Prices seem to hold steady in downtown, the question is wether or not they sell. I tend to think that they don't. Inventory is very high at the moment, and when the several thousand units from grove pointe and the like come on line it will be even worse.

Overall, however, this mught not be such a bad thing. I would like more folks of my socio-economic level to have the ability to buy here, and perhaps keep some of our more sanely priced shopping options in existence. I'd hate it if every store front morphed into Zen Garage.

Regardless, the slowdown will likely be ancient history in 5 years or so. More people immigrate tot he New York area every year, and they ain't making any more land.

No, I never received a written or telephone response to any letters or email sent to former Councilman Maldonado. As posted on jclist in the past, while I found him accessible, during my two year tenure as Harsimus Cove Association president (calendar years 2003 and 2004), I never received a response, by letter, by email or by phone to letters or emails that I sent on behalf of HCA.

Since you are bringing this up, I never met or knew who you were until a November 2004 council meeting when you approached and offered me a complementary ticket to a political fundraiser.

In early 2005, I believe February, when I was no longer on the board of HCA, you called me out of the blue at my business and updated me on a whole range of issues. From this conversation resulted a difference of opinion regarding a meeting that you offered to set up with Councilman Maldonado on the Warehouse District / PAD.

In order to get a response from the councilman, I had to ask face to face.

My only non face to face communication was during some demo of 110 First Street, I was given his cell phone number by a neighbor too timid to call him on a Sunday. I called him and he had already been to the scene, also saying not to hesitate calling.

As I said, he was accessible, but no, never responded to written mail or email correspondence.

During my two years with Former Councilman Maldonado, there were numerous communications from you, to both the Councilman and/or myself and at all times one of us responded to you, either by phone, email or even getting into our cars to respond to a situation.
Your home and work number was on both of our cells phones because we spoke with you that many times. And, his office was always readily available to you and all other constituents.

Call me oversensitive, but the remark, "It's a little difficult to call the police on crime in your area when the criminals are from your family and are your nieghbors - " sounded mre than a little off base.

In any event, it's a little simplistic to say that there's more focus on cracking down on crime in downtown because other neighborhoods don't complain. Besides, even if that were the case which I don't believe it is, does that justify such action? I'm guessing another reason for the increased focus on downtown is as a result of Fulop. The 12 block from groove street area would be just as well off with no representation rather than Lipshitz.

Anyone know if the GA meeting is still on for today?

yes - you're oversensitive. i used to live in a crime ridden area of brooklyn back in the mid eighties. we put up with much more than i do now because if we called the cops, it would be possible that the dealers nearby would single us out as the guys who called. family members may not call cops cause their own family or friends might be peripherally singled out. it's basic fear of retribuition.

i didnt mean to insult you but i think you read more into it than was intended. i think MANY of you read more into the rabbit than intended, looking for a fight.

wasn't meant to insult anyone , but if you want to pick a fight, bring it on

Yeah Ace, like peeing and/or 'making doodie'.

Are you really this much of a brain surgeon, or is it how you try to get folks to somehow engage and interact with you socially?

You have to be one bored, lonely dude.

89% of your questions would be answered if you engaged your brain inwardly [e.g. thought, thinking, thought, thinking, rinse, repeat] instead of picking apart the minute details of other folks thoughts in some preschool attempt at being clever or irreverent.

I remember lots of people like you rabby, only thing is...

I remember making fun of them. Their [and your] entire mindset takes about 2.3 seconds to fully understand and from that point forward it's like a lunch @ Denny's...

Reheated, Rehashed and extremely Tired.

Chill out dude - get a FREAKING SENSE OF HUMOUR FOR ALLAH'S SAKE.

Can you find some other way to be "amusing" rather than insulting people? No answer required.

McG - i wasn't trying to be amusing here. just stating the case. why is the gentrified area getting attention? cause the people that live there NOW don't want to be live in a crime ridden area. other areas that are crime ridden also have law abiding citizens but they may fear calling the cops for a variety of reasons. all i was saying was squeaky wheel gets the grease.

so who was i insulting?

Call it playing the yuppie card (as you put it) or whatever. The fact is, downtown is only receiving this kind of attention because it's becoming gentrified. And I wonder what makes you think you know me so well and that I haven't complained about crime where I live, 12 blocks from groove street.

a: the GA weren't in JC 20 years ago cause they were too busy in the Bronx, Brooklyn and NYC

It could be my imagination, but it seems to me crime only became a "problem" in downtown as it became more gentrified. My guess is that it used to be a lot worse and it still is a lot worse in other areas of JC. Unfortunately for those citizens, they do not wield the political clout of downtowners. Why don't the GA patrol Communipaw and Duncan?

dude - they havent even gotten hear and already you're playing the 'yuppies get everything' card and complaining that they arent patrolling poorer areas. seems like people like you should have been complaining to past mayors about crime since it's obviously been a problem for a while. don't piss on the people who don't care to wallow in a crime infested area. JC has been complacent for so long. if it takes new blood to get some action and shake things up - why complain about it?

Local burglars take note. the place is only 2 stories high, has a roofdeck for easy access, is filled with expensive stuff and the area is rarely patrolled, being so close to bergen layfayette and the lovely lafayette village.

just cause he's foolish enough to renovate a $400,000 place so garishly doesnt mean he's gonna get his money back.

didnt we see this man already - naked on his porch? i could care less if he had his hair combed and his tie knotted. as a matter of fact - i would like him much better if he cleaned up the city more than he cleaned up himself. that would make him a topic for a Movie of the Week. Better yet - get him on Queer Eye and fire Liz Taylor's beautician. Besides I think Liz needs him back.

Check out this link: it turns out that downtown WAS a different town. it was called VAN VORST. Cornelius Van Vorst and others found the town in 1841 on the portion of land that had been settled in 1638. It was adjacent to the old Jersey City and extended south to the City Hall area. The town lasted ten years when it joined the municipality of Jersey City.

I think we secede and return to being Van Vorst, NJ.
