Yep, that's it exactly: the smug I-was-here-first attitude that so often shows up on JC List.

BTW, being here 11 years doesn't make you a long-timer. I also moved here in '98 and I'm happy with the neighborhood improvements.

No, the Hard Grove isn't what it was. I guess that's white people's fault.

I did a run around the park yesterday and, even though I was at APW, I was still surprised by the amount of damage. The vast middle part of the part won't be the same until the spring. New grass doesn't take hold that quickly. It's going to take a lot of time and work.

I think it's awful that a private event can ruin the park for visitors for months, but it was just chance, a fluke of weather. If they hadn't had two days of rain, LSP would be looking good now.

BTW, a lot of damage came from the heavy equipment that the organizers used to move things. There are huge wheel marks in the grass everywhere. It wasn't just the crowds.

Go Steve! Having one honest voice on the city council isn't much, but thank God we've got at least one.

Clothing doesn't sell well at stoop sales, but if that's all you've got hang everything up and space them out so people can see them easily. No one's going to sort through your plastic bins.

Odd that they would say that. I always thought it was the city that paid for the vaccines. I searched and found this link.

Pinkowitz, do you know anything about the city stopping this?

Please, everyone, make sure to get to the polls for Fulop tomorrow. I'm so proud that we have an independent voice willing to look out for the people's interests, not those of the HCDO.

I'm a lifelong Democrat and the HCDO makes me ashamed. It's only goal is to keep itself going. It's the opposite of good government. It's so threatened by Fulop trying to clean up city hall that it's putting its resources behind a Republican to fight him.

In the last four years, Fulop has been incredibly accessible and willing to listen to the people over city hall or developers. We can't lose his voice or his energy. Please, get to the polls tomorrow and support him. And, while you're there, vote for anyone besides Healy for mayor.

It's amusing to see an incumbent running on a platform of "change." Doesn't he know that he's had four years to change things? Any change now would be away from his policies.

Of course, it's purely cynical posturing. He's trying to grab Obama's coattails and so he grabbed the "change" idea. But it doesn't work unless you're an outsider. It just shows how empty his words are and how little he thinks of his constituents.

I've had packages left like this. From what I was told, FedEx changed its policy a year ago so now packages can be left without signature by default. If you want to make sure you sign for something, the sender has to specifically request a signature.

The office is just outside the WTC PATH so since I live downtown, travel-wise it's about the same time for me to go there as it would be to go to JSQ.

I couldn't be happier with the treatment I've received.

I second this one. I think it's the best derm in the area.

As far as ?the machine? goes and not voting for any "machine" candidates you have now just wiped out everyone running for Mayor and to date all the people they have announced on their ticket for the exception of Dan Levin and his group. I can?t see how anyone can call out Healy without calling out Manzo, Smith and even the Independent. Let the Google search and the Jersey Journal archives be your friend.

If that's true, then Levin's the man.

Sometimes people become so entrenched that they can't see the real problem.

This is infuriating. The corrupt are in charge and change the rules to protect their corruption. It's time to kill the machine that controls JC politics and get behind independent politicians. This referendum might not get on the ballot, but we need to get behind non-HCDO candidates.

Many people seconded this post, so I wanted to offer this update. I was in the mall Saturday (for Batman, naturally), and saw that Hale and Hearty Soups is now on the food court. For anyone who knows how fantastic their soups are, this is great news. Sure, it's a lunch spot, not a dinner spot, but it's now the best food in the mall by far and a great addition to the downtown area.

Dear all, I have a question: Where does a responsible pet owner find a resting place for his/her beloved animals when their time has come?

My vet wanted to charge me $265 for cremation with a ceremony (would I be there at the ceremony? - no, they said). I declined, saying that I had a backyard, a shovel, and knew how to use it.

But what would someone without a backyard do? Thank you for your input on this question.

You've got a bad vet there. He or she is playing on your emotions, and is deliberately not telling you about the much cheaper group cremation option.

I got into an accident recently and got two estimates for the body work from Sernio?s and Sip Autobody. Sip Autobody came in about 25% cheaper and I was happy with their work. It?s not exactly downtown but it?s convenient to the JSQ PATH. Either one can give you an estimate in 10 minutes so if you have the time it might be worth shopping around.

There?s a bunch of chop shop looking places hidden around The Beacon area if you really want something cheap though. I just don?t know too much about them.

This is a good idea. I think I'll try the Journal Square area, since I can take the PATH home. The ones downtown -- like A&L and A1/Avel -- seem to be only good if insurance is paying. Anyone know of other bodyshops in the Journal Square area I could try?

Downtown Bodyshops?
Home away from home

Dukes 2 is no more, and that has me upset. George has gone and sold his 2nd Street bodyshop -- the cheapest in the area -- and moved back to Argentina. I don't know how he could have done this to me. The place is still there, but now just a mechanic shop.

So, does anyone know a bodyshop in the downtown area (downtown only, please) that does decent work at super-reasonable prices? I tried Avel, but it was way high. I think a lot of places are used to charging insurance companies and billing a fortune. I need a dirt-cheap place for the driver who's paying out-of-pocket.

It's a novel way to make money.

Make copies of advertisements from one newspaper. Run the photocopied ads in your newspaper. Send the advertiser a bill and then watch the money roll in.

I just read this article at the Journal's online site and I was hoping someone had posted it here. As Mugatu said, "I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!" Why is Fulop the only person in our local government who will speak out about blatant pay-offs like this? I guess I should be glad there's one person who will do so, but why is there only one?

The council gets billed for ads no one authorized and agrees to pay more for them than even the authorized paper got?! The mayor feels free to play the race card because it's a black-owned paper?! This is insane. And we put up with it?

Now we have another illegal gun on the streets because of our legal gun shop. We need to find a way to shut this guy down. He's a nut. This crime happened because he left a gun case unlocked. That's criminal stupidity. How do we petition to get his gun dealer's license revoked?
