I was outraged to see the trash and have been thinking about a more positive solution. There is a blue garbage bin next to bleachers - there is no excuse, I observed one young guy purchase a icey and put the empty cup in the blue bin while another finished a water a put the empty under the bench.
How about using the carrot instead of the stick? I am thinking of getting a couple cases of Fizzy Lizzy and offering it to all the kids playing basketball in exchange for them enforcing a no litter policy in the park. I could call Lizzy and ask her for a donation or a few of us could contribute to the effort and get something similar. Either way I am not going to do it myself and if others dont join the effort then what you see is what you get. My theory is that juveniles that litter in broad daylight with witnesses all around saying nothing will be more likely to commit other crimes. I think they should be approached with the assumption that they are decent young people who need to be taught that litter is unacceptable and they should be proud of the spectacular new basketball court and show appreciation to the neighborhood by following the rules.

Just got back from Hamilton Park and the park is spectacular except for the litter. I am not into complaining about it anonymously on the internet so if anyone wants to come to the park with me and confront the people who are littering email me with your telephone number to dan AT jclist.com
I am into in person confrontation; if we can get a group of 4-10 people to confront the obvious offenders on a regular basis; I am open to all solutions. I am thinking that we can do one or more of these ideas: 1. stand on the basketball court and demand that all trash be picked up before we allow play to resume 2. kick the trash onto the court and put the basketballs in the garbage 3. Call the police and back them up when they enforce the law. 4. Throw all the trash in the garbage including the half full and full drink containers. This needs to be done from day one, the people playing basketball seem decent enough to get the message if we are united and do not back down. Too many of us are walking past the court and ignoring the obvious, this sends the wrong message. I am available for litter patrol tommorow afternoon.

Jersey City Deputy Mayor Leona Beldini, a former burlesque queen, starts trial tomorrow
By The Jersey Journal January 24, 2010, 12:05PM Under the name "Hope Diamond," suspended Jersey City deputy mayor Leona Beldini commanded stages in the 1950s amd '60s as a burlesque dancer from Buffalo to Toledo, the Star-Ledger reports today. Come tomorrow, Beldini will be center stage in a different venue: federal court. She is the first of the 44 people nabbed in the July 23 corruption and money-laundering sweep to stand trial. Beldini, 74, is accused of taking $20,000 in bribes from federal informant Solomon Dwek, which she allegedly funneled into Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy's re-election campaign. Beldini served as treasurer of the campaign. Star-Ledger photoSuspended Jersey City Deputy Mayor Leona Beldini begins trail tomorrow for allegedly taking $20,000 in bribes from a federal informant. Beldini also allegedly negotiated with Dwek to be the real estate broker for the project he was supposedly developing on Garfield Avenue. Born in New York and raised near Princeton, Beldini joined a chorus line out of high school and has said she became a stripper because it paid an additional $50 a week. "She was a big name -- very well known on the circuit," Dixie Evans, who runs the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas, told the Ledger. Beldini was inducted into the Hall in 1995. Beldini, who has two adult children, has never tried to cover up the fact she made money taking her clothes off. The Hudson Theater, she once told The Jersey Journal, "was a wonderful place in the '50s. It was a wonderful form of entertainment." The most desirable marinas are in the Morris Canal due to the still water and 2008 was the first season in a long time that docks were available without a wait. Every other marina in the entire NY Harbor/Hudson River sucks due to the rough water.
There are a couple of boat dealers in Liberty State Park and one on Marin Blvd near the Sand Bar that sell new and used. Many used boats are avalible for free or cheap, speak to the Liberty Landing Marina and Liberty Harbor operators about getting a tour of the 2 boat yards on either side of the canal, they are fixer upers! There are some great deals on used power boats but remember that they consume anywhere from 5 to 50 gallons of fuel per hour. Sailboats use about 1-2 gallons per hour when motoring. There are 3 sailing clubs that have boats in Jersey City: Manhattan Saling School - Libery Harbor True North Sailing School - Newport Marina Offshore Sailing School - Libery Landing Membership for the season is between $1000-2000 depending on if you need lessons. Boat share programs are a great way to get on an expensive boat for cheap. Sailtime.com has a couple sailboats at Liberty Landing, Great Hudson on Marin will start one next year, www.yacht-smart.com has speedboats in Hoboken. They typically cost $10,000 per season but the boats are new or almost new. Check out the Business Directory for phone numbers.

More than two years ago CivicJC proposed Pay To Play reform to the Jersey City council. Councilman Steve Fulop then introduced the ordinance and in an unprecedented move the Council voted it down on the first reading.
This video shows your elected public servants give their reasoning at the January 2007 Council meeting where 250 people were present
Thanks to the effort of CivicJC, Steve Fulop, and many concerned citizens we will get a second reading this Wednesday at 7:00pm. This is the result of our referendum effort, and if the Pay To Play Reform is not passed on Wednesday it will go on the ballot this November. This is a special Public Hearing on this ordinance where the public may speak without signing up in advance. This will be our opportunity to address to the Council and Mayor in a public forum.

Let me make it clear that I am support the mall operator for enforcing their right to keep parking spaces available to their customers.
Someone today pointed out to me that my claim about this particular photo is not as obvious as I thought. I took this photo and I posted it because I saw this car being towed on one wheel. Now looking at it more objectively I can see that it could look like two wheels are on the ground. I maintain that I witnessed this car being towed on one wheel before I put the camera in front of my face and if this car was damaged as a result I think the owner would be glad to see this photo.
