This report was on the Jersey Journal's "Now" website which has small articles that appear during the day. Hopefully there will be a more detailed report in tomorrow's jersey journal.

Valkin is right, I hope this sparks more of a response than having a self defense seminar.

I wonder what Troy's excuse for this will be? It wasn't a case of a youth gang or an illegally imported firearm.

I like the fact that Steve Fulop is stirring the pot but if this is a legal activity there is no reason why Robert Troy would address the issue in a public forum.

He is doing his best with the Low number of Police Officers in this big city we live in.
And when the force gets to where he needs it to be it we will be a better city
And also MR FULUP what would be your way of making crime go down, should we hire ROBO COP
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK CHIEF TROY
DON'T LET THIS YUPPIE LOVER GET TO YOU

I find it interesting that the majority of your 6 posts have been YUPPIE BASHING. The AREA is CHANGING! There is a large emerging part of the population that is upwardly moblie. Get rid of your class envy and move on.

And your cop comments are off base. . .even healy admitted that increasing the number of police officers on the street would not make it a better city.

Jersey City councilman calls for police chief to step down
Jersey City Councilman Steve Fulop today called for the resignation of Police Chief Robert Troy, citing a recent spike in violent crime.

"It is clear to me that since assuming his post as Jersey City police chief, Robert Troy has led the department down the wrong direction," Fulop said in a prepared statement. "The result of his mismanagement has been an increase in the overall crime rate throughout the city."

Fulop said statistics show that violent crime rose 11 percent in the first six months of 2005. There were 39 homicides in Jersey City last year, the most since 1982.

Fulop delivered a letter to Mayor Jerramiah Healy's office today asking the mayor to ask for Tryo's resignation.

"I am least as dismayed at the number of homicides as councilman Fulop," Healy said today. "I certainly disagree with councilman Fulop and to lay the blame on Chief Troy is misplaced. I support the chief."

djh101,

You ever think that maybe the owner of the tow company is just doing his "racket (job)" just as you do every day? Its people who like yourself who are the tools. Not some guy doing his job that you dont like.

A Mans legal job is not a racket just because some tool like yourself is not educated enough to relize the facts of life.

Know the facts before you going running your mouth like a bored housewife who gossips all day long.

Are you the owner?

I'm amazed how many compliments this place is getting. I was so excited to try it after reading all the rave reviews and my roommates and I were so disappointed. The fish taco was bland, the burritos were nothing but spicy ground beef wrapped in a soft tortilla and the enchilada was the size of a deck of cards (for about 6 bucks I expect to get enough food to at least begin to satisfy my appetite). The food wasn't necessarily bad, but honest to God, I would have been happier with taco bell food. Bubby's burritos, baja, white star, isabella's...anywhere else that has that kind of food is so much better in my opinion.

I have not yet been but I am planning on going sometime soon. I am not sure what your experiences with authentic mexican food are but that could be why you didn't like it.

I was in western texas about 7 years ago, and I went to a little authentic mexican place where the food was quite bland compared to what I thought mexican food should be. From what I experienced since is that authentic mexican food is more subtle than the americanized version.

"...pushing sewage up through toilets in Jersey City.."

"In Hudson County municipalities like Hoboken, Bayonne and Jersey City, the heavy rainfall caused sewer systems to overflow, forcing water up through toilets and bathtubs and causing sewers to back up onto residential streets and major roadways.

"The water has no place to go," said Joseph Beckmyer, chief engineer for the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority.

As a result, Mr. Beckmyer said, untreated water was being dumped into the Hudson River, as permitted by the state's environmental regulations. Several large blockages of storm drains were probably contributing to the flooding, he said. Work crews were trying to unclog the smaller drains, but engineers will have to wait for the water to subside before clearing the larger ones, he said. "

That's intereresting. . . i have noticed that my sump pump has not been filling up for the past day and a half.

Back to your question, dojo-mojo:

At least half the street at the corner of Grand and Grove was under water during the worst of the storm. It stayed pretty deep for a few hours following too. It was about a foot deep in most places in the street and probably 4 to 8 inches covering most of the sidewalk heading up Grove St. toward York St. Luckily, none of this came into our place. The only weird thing was that the sewer backed up into our backtub... left some pretty nasty residues there! Also, following the storm, we tried to flush our toilet and it overflowed terribly...not because it was clogged, just because the water had nowhere to go.

But...it's all gone now!

Perhaps your apartment complex has a check valve. This is a valve that flaps shut when the sewer tries fo back up into the apartment. When this happens all of the toilets, showers, and sink's water has no place to go. Therefore you will get toilets that overflow.

The thing with my flooding situation is the most water I get on my floor is about an inch. IF I had 2 feet of water I would say "ok I am screwed" but I think someone can come up with something that can stop one inch of water.

Re: Flooding (help)

Just can't stay away

So my apartment flooded again, I live in a duplex and our bedroom is in the basement. Fortunately for me I have a tile floor and all I have to do is a vigorous mopping.

Our plummer came over and told me the same things plummers tell me when they evaluate the situation (backup from the sewers, check valves, etc..

The question that no one seams to answer is this: If we put in more sump pumps will this help? they always tell me that it will just get pumped out to the street and it will come right back. Now I would rather have the water pumpinig out to the street than on my bedroom floor. If I have a bunch of sump pumps pumping out water and keeping my floor dry I really couldn't care less if it's the same water circulating from the street to my sump pump. I am off base here?

Torico's Ice Cream
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

I am new to this board and I am not sure if peope have written about Torico's Ice Cream Shop, on 1st Street and Erie, but I thought I would give my two cents.

First of all the outisde does not have a sign and I never stepped foot into the place until I lived in JC for 5 years (that was 3 years ago). Even though it has the charm of a 1970's dairy queen, it has some of the greatest ice cream I have ever had. It is all home made and they have over 50 different flavors. Some of my favorites are pumpkin, peanut butter vanilla, avacado (not what you would think), and blueberry cheesecake.

The place is very clean and the people behind the counter are quite nice. You owe it to yourself to give it a try.
