Yeah, I really wasn't too impressed last night. Especially since he seemed to think it was such an accomplishment to be down 75% compared to last January when a whole family was slaughtered, and there was only 1 murder this January (butweren't there more than that?).

This is exactly why I voted for Steve. I didn't want a group of good 'ol boy do nothings. I wanted someone to stir things up and keep everyone on their toes. Keep up the good work Steve.

Thanks Minnie!

That's the bottom line. What is best for the community. I think community awareness of the new developments/building going on, etc are what really needs to be worked on.

I read in the paper yesterday that it is actually a 3% increase every year until 1015.

My point is that if the HPNA had announced their intention to change their bylaws - making it necessary to be a member for 90 days in order to vote - THREE MONTHS ago, the outcome of the upcoming elections would be a little less certain.

I get the HPNA's point that they don't want Home Depot to fill the room with their people to influence a vote. But your point is dead on. They didn't even put it in the agenda.

I also don't think that the people who show up to the meetings fully represent the community as a whole. While I am not for Home Depot, everyone else in my building is. They have other obligations on Wednesdays and can't make it to the meetings all the time. So they aren't being represented.

But how do you get the community to take interest in the community?

I also think the HPNA should get more involved in reaching out to everyone. The Silverman's came a few times to discuss what they were doing. I wonder how many people at those meeting were actually going to be affected by those plans as much as myself and my neighbors are. Unless they surfed these boards, my block knew nothing about those agendas.

Since you're obviously thinking of something specific, would you mind being specific? If you're going to call people hypocrites for supporting one thing while opposing another (without, by the way, identifying any particular person who supports one while opposing the other), you should spend a few words showing how those positions are inconsistent. I can't even tell which side is pissing you off.

Yeah I couldn't figure that out either.

Brewster,
I have only been living in Hamilton Park for almost 2 years. I am barely aware of anything that the HPNA does for the community. I never get the meeting agendas on my door step. The only time I would see them was when I would go to my boyfriend's and he would have one in his mailbox.

I had absolutely no idea that there was going to be new construction on my block until I saw a poster hung up on a pole by 25mc.org . I then was able to spread the word to my neighbors who also had no idea.

I stumbled upon jclist.com a couple of months ago so I was not aware of all the HPNA - Minnie drama. But thanks to this message board and those posting the HPNA meeting details, I now have finally been able to attend an HPNA meeting.

I didn't attend the last meeting because of all the drama, I attended because of my concerns for my block and the parking nightmare thatthe construction will cause.

As an outsider to all of the drama, it is obvious to me that there is something lacking with the HPNA. Why am I finding out about this construction from a watchdog group and not the HPNA? Why are the people on my block never informed about the HPNA meetings even though they are held right across the street from us?

I don't care who hates who and who can't work with who blah blah blah. I just want to know what is going on in the neighborhood.

Before the last meeting, I saw Minnie's post trying to rally everyone up to go and ask about elections. I went to the meeting, I paid my dues. But let me tell you, as an outsider, I was really PUT OFF by the actions of the board and how they changed the bylaws. It seemed rather childish as though they were trying to slap minnie in the face. That really should have been put in the meeting agenda and you know it. But the whole election debacle was not why I attended the meeting. I attended because of the development in the area.

This isn't Junior High School, this is a neighborhood. I wish that the board and Minnie could sort out their problems, but in my eyes, the board does not want to budge, and they look very childish in their actions.

I put on my membership application that I would volunteer anyway they would like me too. It would be nice if someone contacted me. I would be more than willing to pass out the meeting agenda to those on my block and the next block over so that they can be included too.

One thing that has always bothered me about the HPNA is that I feel like they don't feel as though I am a part of the community. I never get the flyers in my door about the meetings and agenda. Our block isn't good enough to be historical, so we basically don't matter even though we are a block away from the park. I would occasionally hear about the meetings because my boyfriend who lives on a historic block would get the agendas in his mailbox.

We would never know when the annual flea market was or other events that happen in the park.

I'm very thankful to FoHP and 25mc for making the people on my block aware of what is going on in the area.

Holy cow. I left when that started (I believe I was sitting next to you).

In regards to dues, I was also confused. Since I paid my $5 last night, did they say that the dues are from Jan - December? Would that mean I would have to pay again in January? That was very confusing.

I'll be emailing Steve Fulop anyway because I wanted to express my feelings about the Home Depot debacle.

Wednesday November 2, 2005 ? 7:30 PM
THE CORDERO SCHOOL
9th and Erie Street

Meeting Agenda
Crime Report

Police Officer Dina Reilly is our new representative from the East District Police Department will come to discuss our neighborhood crime concerns and any new developments in the neighborhood.

Home Depot Representatives

After making two appearances before the Jersey City Planning Board, representatives on behalf the Home Depot have finally agreed to address the Hamilton Park Neighborhood Association and discuss their plans for what they hope to be their store on Marin Blvd. The Hamilton Park Neighborhood Association has historically taken a strong position against the Home Depot occupying space in our neighborhood. Your neighbors? concerns pertain to the crippling traffic which the Home Depot may attract which can have staggering effects on our quality of life, potential effects on the infrastructure of our homes, while exacerbating an already problematic pollution problem.

Exeter Properties and Management the developers of St. Francis

Eric and Paul Silverman will return to our community meeting to discuss their proposed changes in response to the communities? concerns expressed at our last meeting. While this is evidences their interest in responding to our concerns it is opportunity for you to participate in a significant development project in our neighborhood, which should not progress without your input.

Historic Preservation Ordinance Amendments

In response to an overwhelming request from our neighbors, the Hamilton Park Neighborhood Association formed a committee to propose some amendments to the current historic preservation ordinance. After much hard work this committee has made presentations before former Councilman Jr. Maldonado, the Historic Preservation Commission and current Councilman Steve Fulop. Although there have been no affirmative oppositions to our proposal even after memorializing proposed amendments, we have been asked to participate in another meeting. Please express your concerns and support for our proposed amendments

DOT Rehabiltation Project On RT 139

The Department of Transportation has a new community representative, Sandra Gutarra. They have also set up an information web site at www.njcommuter.com. The web site will provide a construction schedule and traffic conditions. Should any of you have particular questions you could e-mail Sandra at sandra.gutarra@dot.state.nj.us or jcviaducts@dot.state.nj.us.
