3. The Parking Authority will be stepping up enforcement on parking at the curbs.
4. Crosswalks will be repainted.

Additionally, the blinking light on Erie at 10th Street might be switched to a standard traffic light in the near future.

The East District will also continue to keep an eye on speeding in the area.

This is a good start. The area will be monitored to see if this is effective or more is needed. This is very important as it relates to the changing needs of the area and its residents.

Sincerely,

Steven Fulop
Councilman Ward ?E?

Good work Steve, but I hope the Parking Authority will be as diligent on the intersections near Bay Street, First Street, Sixth and Seventh Street, because most of these offenders will be police officers, and they should be held to the same standard as everyone else, especially when safety is involved. Keep in mind a driver on Erie and 7th may not be able to see a car on 7th if a car is parked on the corner. Not sure of the value of a Light at the corner of 10th, but it shouldn't matter if it is timed with the next light.

Great idea, how about a few artists from 111, they are an endangered species. We can move the entire Powerhouse Arts District to the Embankment, that will solve many problems.

Stops signs are fine, but they don't address the real problem: not being able to see the speeding cars coming because illegally parked cars are blocking your view.

I live in the Erie Street danger zone: between 1st and 2nd. 10 or so days ago, there was an accident at 1st and Erie. Clearly, a car coming east on 1st hadn't seen the car going north, and they collided. The view of the car traveling on 1st street was blocked by illegally parked cars, both on 1st and on Erie. The police officer at the scene, however, didn't bother to ticket the illegally parked cars that contributed to the accident.

Until the police realize what's causing these accidents, and do something about, stops signs will only do so much.

There is no question in my mind, that the cars illegally parked were owned by policemen, thats why no tickets were issued. This area is notorious for this type of abuse by the police, they are not held to the same standard as you or me. I hope the people involved in the accident took pictures of those parked cars and followed through by holding the offenders accountable for their actions.

I'd like to see some enforcement of the parking rules near crosswalks and intersections, Erie St and 1st, Bay, and 7th are particularly bad, wioth most of the offenders being policemen (private cars). The curb cuts seem to be the best option.

What dusk to dawn definition? They now collect my trash on Monday night, not Tuesday morning. The day before Monday is Sunday so anything after 7:00 PM Sunday would be acceptable as the law stands.

It certainly seems exploitable. They changed the collection time and didn't change the law to reflact that. Perhaps they're already aware of this and that's why they handed out warnings instead of actual summonses.

You cant even quote it correctly, click on the link and you will see that it says: "Curbside collection is provided twice a week, including holidays. Materials must be tied or placed in containers and placed curbside no earlier than 7:00 PM the night before your scheduled collection day." That's night not day, it can be interpreted several ways, and where is it written that this is the law? Exactly what statute is it? The web site doesn't say. When you go to court, reference the web site, surely your summons will reference the law (by statute), bring a video camera, we all would like to see your face when you discover what the law really is.

Lucy and Stanley Wolf were not related to Tania, unless you want to count the fact they they are both Polish, therefore related. Tania's story is truely the American dream, she borrowed money from friends and family and built a thriving business with the loans, and repaid every penny. I doubt that Lucy and Stanley gave Tania 1 cent, in fact they used to get Polish calendars to distribute to the community at no charge, and Lucy always charged people for these "complimentary" calendars, people like that do not loan money to others.

Why don't you contact the SID, they are there to help you, the merchant.

"Clean Team
We have been pleased with the; performance of our hardworking Clean Team. They work a total of 120 hours per week sweeping the sidewalks in our district, picking up the litter along the streets and curbs, perform weeding where necessary and also water the flowers. If you notice any specific problems in your area please let us know. Also remember that you are also responsible for the front of your building! Lets work together to make our district clean and beautiful!" clipped from: http://www.jcdowntown.org/news.html

Plus, if your neighbor is not acting in a responsible manner, they can get the NID involved. Just go to a meeting and state your case, they surely will listen to you.

Parking Authority told not to blow "horn" while writing tickets

Just can't stay away

I have noticed in the past week, that it has been mighty silent while the street cleaner covers my block, and that only half the cars on my street (First Street, bteween Erie and Manila) have tickets. I asked the Parking Authority officer in the little trike what gives? She said that the cars that are not ticketed belong to policemen, and they were instructed not to give tickets on First Street or Bay Street between Erie and Manila, and not to give any warning beeps as was the practice in the past. In fact the street cleaner won't even go up Bay from Manila, it makes a left on Manila, right on Newark, Right on Erie, completely bypassing the section between Manila and Erie. and is not giving any warning beeps to make up for the shortfall in tickets. This really stinks, as you now have to look for the street cleaner so that you move your car in time.

They are up again, by about 6% from last quarter, whiich makes the total increase over 30% from the same period last year. You can see your bill online at the Jersey City web site, they will probably be mailed this week (if not mailed yet), and I would guess that they will extend the due date to the end of the month.

What's the difference, the vote was unanimous, even if Ryan recused himself, it would not have changed anything. The complaint should be filed to enforce the law, the actual outcome should not be challanged.

Re: Need Explanation of 3% tax applicable in Jersey City
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

The 3% tax does not apply to motor vehicles or telecommunication equipment. These items are taxed at 6%, (maybe 7% tomorrow). In order to buy something at the 3% rate, you must walk into the store and order the goods and or services offered at that rate, otherwise the tax is 6%. The idea is to have people come into the zone and buy things, not just call and take advantage of the cheaper rate.
