really kinda stupid to go protest a local gas station - or to throw paint onto the signs of a local gas station. Yes a big catastrophe has occured - yup. And....we are all still dependant on oil to live. Many of us must get into our cars and drive off to work each day. Yup. Is this not the American way of life? How can the normal 'little person' try to change things? By throwing paint onto signs? Stupid.

Yeah I sort of knew when I made my initial post that these would be the types of responses that would be received - typical of JC list. Yet still I'm just stating my opinion here. And I've not met Mr. Rivo in person. Someone also mentions another topic of 'community leaders'. I tend to be a tad circumspect of such general titles that are handed out to people so freely these days. I've also met such marvelous self-proclaimed 'leaders' in the past few years - folks that gather so many accolades without doing the really hard work. But this certainly is a topic for another conversation. Mr. Rivos' accomplishments, which were stated earlier, certainly make him an asset to our community. Just wish that he took a different path on the show other than coming off as a total buffoon.

Yeah I'm afraid I did not find anything funny in his behavior on the show. I found the 'humor' to be forced and fake. It is certainly good to know that the man is not this way in real life. I'm just surprised that such an intelligent & accomplished neighbor would allow himself to be portrayed as a total buffoon. I suppose it's good that some folks here in Jersey City know 'the real person' - it is ashame that the rest of the country that has never met him may come away with a negative impression of him from viewing this show.

I love to watch House Hunters on HGTV but found this show to be a bore. Halfway through this show I felt like I had been watching like for two hours. Mr. & Mrs. Rivo really rubbed me the wrong way - Mr. Rivo really came across like a buffoon ( I suppose this was what he was going for - I wish him luck in his reality tv career hunt as stated in the news article). And it was ashame that most of the show was filmed in a store located in Hoboken!! On a positive note it was cool to see the streets of our neighborhood on tv - and I'm glad that the best couple won. But I gotta say - to be honest - I was thankful when the show ended.

Just returned from a lovely meal at the new Hamilton Inn. We are very happy. We live just across the street and now are very excited to have a very good restaurant right in our neighborhood. Congrats to Mike & Co. - we are certain you will do well here. We are looking forward to trying the many selections on your menu. Very very good! The atmosphere was fun and not overly loud - a very nice selection of music I must say. We loved it.

Re: Staten Island vs. Jersey City

I was born and raised in Staten Island - I'm a native NYC boy! I find these comparisons very silly really. I love JC & I love SI. I will say that I like my home in JC more right now because I work in the city - I take a quick walk through the mall to the Path and I find that I'm door to door in 25 minutes. Nowe if I lived on SI I'd have a longer commute on the ferry and trains. All of my cousins and Aunts and Uncles are still on SI - all have very nice homes in nice neighborhoods. One good thing about living in SI ( which is NYC) is that my relatives pay about a third in yearly real estate tax. Jersey is horrid with real estate taxes - still don't know where all that money goes. But I love my new loft and living here in JC.

After years of abuse from these people I've finally found a way to shut the mouths of those horrid face cream people that badger me 5 days a week on my way to work. Without breaking my stride and with a large smile I say " I'm terribly sorry - I only purchase face cream from Palestine." Finally, a way to just leave these horrid fools speechless!

Yes that was quite a smash last night - really sickening sound. One of the cars must have been going fast - the impact was incredible. My heart went through my chest as I heard it last night - just after the 11pm news started. I hope no one was critical from it - although they sure could be from the sound and the damage. A full light needs to be placed here at 10th & Erie - it is crazy that there is only a blinking light. What is the town waiting for - someone to die??

Re: ShopRite - the place where you feel safe!

Increasing your carbon footprint to drive 40 miles to shop? Wegmans is located in both Woodbridge and Bridgewater. Woodbridge is about 25 miles away. There is nothing wrong with taking a little ride perhaps on your day off to Central Jersey to both shop and perhaps enjoy other things too. The very best bumper sticker that I have ever seen said " Save The World...Kill Yourself!" I'll always remember it - I think it's great. I certainly do not waste things - but I am going to enjoy this life a bit also. I find some of this environmental stuff good - but a lot is a bunch of nonsense. So to the person that wrote about their carbon footprint - well - you walk to Shoprite. But don't make others feel guilty if they wish to take a drive to shop elsewhere. That's just being plain silly!! President Obama took his wife on a date to New York from Washington too. Where does one draw the line about their carbon footprint? Come on over to Wegmans, folks. You will not believe the wonderful customer service you will receive there!

Wegmans is cheaper than most chain food stores on many items - surprise if you did not know this!! One can save lots of money by shopping there. One can also find very expensive fancy items there also if they desire and can afford them. I should know - I've been working there now for 6 years and love it! The Shoprite is fine for certain things but of course the service is horrid. Shoprite does not train/pay their workers enough. You get what you pay for.
