thank you to those who believe me.... I am not some spoiled brat who wants things her way (except expecting businesses to provide the service they advertize) as you can see I have been on this site for about 5 yrs now and about 90% of my comments are positive so I don't come here to complain about ever time someone doesn't bend to my "ridiculous demands" (again helping me pack and ship a small box)

I went in there because it was convenient and I was hoping that perhaps the other bad experiences were on bad days etc (we can all have them) but he is the one who yelled at me when I kept insisting that my pre-paid label was valid and he then implied that I was somehow trying to scam him which is when I replied with my comment on how I see why everyone thinks his store is terrible

the fact that he followed me on here to "defend" himself by personally attacking me (the kind of person she is? he knows who I am after a 2 min conversation?) is pretty telling to me... if you look on yelp you will see the same attacks over and over on each negative comment.

I don't doubt that he is nice and helpful to his friends and people he knows but running a business requires being nice to more than just people you have known for 20 years.

kind of reminds me of another business owner in the area who some people love and some people hate...

you didn't say F you and I replied back hey I am not the one cursing here? once I said I see why every one on JC list says this place sucks you flew off the handle and got in my face telling me I own this business and I make so much money and I am soooo successful blah blah blah

don't worry it was reported directly to fed ex as well and they were happy to hear about my experience.... the other store I went to was happy to take my package and even when I asked to pay them for the extra packing they wouldn't take the money since it wasn't a big deal

and what was my dishonest claim? that I wanted to mail a package with a pre-paid label that you said wasn't a real label and refused to accept because "it was going to take up space sitting there"

another disgruntled non-post net customer.... the guy just cursed me out in front of the entire store (F this and F you etc) and when I told him that I wasn't surprise given the warning on JC list he went on another tirade about "these people" wanting what they want and throwing a fit when they don't get it...

he is right I did want what I wanted.... but shipping a package from a fed ex store using a pre-paid label doesn't really seem like I am asking too much? (and for the record I did need a box/packing materials so I was going to be a paying customer) ... I guess if you aren't a "old time JCer" then its ok to be treated like crap in front of a half dozen people

another business I will absolutely never enter

favorites were the cavatelli (veggie version w mushrooms) and the raw scallop

they were out of the oysters and potato so we have to make a trip back soon!

great little place - definitely not overstuffed with tables which is a relief from nyc dining but the wait was a bit rough bc table turn over was a bit longer than expected I would go back on a weekday or with reservations for sure

my boyfriend who hate broccoli rabe and most greens loved them here!

in the past every time I have called they have had some excuse why they couldn't today but call tomorrow.... after 5 calls and 5 excuses I gave up (but maybe its different now bc that was right when they started offering delivery)

thanks for the tip though... I will check it out
(I have a vegetarian friend who is allergic to ginger our only take out options are italian/pizza, falafel and mexican so it can get old fast)

oh and a good delivery mexican place.... the current delivery options for mexican downtown are gross (bubby's, boca grande, etc..... non-orange cheese- like product and fresh made salsa/guac would be awesome)

I would love a 24 hr diner type place (or just late night ie 2 am would be fine)

also I would second a gastro-pub type place (similar to skinners but more pub than restaurant?)

I would also appreciate another "nicer" restaurant - someplace to go on a date in the vein of Satis - small plates and cocktails sounds wonderful to me!

I will (have already) suggest that to them....

I think they need to be more upfront and have some sort of letters from current creditors to say he is paying and on time even if the report isn't updated yet but they don't know/think it will help

I also suggested she do it alone but she feels that she can't afford it alone and they won't accept that either (which I don't know if that is really true... I have heard that people want to see like 40x rent as your income in the past but don't know if that rule is really true anymore)

apartment for some one with bad credit?

wondering if anyone has any suggestion for a friend of mine... she is looking to find a new place downtown (1+ bed around $1500 - hamilton park area preferred) but keeps getting turned down bc her boyfriend has very bad credit

he has been working to fix it over the past few years but some mistakes happened with a settlement and it got mistakenly sent to collections (he is trying to fix this but they need an apartment ASAP - April 1st if possible)

anyone know of a no credit check landlord or someone that would take just her on the lease (they have never been late in their current place and she is super organized & has great credit)

from what I understand if you need the car any time soon you need to pay to get it removed (legally at least...the above post is semi-tempting though!) and once you pay the tickets you basically plead "guilt" and you can't really contest it

so unless you don't need your car for a few weeks generally you have to pay up and I guess you could try to take the JCPA/city to court for unfair practices after the fact (but to be honest the time/money to do that is just probably not worth it which is why they keep getting away with this BS)

at the very least I would try to go to JCPA with a copy of the law (saying no boots till 3 outstanding tickets) and see if you can find anyone with half a brain to listen (good luck!)

also not all curbs are painted (or if they are they were painted it was 25 years ago and now its just a few flakes here and there)

on my block only one corner has a no parking from here to corner sign the others have nothing (or very very old paint that is not visible unless its full sun at noontime and generally there is plenty of parking when its daytime)

I know (since I have gotten a ticket at the corners) to not park there, but new people/ guests, etc don't know that they have to be 25' (so 2+ car lengths) from the curb (which is kinda crazy to me...1 car length is enough)

Also ticket enforcement is pretty random.... I see cars parked there almost every single night and 9 out of 10 times no ticket then last night there was a parking cart going NUTS around 3-5th btwn Jersey & Eire at 10 pm - while I was trying to find a spot I saw at least a dozen tickets and 1 boot for corner parking.

It is sort of confusing and frustrating because some of us do need cars (I work in the suburbs of NJ... I guess I could train into 33rd, walk to port authority, take a bus to the burbs then walk a few miles to my work? but that seems a but ridiculous)...do you take the 10% risk of getting a ticket or do you drive around for 45 min+ late at night when you are tired and have worked all day and just want to be home (obviously I drive around since my last ticket but I can understand how some people just take the chance especially in the dark, rain, cold etc)

to me this says that zone rules are in effect which means you still need a sticker or temp pass but you can park on any side of the street regardless of the street "sweeping"

I used a temp on friday but just wondering if I am reading it wrong? I only have like 2 left and I feel a cold coming on. I rather save them if I need them for when I am sick.

While I love the food here - especially the short ribs and charcuterie the service here needs to change.

For the third time, we have been refused seating on the main floor - though it is totally empty (instead put in the upstairs that has no air conditioning - and yes I understand the concept of reservation - we had one for the past 3 weeks - I can understand one or two special tables being reserved but every table?) and served by possibly the worst waiter ever. He spent most of the evening checking his facebook or whatever on his phone, sulking in the corner drinking his water (while our glasses were empty) or rudely hanging over my dining companion to get a better look at the action downstairs.

We were told that the downstairs is reserved for the local regular customers - well I am local and I would be a regular if you didn't treat me like crap every time I come in for a meal.

Please fire the guy who is always serving upstairs...and get the AC fixed! I know its hot but run to home depot and grab a $99 AC so its comfortable in there

we'll be sticking with takeout from now on

A bar is an entirely different beast. I avoid most bars because they're either way too noisy or have a crappy selection of beer - or both (see Lucky 7s and Lamp Post). A place like White Star and 9C is cool, but it's always the same beers and not so cheap deep-fried appetizers. It's awesome walking into a place that has a beer on tap for a few days before it's replaced with something else. It's great when a bartender can recommend to you a beer that you've never tried before based on what type(s) of beer you typically drink. This is how a bar separates itself from the pack in a very short period of time. As for being a "sausage factory," all the places I've been to that are somewhat similar to the business model I suggested are usually a good mix of both men and women. Eliminating the TVs will keep the fratty crowds that gather to watch sports and the "middle aged men who just want to complain about the Mets" far away.

you do know that you don't have to play the video games at barcade .... there is an actual bar there as well

people definitely go to the brooklyn one just for the beer selection (not to mention we also have zeppelin beer hall... though the music/patrons can get to be a bit much there)

not to stir the pot any more .... but

I was told (when I was a student) that students are not required to change their plates/registration/addresses because its a temporary thing. This is possibly why the JCPA has to work with this bc a student could live in JC part of the year (ie sept - may) but legally be a resident of some other city/state etc. However your wife was told that she legally has to change (bc that is the rule when you move - you have 30 days to update your registration/insurance etc as to your new address)

Re: Parking Too Close to Crosswalks

i had a lovely run in with the JCPD tonight - they double parked blocking my car in for over 20 min while they were doing something on 4th street....
the fact that no lights were on the cruiser and I know that another cop lives in the building they were inside (plus the fact that they finally came out and got in their car without saying anything) makes me think that it wasn't official business bc I am sure I would have gotten some lecture/ ticket bc I sat on my horn for 20 min trying to get someone to come move it

they blocked the street for at least the 20 min I was out there (7 - 7:20 pm) and were causing the traffic coming down 4th to back up the length of the block which is VERY dangerous

thank you for perpetuating the stereotype that all cops are lazy losers that slack off on the job and are wasting tax payers money by the handful

plate # HG75115 (car 2990)
I have a few pictures of it... but I am assuming it won't make a difference to report it bc it will all of a sudden become "official business"

2 suggestions

ticket cars that are more dangerously parked. for instance, if you are at the corner of 2 one way streets making a right - a car parked on your left would block the view more than one parked on the right.

At the intersection of Brunswick and 7th, there are signs "No Parking from here to corner." about one car length. Pople might park there to unload but never leave them there for long periods of time. Put more of these signs up in problem areas.

I do agree with this .... to say that all cars must be 25 ft (or is it 50 ft) from all corners is a bit overkill - put up the no parking signs on the corners that truly warrant it and I will happily not park there

Re: Parking Too Close to Crosswalks

I will admit that I see some cars parked in really terrible ways however that site is ridiculous.... there is no way that anyone is going to obey 50 ft to the stop sign (or 25' whatever it is) if you get home past 8 pm there are no "real" spots... what do you suggest people (who have JC permits and live here) do?
if there is a spot that isn't blocking a cross walk or a hydrant or someones driveway or handicap spot....I am taking it no questions asked

until the city stops allowing more and more and more people to park (from 1 family becoming 4 families), have these huge double spot handicap parking and everything else what other option do I have?

should I quit my job so I don't need a car?

Re: Teppan Bar and Grill

we also went there last night.... our cook was pretty good and had some good tricks (some of the standards - volcano, japanese fire fighter, catching stuff in the mouth but some stuff I have never seen before to crack the eggs) he also was good at reading his table and made our presentation a little more pg-13 (using lemon halves to make a woman) since our table was all couples

They start w a small serving of edemame right when you sit down (which is nice bc you have to wait for the table to fill up - we were the last couple though so it wasn't too long for us maybe 30 min between sitting and him starting to cook). We got a roll (king tuna) and it was very good - a bit on the spicy side but nice. The soup/ salad was choose one only - I got the soup and it was ok, salad seemed pretty standard. For dinner we got the pick 2 combos w brown rice - the rest of our table got fried rice and that looks really good (he gave us a little taste). Dinner was good - the steak was done correctly (med rare for him and med for me) and seafood (shrimp & scallops) were also nicely seasoned. It took longer than usual because one guy at our table was "allergic" to onions all of a sudden so he had to make 2 versions of everything.

The one negative was that no one came to get a drink order (or get us water) for about 10 min though there were lots of workers milling about - even once we ordered it I think it took a little longer than it should have to reach us (another 10 min or so but again there was at least 5 staff people within eye shot). There was a lot of staff but it didn't seem like anyone was really a good waiter/tress and that one or two good people could have easily replaced the 5 people that were just hanging out. Water was generally refilled promptly though which was nice.

We would definitely go again (there was a 2 birthdays near us and it seemed like a fun place for that)

Coachella is in a temporary venue with no camping, and they do just fine. Plus, Indio California is hours away from anywhere. We're just a ferry ride from NYC. I blame bad marketing, period.

there is camping at coachella.... its just that not many people camp (vs the amount who get hotels/ condos) but there is camping available -- also coachella had to change their policies about re-entry finally after like 3 yrs of not selling out

there is little to no shelter at coachella either (though chance of rain is probably less than zero)... but there is some infrastructure to get crowds in/out/parking etc since it is used as a polo grounds

lollapalloza (held at millenium park) in chicago would probably be the best comparison to all points west and it seems like they are doing ok (though technically I guess that would be more like having it in central park or union sq)
