Yeah really. I guess it's only news when it happens to a police car. I was nearly hit at the same intersection Thursday morning, though I was a pedestrian crossing Monmouth. A left-turning vehicle coming off Columbus gunned it while I was in the crosswalk. I literally kicked the vehicle as I jumped back.

Columbus Drive is dangerous, and it'll only get worse when it becomes a 6-lane highway. Monmouth is dangerous too. Cars seem to fly at 40-45 trying to make that light.

I'm glad the officers are alright but it makes you think. If a car can run a red light... t-bone a police car with 2 cops in it (and a radio) then speed off and at least, so far, get away with it...then what would happen if this happened to a regular old civilian in a car or a pedestrian for that matter? Seems to me the perp would probably never get caught. Scary!

It's listed as a 2 bedroom though. I still would think the location would merit a higher price.

Check this out! Isn't the price a little low being that it has a parking spot and is located across from Hamilton Park? Are they trying to start a bidding war or is the market THAT bad!

I want to do something about this because if people can't be responsible neighbors then they shouldn't live in a nice place, and it's the community's disregard of this matter that makes neighborhoods UGLY, turning them into ghetto's.

Seriously the property values are way too inflated in the neighborhood to walk outside and step on dog shit. I've seen individual owners take matters into their own hands, but as a whole the community isn't doing anything at all!

Action needs to be taken ASAP!

What do you suggest? People not picking up after their dogs AND not walking them on a leash piss me off and I am a dog owner!

You would think the employees of the JCPA and the JCPD would choose to park appropriately and lead by example. I've always wondered why they don't get this concept.

If the pitbulls were legally unleashed in a yard and escaped why is wibbit saying this case isn't a accident and that the dog owner purposely chose not to leash them? The owner should def. be held accountable for not keeping a watchful eye on the dogs and for trusting the yard could keep them fenced in...but bring her up on attempted murder charges?!?

The issue of whether pitbull can be domestic pets with proper training/care is up for debate, and i do think euthanize all pitbull are unfair to responsible owners who take care of their dogs.

The real injustice here is the punishment of the dog owner, 2 summons for unleashed dog?!?! that's like giving a parking ticket for running over someone to close to death.

The woman should be brought up on attempted murder charges, throw in jail for a good part of her life, and never be allowed to own/care for another dog.

This isnt a case of accident, the woman purposely choose not to leash the pitbull and as a result almost killed the poor woman. Why should such disgusting irresponsible dog owners not be charged with a serious crime.

2 summons for unleashed dogs?! what a joke...

Purposely chose not to leash the pittbulls? The dogs escaped from her yard as the article says:
A 70-year-old woman was critically injured this morning when she was mauled by two pit bulls that had gotten loose from their Bayonne backyard, police said.

Does the law state that dogs are to be leashed when they are in a backyard?

Does this really matter? If the car has stopped and can see nobody is coming, why not go? Traffic lights are important at busy times, or where you cannot see approaching traffic. But at a quiet time of day or night, where you can see the other way, it can be safe, depending on the specifics of the individual juntion.

Robin.

Of course it matters...it's the law! You can't select when and where the law applies to you. Once you set this type of selective thinking in motion others will think in these terms and we all know not everyone has the best judgement. So laws should be obeyed across the board without special exception like...oh it was late and no cars were coming so I ran the red light on Newark and Brunswick.

Re: CCTV installation downtown

I think CCTV cameras are a good idea. I can't tell you how many times I see people run the red light on the corner of 4th and Newark/Brunswick late at night. I have seen people actually stop at the light and then run it when they feel no one is watching. My concern is will the police actually use the video taken from the cameras to enforce late night light runners or will the cameras just be used as a visual detterent...never really monitored only in the case of an accident. Alot of JC drivers late at night tend to be sneaks or reckless with their driving. I understand the point others have made about using that money for more cops but in reality JC won't make that happen. We def. need more cops though!!

I was in Hoboken Municipal Court yesterday contesting a ticket and one of the cases that came up before me was one similar to yours: someone hit a car and left the scene. The judge asked if the owner of the car that was hit was there to make a statement. The owner was not there, although they had received notice of the hearing. The city prosecutor recommended reducing the level of the offense, I don't remember to what, and the judge accepted it. I'm pretty sure the guy that did this got off with a lighter offense and fee because the owner of the car that was hit was not there.

If you're at all inclined to make sure that the person who hit your car gets what they deserve, I would suggest you attend their hearing.

Great suggestion Stani...the dishonesty of a hit and run deserves the full extent of the law to be applied!

Agreed. Just the other day, in broad daylight no less, two filthy scumbags were pissing on the side of the building adjacent to the park. No, not the vacant building, the one in which people actually live and make their home. When I called them out on it, he said the bathrooms were locked??

This park is going to look amazing, and add to the value of the neighboorhood..... for about a week or two. Then the savages from Indio's will destroy it. They will use it for their own personal toilet, and probably move their drug deals and prostitute appointments from the cars in front of the bar to the new park.

If this occurs then it is up to the residents who live near the park to help keep a watchful eye and call the police to deter these situations. I realize patrons of Indios are, at times, problems. I live around the corner from the Barge and have seen and heard many bad incidents. The residents have to be vigilant and report any problems, they have to be driven to make the area better and let evryone know that the area is being watched by neighbors who care!

Last night around 3:15am, a gray station wagon (maybe a saturn?) that was parked in front of the Barge Inn plowed into my car, a silver VW golf, pushing it up onto the sidewalk right in front of Frank's Famous Pizza and then took off.

According to my neighbor, he heard the crash, ran outside to see the driver's side of the car empty with a girl somewhat passed out in the passenger's seat. A man ran from the Barge Inn screaming at her, got into the driver's side and pulled away immediately. My neighbor was unable to make out the license plate.

Have you seen a car like this? The driver's side has to be decimated based on the damage of my car. We had to get it towed, and are pretty sure that there was damage to the axle because the rear tire was pretty much bent up onto the sidewalk because of the impact.

I'd appreciate any help because I think that people should be held accountable for their actions.

Frank and 3 Brothers pizza have cameras mounted outside their businesses...ask them to look at the videotapes. Go to Franks when he opens today and get the tape before he erases it!

The Barge Bar on Monmouth is in dire need of regulation like this. Fights, loitering and rowdy groups of thugs tend to hang out in front creating a rather intimidating situation for people walking down Monmouth. They act like they own the block, walk around outside with open alcohol containers and whoot and hollar untill 2-3am. The loitering and illegal activity in front of this bar must stop!!!

I agree with this 1000% They trash our neighborhoods and use our front stoops as dining areas/places to roll blunts. Monmouth St gets overrun by the linchtime crowds and a few large fights have broken out. The kids need to stay in school for lunch or smaller groups, more controlable
groups should be let out in a time staggered fashion.

Why don't you politely speak to your neighbors and ask them to stop dumping the garbage near your stoop. Explain to the when your regularly scheduled garbage pick up is and that it is illegal to dump garbage outside on any other night. Explain that there dumping will result in a fine for you and for them ...ask them to please stop. If they do not, snap a few pictures of them doing it and either tell them you are going to send in to the NID for them to be fined (if the don't stop) or just send the pics to the NID. You can also contact the JCIA and alert them to the problem and ask them what they can do. Stand up for yourself or you WILL be fined, don't give in. You have to be persistent and follow up will emails and phone calls after sending in the pics. Good luck!!!
