I thought the street fair had great turnout, as well as very interesting vendors - much better than the standard "street fairs" in manhattan.

however, it was so many people, it was hard walking through Newark (between the stalls, people just walking/browsing, and people lining up to get stuff, kids, strollers, dogs, etc). Perhaps the organizer would consider moving the event to wider streets next year?

Or even just lining the stalls on one side of the street, and stretching the festival up Newark for a few more blocks.

Was happy to see such a big turnout this year, but , paradoxically, the wall-to-wall humanity kept me from sticking around for too long.

So, that's something.

I still dont understand how so many people can be opposed to an extension that to me makes perfect sense. How is this a bad idea as opposed to getting off and transferring to a bus or a Nj Transit train to go one stop?

A direct link will result in WAY more Newark Airport passengers using PATH to get to NYC, rather than the bus to Port Authority, train to Penn Station, or a cab.

The PATH can barely hold the growing number of commuters that use it daily. Add plane-fuls of tourists, and you can forget about getting on an NYC-bound train at Grove Street.

Saw yet another new station yesterday at the corner of Jersey Ave. and Newark. They sure put it far away from the curb -- when the bikes go in there will be roughly 1/2 of that wide sidewalk area for pedestrians.

I noticed that, too. The station is kitty-cornered, so it encroaches on a LOT of sidewalk.

It also seems like it'll hold way more bikes than necessary. It's the size of the station on Christopher Street, which is a lot more bike-friendly.

Still, I'm psyched about CitiBike, in general.

I've never understood this mentality. Who has a diet so strict that they can't eat some fried chicken or mac and cheese every once in a while, if they want to? Fat, unhealthy people eat like this every meal, every day - but, it's plenty easy to be in good shape and good health and eat like this once or twice a week.

absolutely. my people are lean and fit-ish, and this food is our JAM (when done right. Dinosaur BBQ in Newark gets many of my dollars.)

Shitty or old floors are like that in old or porrly made buildings, one reason smart landlords live on the top floors when occupying their own buildings.

One of the only sensible posts in this thread. My tenant weighs 110 lbs soaking wet & you would think Godzilla was stomping through.

I'm fostering a trio of kittens - kittens! - total weight about 6 pounds. When I'm in the room below them, I'd swear they were bowling.

If those giant walls are just billboards, that is seriously effed-up.

The skunks downtown are incredibly bold, and back down for no one.

If you've got a possum in your yard, please leave him. They eat loads of ticks, and are way less susceptible to rabies than their raccoon pals.

So, here's a new side-effect of "restaurant row" we get to enjoy all summer:

When the places close down at 2/3am, their customers stroll in packs through downtown towards their cars, talking loudly, shouting to each-other across the street, completely oblivious to the fact that they're in a residential neighborhood.

I've noticed it increasing as the weather warms up.

At 3:30 this morning, I had to go down and tell a bunch of grown men and women - sitting on my stoop - that they were having their loud conversation right under several open bedroom windows. They seemed surprised and were apologetic, and quickly took it elsewhere. So no drama, but....seriously?

I see no simple solution to this.

I see solutions

1) close your window and turn the AC on. You don't own the street.

2) move, I hear lubbock texas is quiet in the summer

there are few tropes more tiresome than "it's a city, move to the suburbs if you don't like (topic)"

sitting on a stranger's stoop having a loud conversation at 3:30 in the morning is simply rude.

if you enjoy it so much, perhaps you could PM your address to I_heart, so he/she can send this delightful element of city living your way.

it's kinda like the back room at the old Maxwells, but with carpeting.

good sound (also: loud). great sightlines if you're tall.

no bar, but beer for sale near the door.

a great place to see a band when it's at about 2/3 capacity. sold-out shows get a little too claustrophobic for my comfort.
