Re: adult soccer leagues in JC?
Home away from home
Home away from home

Here are the options I know about:

1. Hoboken league
http://hobokenadultsoccer.com
Play in Sinatra Park in Hoboken. You have to have prove you live in Hoboken to play.

2. Grace Church
http://soccerlearningcenter.com
Tuesday and Thursday night "soccer aerobics", in a small gym.

3. JCFC who play in the Garden State league.
They practice Wednesdays in Lincoln park and welcome folks to come down and join in, but you have to be reasonably good to get in the team.

Sam, I stuck up some of your signs in Hoboken and some in Newport.

Anyone spot my signs as they cross Washington Blvd in front of Pavonia PATH station?

Annond - I agree with the thrust of that article. I posted earlier about this and how one of the unfortunate side affects of the renovation will be us losing the excellent old school Hamilton Park swings, which will undoutedly be replaced with modern swings like those in Van Vorst park. Has anyone used the swing in Van Vorst park? They are laughably pathetic.

On the subject of safety, do others share Althea's concern about the separation of children's play areas? It doesn't seem a big deal to me, you can watch the toddlers in the small area, and let the older ones do their thing next door. One of the good features of Hamilton park, which the vast majority voted to preserve in earlier ballots, is the open sight lines, so wherever the older ones run in the park you can still see them. In any case all the plans up for vote have the play areas very close to one another.

ianmac47 has summed up my problem.

The options as presented mean the only way to get a multi-sport surface is to also vote for a split and moved dog run.

It will be a terrible shame if the multi-sport area becomes collateral damage to the dog-owners wish for a large dog run.

The multisport area had widepsread support on all the previous ballots and in all the previous meetings.

Sound great, but people are saying that it is too late to change the options and these are the four we have to vote on.

It is unfortunate that the multi-use sport field option is tied to the splitting and relocation of the dog run.

I worry that option D, the only option which incorporates making one of the tennis courts into a multi-use sport area, will be voted down by dog owners opposed to the split dog run design that option D also contains.

I went to Hamilton Park Ale House for brunch on Saturday, I am not sure if it has anything to do with the new owner or not, but the breakfast was better than when I went 6 months ago.

They still have the same old menus, which is why I suspect nothing much has changed in the kitchen, but the big improvement was ...

*** NO MORE DRY BJ's "50 FOR A DOLLAR JUMBO BAG PASTRIES ***

Instead we received three nice little muffins. Yum, yum.

The food in the Ale House always used to be terrible and expensive.

Have the new owners have taken over recently? If so I will give it another try.

I second the White Star recommendation, the food there is nicer and cheaper than the Ale House was under the old owners.

Defeated 4-3 (2 absent).

For: Fulop, Flood, Vega.
Against: Brennan, Richardson, Spinello, ?.
Absent: Lipski, ?.

I showed up as promised (I'm the man on the bicycle with young daughter), there were only about ten other embankment people there. At the comparatively meaningless meeting at Grace Church a few months ago hundreds showed up. embankment.org should have mobilised and got those hundreds into the council chamber this evening.

Why did the principal of PS3 retire in the middle of the year?
Was this planned? It seems odd that it happened so suddenly with next to no notice.

Although perhaps there was notice and I just didn't notice.

Janet,

When I first joined this list 9 months ago you and Minnie posted similar claims about tress being chopped down.

As I was new to the area I went along to the presentations and worriedly rasied the subject, the reply was unequivocal and categoric, none of the large trees in Hamilton park will be chopped down.

This has been reiterated at every meeting and by every person involved in the process. Why do you persist with this baseless scaremongering?

jerseyslogan - I purchased two of your Pulaski Skyway tshirts, but upon receiving them found to my horror that the back has a geeky website address splattered across it.

I am not wearing a tshirt that says "jerseyslogans.org" on the back, so I wasted my money. The website does not show the backprint or I never would have bought.

Please remove the lame backprint, if you do I might even buy another one.

My daughter attends the free preschool program at PS3, and it is wonderful.

Prior to this school my daughter attended Beyond Basic Learning in Hoboken, a 'high end', and expensive (one of the most expensive in the area), daycare. The programme at PS3 is leagues ahead of Beyond Basic Learning. My daughter's teacher is loving and enthusiastic.

Has your friend who is leaving Jersey City, and the others on your mailing list, actually tried the public shools?

Re: Jersey City's Parks and Open Space Master Plan

We need a soccer field in Ware E.
Currently to play soccer you have to trek to Lincoln park.

The roller hockey rink in Mary Benson park and the tennis courts in Hamilton park are more frequently used for soccer than they are their intended purpose.

Please lets have a public soccer field in Ward E!

Gargoyle at Basic.

A huge wooden gargoyle leers from the side exterior wall of the building which contains Basic.

If you stand on Erie near the curb and look up over the roof of Basic you will see it on the wall behind.

Does anyone know what it is or how it got there? It is not something for Halloween, it seems to have been there for years.

Can anyone recommend a contractor to install central air conditioning (HVAC) and a new gas heating furnace in a large brownstone?

I agree that these public mettings seems informal and ad-hoc. Are T&M actually noting down the points raised during these feedback sessions, and subsequently formally incorporating or rejecting them?

How is the feedback process supposed to work?

As these tennis courts are already effectively a multi-use
sports area, I think they should be offically cristened thus.

They should put a soccer goal in one, and a volleyball net
in another so that all sports can be accomodated.

Having the two courts availble for all these different sports
is great, I don't think one should be taken away, and the
survey also didn't support removing one.

Finally the rudeness of people talking through the entire
meeting was amazing, I couldn't hear lots of what was said
due to everyone talking to their neighbours!

So Minnie was right! They are going to cut down trees.
That is absolute madness, those trees are magnificient.
We will be doing ourselves and future generations a massive disservice if we cut-down a single one of the mature trees in that park.

A new playground or dog run will need replacing in twenty years or so, if we cut down a mature tree it can never be undone. (well not for 100 years or so).

I am stunned they are even proposing it.
