Re: Liberty Humane Society & Animal Control

I, for one. support LHS. It is an underfunded non profit. When I had to go into the hospital for three weeks they took my cats; no questions asked. They even gave them free shots. For that, I give them what I can.

The staff is very attentive to the animals' needs. Please keep in mind that they are a non-profit agency. I got my cat Alice from the JC SPCA. I am so happy she didn't suffer cruelty at the hands of the JC SPCA staff.

That said, I really think LHS should be given a shot at animal control. I think they'd do wonders if they are given city funds.

Edit: if not LHS then who else? The JC SPCA was a travesty. LHS could do such a better job if given the proper funding!

My guess would be that you don't know what an animal might do in that situation. Rather than shooting the non-aggressive one, the police chose to tranquilize it. Unfortunately it died.

I'm really glad it made the paper; even if it's the JJ.

Did other media cover this? I hope so!

I work 3pm-11pm. I wanted to be there tonight (but I HAVE to work to pay for my property taxes!).

I'll call in sick for the next rally.

::cough:: Sorry, I can't come in today. My property taxes are getting insanely high. ::cough::

And I KNOW this is an INSANELY simple idea, but did anyone bring up tax abatements and PILOT programs? Those of us who believed enough in JC and DIDN'T get tax abatements shouldn't have to pay extra to support the luxury high rises or the new office bulidings.

It's ridiculous that City Hall is STILL giving developers these abatements. JC City Hall has been corrupt for eons. It's about time we take a stand.

I told my co-worker what I pay in property taxes. He has a few acres in PA. He wanted to smack me.

I always considered Toms River/Seaside Heights the start of South Jersey.

My ex-boyfriend was in Toms River.

He had to drive 45 minutes to Red Bank for band practice. I consider the Red Bank area to be Mid Jersey.

My 2 cents (for what it's worth)

I took a cardio kickboxing class at JC TaeKwonDo. The owner taught the class. I'm a spazz so when I couldn't get the right moves he would come up to me and say, "follow me." I just got the feeling that he was very passionate about his martial arts; even when it was just a "dumb" cardio class.

There was a kids' class before my cardio class. I noticed how one-on-one it was; the teachers really cared. And I saw kids and parents leaving very happy.

Like I said, it's just my opinion. I just got a really good feeling about JC TaeKwonDo. Like I said, the owner is very passionate about his art: and his dojo.

And it's great to support a local place.

With the way the JC PO is run I'd be surprised if they didn't hire him to be a mail carrier.

I mentioned this incident to my boyfriend (we live on 8th b/w Jersey and Coles) and he said he noticed police officers walking in the neighborhood. Not sure of the exact time but it was sometime this afternoon.

Re: Computer Repair in JC

Definitely DO NOT go to Micro Tech unless you are willing to part with your computer for over two weeks.

VERY SLOW with their repairs. The only time they stepped up is when I went in there and made a fuss (read as, I made an ugly scene until they took me seriously). I was going to take my comp back on Saturday and then a MIRACLE happened! They just so happened to get my new fan THAT VERY DAY. I was so pissed off but the part was in and I needed my computer and didn't want to take it to ANOTHER place to wait a week or more.

Long story short, I demanded a guarantee that it would be fixed by today (Monday) or a discount for each day it was late. It was ready today. I told them I would never do business with them and I'd spread the word about poor customer service and poor repair time.

As I was leaving, I overheard another woman say, "I'm here for my computer. You said it would be ready this afternoon. It's the afternoon. I'm tired of the run around."

Caveat emptor.

While I haven't used Damian's services, I must say that he is very knowledgeable and very nice; even offering to lend me a comp while mine got fixed. The holidays are a very hectic time and once they were over, he was always available via e-mail to answer my questions.

He was upfront and told me that I'd negate my one-year Compaq warranty if he or anyone else opened my comp. I chose not to listen.

Just my 2-cents but I think I'll go with Damian next time I have a problem.

Microtech Computers, 2810 John F Kennedy Blvd, a little ways up from Journal Square. They charge very reasonable rates, work quickly and are nice people. I believe that's the same place JCRegister is referring to.

Gotta say, I am not impressed with Microtech. They've had my computer for a week and a half and can't tell me when it will be ready. All they have to do is replace the fan.

On a side note, I contacted Damian. We touched base via e-mail and haven't heard back from him.

Stained glass repair
Home away from home
Home away from home

I have a stained glass replica of Tiffany's A View of Oyster Bay. I had it in my window and the chain slipped and it crashed to the floor.

It's still in one piece but it has three major cracks. I JUST want to get the cracks "reinforced." I KNOW it's irreparable.

I don't want to replace it since my dad (who has past) gave it to me. And Oyster Bay is my home town. I'd rather place it on my mantle. I just want to keep it from falling apart.

Trust me, if there's a fire the fire department will use any means necessary to get to the hydrant, including breaking windows and denting/destroying the car.

I hated comcast. Notice...... past tense.

We got rid of cable altogether about 8 months ago. It was the best thing I have ever done.

1. We save money because we have no cable bill.

2. We spend more time doing constructive things like reading, talking, cooking dinners (which also saves money, not going out!).

3. I have noticed a distinct reduction in my desire to buy things. Not having commercials in your life will change your world view.

4. Many shows and movies are available on-line or through netflix, just without the commercials and the cost of cable.

I highly recommend getting rid of cable! It is very liberating.

My TV died and I can't afford a new one at this time. I turned off my cable TV. I work during prime time so I wind up watching shows on line anyway.

I find I get more things done, plus it's nice to save $85/month.

When and if I buy a TV again, I'll definitely go with Verizon FIOS.

She was only in the mall for an hour and 15 minutes. They were probably roaming the parking garage, looking for trouble.
