The bridge is pre-wired for lighting about every 10 feet. They also have landscaping at each end built into that number...no gold ball however.

The bridge being put into place this morning. All they have left is to grade Jersey Ave to the base, which they said would be completed by the weekend, weather permitting. photo 52313footbridgeinstalled.jpg

Are these funds going to Public Works, an agency that answers to the city, or to the JCIA, an autonomous one that does not?

Despite the gray weather, our farmers? market is open today, and both farmer Ed and Shannon are back, to join the other vendors for the season. Fresh vegetables, cheeses, breads, baked goods, and flowers are just some of items for sale. You can also get your knives and scissors sharpened while you shop.

See you there,

Brewster, who knows what you have started here, the entire box of cuttings found a home (must have been at least 35 pieces). Thanks for taking the time to trim them up and bringing them to the park. Looking forward to getting to the figs before the birds do, in Van Vorst Park.

Your new pedestrian bridge is now sitting on two trucks at the south end of Jersey Ave. Not the color we had discussed with the city engineers, but white works too? with instillation hopefully by Memorial Day, lighting and landscaping to follow.

According to the city?s time-line, the prefab footbridge will be on the southern end of Jersey Ave for your review (possibly due to political expediency) on May 2nd, and be in place for use by June 1?I love an election year.

I was just told by the JCIA dispatch to leave your refuse on the street if it was your collection day last night...they will pick it up this afternoon. Recycle will be picked up tonight on the regular schedule.

The latest word is that the state has taken over this epic construction (9 years and counting), and will resume building in early spring of 2013 in hopes of completion by summer. In the interim, they are looking for a buyer to take over the albatross.

If it had been handled properly, this project would have transformed the area years ago?what a boondoggle.

I have taped off the perimeter of Van Vorst Park; please observe the city?s closing of all public parks until further notice. There are a number of trees in VVP that will shed large limbs under sustained high winds.

Please be safe and stay out of the area until the tape is removed.

Last year we planted in 81 locations throughout all wards, and in spaces that never had any color.

We are still looking for suggestions for this year. The location must have high visibility, be on public lands, and contain suitable soil for planting. If you have such a spot, please go to http://jcpcbigdigproject.wix.com/thebigdig#!contact , provide the information, and fill in your contact if you?d like to help plant that area. I will check out the location to see if it works, and get back to you either way.

Although this could be very beneficial to a fairly depressed area of Jersey City, don?t think this is going to be a ?park?. Out of the total 17 acres, approximately 2 will be a parkland, with the balance dedicated to a recreation complex. . . ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, and parking (see this link for the design http://www.thejcra.org/blp) .

Then last night, there was an yellow police tape placed around the bench where these kids had been hanging out.

Who were those kids and what happened to them? Does anyone know?
If you can recall what it?s like to be a ?hippy? during the 60?s, perhaps you are having a ?flashback? from a past acid trip . . .don?t worry it will go away in a decade or so.

When you start seeing the lost boys and Mary Poppins in VVP, we need to have a talk.

How about giving credit where it is due?
I?m not pleased about their response to ?quality of life? issues (litter, graffiti, dog waste), but this is effective and meaningful police action.
If they would just have some physical presence on the street (besides construction sites), I?d feel there was a more balanced approach to enforcement.

Thanks for posting. This article is a little misleading as we didn't vote to pay any bills. The vote was to allow nothing to be paid this year and defer the $7M into two payments starting next year after the election. The issue at hand is that there is no plan how to pay it next year, and it is operating expenses from this year thus the comments from Donnelly and Lopez knowing what they were doing was concerning .. Hope that clarifies

Steven
Steve,

Why is the city of Jersey City bailing out an autonomous agency, and what obligation does it have to do so?

Why is the JCIA not required to cut expenses as a condition for this bailout?

It is my understanding that these past due amounts are for the collection of recycle refuse, which should produce a profit for the JCIA?why is there a shortfall?

Why doesn?t the city or the JCIA have recycle bins throughout Jersey City, in its parks, high traffic areas, and schools in order to increase revenue?

When does the JCIA stop becoming a cash cow for political favoritism?

Jersey City continues to base its financial decisions on politics instead of sound business?we will never achieve being a first class city until the council as a whole has the intelligence and fortitude to do the right thing.

Please do the same and let them know we want something done about this horrendous smell.

We are behind schedule due to the difficulty of securing financing in this economy. However, last night we received sponsorship from two generous donors, which will enable us to show a full season of films.

Please check our web-site at: www.filmsinvanvorst.com for dates, times, and selection (should be updated within the next two weeks).

These showings are presented through our non-profits, and cost approximately $2,500 for the licensing to show the movies.

We are pleased, to again, bring this event to the Van Vorst Park neighborhood?hope to see you there.

Though you may not agree with the Mayor on many things, this is one issue he should have your support.

The CCTV system, which I think should be expanded, has been a deterrent and an added tool in finding pockets of crime, needs to be continued with state funding.

When I moved my business from Manhattan to Bergen/Lafayette 27 years ago, the UEZ was an economic incentive that brought me, and other business to my building, as well as making it possible to obtain a mortgage that would otherwise be rejected in such a neighborhood.

As strongly as I am against abatements downtown (for the last 15 years), the UEZ is an important and useful program in bringing new enterprise to our depressed sections of Jersey City.

I encourage the Mayor and residents, to let Governor Christie know how valuable the UEZ can be, in stimulating employment, growth, and making it financially viable to bring new businesses into neglected sections of our town (and in turn, added revenue to the state.)

Though I still have problems with a few dog owners in VVP, I must say that the vast majority obeys, not only what are the ordinances on the books and what is right for their community, but have started to challenge those that do not.

You may complain all you want and expect others to deal with your objections (e.g. the police), but until the residents of each community verbalize their outrage directly to the individuals who don?t care about others, certain individuals will continue to perpetuate this behavior.

This encompasses not only dog owners, but also those that steal flowers in our parks that have been donated by volunteers, parents who let their children destroy public property, individuals who throw trash on the ground when there is a trash can within five feet.

Minor in the grand scheme of things ? yes, but for me- makes one place livable over another, as well as giving a sense pride in the community in which we live.

I totally agree with everything in your post except perhaps "residents of each community verbalize their outrage directly to the individuals who don?t care about [each] other". Dog poop shouldn't give anyone license to "rage" against their neighbors. Give them a poop bag as others have suggested and ask them to pick it up. Shaming the offenders is likely to work better than anger or "(out)rage".
I didn?t imply that you must express your outrage in an inappropriate manner, just that you let the people, who have no concern for your quality of life, know that their behavior is not acceptable. Not having a poop bag is no excuse, and providing one will not change the behavior.

I also did not limit saying something exclusively to dog owners?it?s parents, litterbugs, graffiti ?artists?, and thieves (flower). You may either continually complain about the situation or calmly let the individuals know that what they are doing is not proper, and why its not.

Saying something is not for everyone but I personally have too much invested in this community (and not mainly financial), not to try.

Fifty-eight posts with assumptions, innuendo, and attitude, without one person having dined at the restaurant?aint JClist great?

Four of us had dinner there this last Friday and for a first week, we were very pleased to be there. Right now the menu is limited but varied enough that most will find something to choose from. The feel of the restaurant is comfortable, well-lit, good music level, and with a welcoming staff.

The flavors of each dish was unique, with combinations of spices and sauces that were new to me but pleasurable. The food portions were small but filling. Not inexpensive, $68 per couple for an appetizer, entree?, and one dessert. It?s BYOB for now, which offsets the relatively costly food.

Minor complaints are a lack bread for the table and our wait-staff did not know who ordered what, when the food was presented. All in all, this is a great addition to Jersey City and continues to increase the choices of quality dinning?we will be back.
