Do you really think your rent is fixed. If taxes go up owners are just going to pass the increase on to tenants as well as utility increases ans property mtce. Also, there are some temendous deals out there in JC Heights, Journal Square and Bayonne. If you are a 1st time buyer you can start small. Not many of us can start out buying waterfront property but you can get a great house cheap in these areas. It's like early 1990's pricing. Just put some sweat equity into a property and when the market comes back up you will have real value. Think about how long it takes to save just 10K from your paycheck. Equity is a sweet thing.

You are totally unrealistic. How can you possibly enforce your wish-list. It's childish and antiquated. My reference was not inferring white-flight. I mean that the way of life has changed. Generations do not live together in the same apt. bldgs. as they once did in JC. You had several generations in 1 bldg. As far as cops living in Manhattan..... We all know that a single person making 100K just can barely afford a 1 bedroom. Could you raise a family on a cops salary, maybe 85K with OT? You need to be in a different economic strata my friend. Maybe Ray Kelly can afford it.......

Mine either, but I have seen them in other apt. bldgs. and projects. So what are you saying they spent their whole shift there? If someone watched you at work would your productivity outpiut be 100%. C'mon.

Sorry I'm not a cop. You might want to pose your statistical question to teachers and firemen too. How many NYPD cops do you think live in Manhattan????? It would be great if they all lived here as they did in the"old days". The world has changed, as did the demographics. Anyhow, what does this have to do with the quality of policing? If those folks don't live here they pay taxes where they live.

When a cop is on patrol he generally steps into businesses, apt bldgs., and establishes a rapport with the community. What do you think the job entails???? How would you patrol when not responding to a call. These guys have posts that they tend to, specific areas that they must protect. Try it for about a month. Your opinion would change. Please remember there are 3 shifts, 24/7, about 1000 cops. Most of them are good people who pay taxes and experience the same pains as we do. Stop your hatred.

Well put. It has everything to do with one's character. Putting oneself in harms' way for others. At this point in time not many of us knew the war was a sham. This exemplifies leadership in my book. This guy is a great councilman and would make a terrific mayor.

Steven Fulop is a wonderful councilman. How many people would quit their jobs, join the Army and go to Iraq in response to 9/11? He is always there when you need him.
He is also intelligent, and world wise, 10 steps above anyone we have in office now.

Dr. Cohen on Newark Ave. Downtown JC. The best!
Pristine, efficient, state-of -the-art. Everything is computerized so there is no waiting. Staff is wonderful. Dr. Cohen is on top of the whole operation. Smart, experienced and personable. He will even give you his cell # if you need.
Can't praise him enough.

It is truly unfortunate that you feel this way abt. the JCPD.
The fire dept IS great. However, if they had to enforce the law, you would probably feel the same abt. them as you do abt. the JCPD. It's not an easy task to put up with the "stuff" the must deal with day in an day out.
Do you really think the PD is filled with degenerates. Please qualify the statement. Why do you have such an opinion?

Grove PATH;
Thanks so much for this news. This is truly a chance of a lifetime to see these 3 beauties together. It really harkens back to the days when the Hudson River, (which is actually the North River at this location), was a bustling seaport.
It will be spectacular. Do you know if they are all docking in Brooklyn with the QM2? Seems so. I'l have to check the Cunard site. Again, thanks so much for this.

It seems highly unlikely that Councilman Gaughan understood the Power Point presentation that was provided. In the past he has exclaimed that HIS constituency did't use email. So maybe technology is an issue.

Why is he so interested in this development? He can take it to the Heights and let it be a catalyst for devlopment up there. He can pave the Resevoir while he's at it.

Fat Ass Bike;
Thx. for calling me crap. Touche!
Using JClist as research is a complete joke.
Walk the walk then you can talk the talk.
You sir, speak b.s. with authority.
Again what are the ratios???? You said it; now you can't back it up.
Well let's get the official ratio. Set a date, I'll ask for a meeting with the East District Captain and the three of us can discuss further.

but what is the ratio.........
you are accusing 800 ppl of being crap!
gimme a number.
or are you quoting meaningless statistics that you made up?

also, i happen to know quite a number of cops who gave their all. some great ppl. you don't hear abt. them.
they crawled thru all the pile for months after 911. Some were in altercations that left them totally disabled and sick.
One of my dear friends had her jaw broken by a sucker punch at Grand Central by a person who was attacking a blind man. she is tough as nails and managed to "subdue" her attacker and defend her weapon. guess what... the perp fled the country before trial. bye bye. got off.
meanwhile my friend has tmj, migranes and messed up vertabrae. cannot walk very far. she has to live with this CRAP every day.

The ratio of cops involved in crap, is too high for such a small cop force.

That said, if there were 'good' and deserving cops that got promoted, then a BIG congratulations from the fat-ass.

Not insinuating anything but the fact that you have to pass a written, physical and psych test.
If you were a cop....hmmm.
My point is..... Do you think you could pass the test ?
Maybe you would be on the motorcycle squad!!!!!

are you all smoking crack? you really think there is no nepotism in the biz world. how freakin old are you, 10?
Look at all the CEO's that are robbing our economy with golden parachutes. Their friends are all on the board.
By the way you must take a test to be a police sgt., lt. capt.
The chief, believe it or not, is a political appt. That is how Bernie Kerik got his job.
It is unfortunate that you simply degrade all cops. The Port Authority and NJ State Police tests are no joke. Think you could get in a ring and box one of these dudes?
I guess everyone that has a joke degree is so educated and intelligent that they can recite meaningless stats and while being an "armchair quarterback".

please spare me the pomposity mr. builder.
not over exaggerating, just get a police scanner and listen to what these people do night and day.
they put themselves in harms way. how well would you do chasing thugs with glocks, thru the projects in early morning hours without backup?
think you may want to look up what the average cop does everyday. how do you really know????

Would you risk your life for someone in the line of duty?
I doubt it. Some of these people are the greatest. What is your profession? Any idiots in your arena that make stupid mistakes? Guess not.
Maybe you should speak your mind to these guys in person or perhaps your content to hide behind your keyboard.

Really Tazmanio......sigh
I also read an article in the Times stating that the avg. price of a one bedroom in NYC is 818K and two bedroom 1.2K.
Of courses prices have become negotiable in this area.
They were insane two years ago. But forelosures???
Most of the folks here could afford what they purchased.
Perhaps in all your wisdom you could predict the stock market activity for the next six months.....or maybe the next president or maybe the end of the world

Good Luck pushing the politicians.......
You gonna do it?

The re-val is coming but neither the current mayor nor prospective incumbent will broach this subject. After the new mayor is elected/reelected the issue will be addressed.

This is a far different city than the 1980's when the last reval was done. I think it will be withstood. Look at Montclair.
