We subsidize low income workers with low income housing, or some other type of govt program such as food stamps etc. Some of the fast food workers don't live in their mom's basement but in a homeless shelter. Most did not or still does not have healthcare. When they get sick they have no choice but to go to ER and we pick up the inflated ER bill.

Instead, raise the minimum wage which has not been adjusted to inflation for decades. Low income people spend most of the raise they get and this help out the overall consumer based economy. Republicans should be happy that low income people will take less "handout" from the govt because they will be paid a respected wage to pay for their things.

What republicans are afraid is that fast food wage hike will cause other wages to increase across the board and eat into their profits. Why is it that fast food CEO making over 1000 times more than their average employee? How come fast food CEOs pay has quadrupled since 2000 while average employee's wage is stagnant?

http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2014 ... rkers-earn-small-potatoes

"Chipotle's CEO took home $13.8 million in total compensation. And McDonald's CEO compensation totaled $7.7 million. (Compensation includes salary, bonus and the value of exercised options.)

Overall, the average compensation of fast-food CEOs has quadrupled since 2000. The figures in the report are based on data from Standard & Poor's ExecuComp database and company proxy statements.

The report, by the public policy group , concludes the fast-food industry has the most extreme pay disparity of all the sectors in the U.S. economy, with a CEO-to-worker pay ratio now exceeding 1,000 to 1."

The President was in town yesterday and Hudson corridor was shutdown to all aircraft for some time. Mostly NYC tourist helicopters got stuck with passengers and were circling over our heads.

There is also an article about a near miss in nj.com with a video. That was shot on 5/12 from a playground.

I personally don't like red light cameras because

Rear-End Crashes Go Up After Red-Light Cameras Go In

I am always nervous when traffic light is about to change to red when those pedestrians signs are blinking and check my six for a tailgater in case I stop and he assumes I will run the yellow he will follow right behind me.

Anthony from Petrocci Agency is a friendly guy. I use his services and he is in South JFK Blvd near you. I switched over both home/auto from Liberty Ins to Fitchburg Mutual few years ago when Liberty tried bait and jack up rates on me after 2 years in a row with no claims/tickets/accidents.

If you have any investments in Russia sell now. I was watching CNBC today and last week alone $30 billion US investment left Russia. Their market is down 20% YTD and will accelerate downward. They froze Putin's Oligarch buddies' accounts. Russia also lost all that marketing hype they made with the Olympics in matter of few weeks time afterwards.

Last week I saw 2 people with signs demonstrating by Holland Tunnel in front of Lukoil station. They had signs telling people not to support Lukoil gas which is from Russia. PA police was there and then JC police car showed up.

I prefer French Grey Goose so I am good and don't like fish eggs.

In this case Downtown Manhattan Heliport is owned by NYC. They gave the contract to Saker Aviation to run the heliport and rent it out to 5 tourist helicopter companies. NYC takes a fee from each take off so more sorties the better for their bottom line. NYC Economic Corp decided on the new routes and hours of the day for the tour helicopters.

Have you actually done what you are exhorting others to do??? Because, I will tell you this: I live ACROSS from LSP. I run there almost daily, I spend many a Summer afternoon in the park, sometimes grilling, others just walking my dog. Sometimes I take my daughter kite-flying. I kayak in the Hudson along the LSP shore, sometimes venturing out to circle Liberty Island. Very rarely do I notice any significant helicopter activity, and never any of these swarms of helicopters you claim to be the bane of people's existence. I don't see anyone else looking up to the skies, filled with anger because their enjoyment is diminished. In fact, I don't remember a single instance in which I have felt any sort of diminished enjoyment of the park because of helicopter noise. In short, you are spouting hysterics.

You won't hear them that badly in LSP because they make their turn to NYC heliport before the park South bound. North Bound they are much further to East and higher altitude to hear the noise at irritating levels. It is almost spring time. I invite you to walk anywhere between Goldman Building and Hoboken on a nice sunny day by the waterfront and see for yourself.

Re: Helicopters over the Hudson

These tour helicopters did not operate over Hudson at this frequency up until 2012. They used to fly over Manhattan, Central Park, East River, Brooklyn Heights and other neighborhoods so the noise and possible risk from a crash was spread out. New York Senators pressured NYC economic development corp to change their routes. They banned all tour flights from west 34 st heliport and east side, over Manhattan and Central Park. They decided on new routes without any approvals from NJ towns in 2010 which was implemented in 2012. As per their new route they fly 1500 feet North bound central part of Hudson river (less noisy for NYC) and fly South bound at max 900 feet hugging the coast of NJ and over apts in Weehawken Piers. I saw them many times flying over Hyatt hotel and Pier Apts in Jersey City. There is no NJ economic development corp. to tell them to take it back to NY side. FAA is OK with it as long as no one is complaining hard. This is the injustice we are talking about and asking for support.

Hey Cartman,

We wanna ban south park too. I kid I kid... I like Kenny.

I can't comment about other "ban" issues but I personally don't like rotor noise coming from NYC helos which can be heard as far as the JC City Hall sometimes. It is also a major potential safety issue when one of these helos crash almost every 2 years. Since we don't get a dime from NYC on profits but all noise it is logical to ban or push them over to NY side of Hudson. Wait till summer when there will be 60 flights per hour.

I also recommend bestbuy for appliances. Sears is also good when stuff is on-sale.

In terms of HD in the area.. they all suck now in terms of stock. When I renovated our bathroom in 2004 there were many people working there and I got everything I need from 440 HD and filled up the old Wex wagon within 2 hrs from 6-8AM and still made it to work on-time.

After the housing bust it is hard to find everything you need in stock in same store. Last year I wanted to put in some closetMaid kit with drawers and had to go to DT, 440 and SCS to find all parts. Last month I wanted to get some frame wire and kit to install few paintings and a mirror and had to go to DT & 440 for my needs. Online it shows so many in-stock but when you get there not a single item in stock sometimes. Even if you call you don't get the right stock unless someone goes and checks in the isle.

Re: free air to inflate tires?

This is not in JC but if you have Costco membership you can fill up tires with nitrogen for free there. Closest one is in Clifton. The psi in tire does not fluctuate as much due to temperature changes compared to regular air but you probably have to almost empty out each tire and refill with N to get benefit out of it. Car dealers try to upsell this all the time.

We want to have the festivals at Exchange Place, but the festivals must take the quality of life of the people that live in the area into consideration. I would support any other area in JC to enjoy their time at home as well.

This ^^

No one wants to shut down festivals by Exc Pl but to lower the volume to healthy levels. If you can't imagine what it feels like to be bombarded by extremely high music levels and DJ announcements constantly then come to one of these this summer and stay for 12 hrs. Next day come again and spend 10 hrs plus. Come every weekend for entire summer... now you get the picture what it feels like for local residents in the area.(No I do not hear this noise from my apt and live in DT) No one wants high levels of noise in their backyard.

4) Pole Position Raceway- bonus at the track. Go during the weekday when no one is there. Don't race against the clock which is boring. Race for a position with your buddy in a dogfight. up and under etc.

head down to Zeppelin Hall for some beer after track time(wish Spaten was still on tap). That's what I do when my buds visit from NYC and the burbs.

Pershing field has a pool and ice skating, if they are into that kinda of thing.

I have avoided that bridge like a plaque as well since the last toll hike. I only took it twice within the past 3 years and that was the free side SI->BK to go to JFK. Maybe there are lot more people who are avoiding it and revenue is down...

One tip for NJ drivers. Sign up for car-pool EZpass plan. If you have 3 or more people in the car then NJ crossings into NY are $5(it was $2 when cash toll was $8). They have been raising that un-proportionally to cash rates. You have to use the cash lane and tell the agent "car pool". If tunnel is backed up ezpass lanes are not moving anyway.

They should make it like the JFK airtrain and have a separate fare from existing Newark station to planned airport EWR station. Let that fare help pay for the existing bonds and future maintenance fees.

Most likely path train will go to $3 and Holland tunnel $20 within a couple of years to pay for this.

They don't know how to promote the Newport Mall. They need to add more service to Path Train on weekends and post some ads by WTC in NYC and we would get some NYC tourist to come over. Century21 type of stores combined with no tax on clothing and shoes will help attract tourists to shop here. We also have the low 3.5% tax on electronics which is another selling point.

However, be warned that the website is owned by long time lobbyist for the NYC tour helicopter industry Robert Grotell(just google his name).
